Wow - gotta show jumpsuits some love as well as dresses and skirts - especially when they’re as showstopping as this one. It’s in the sale and sizes are going fast so get in there quick! If your size is already sold out, try Collectif’s handy ‘It has pockets!’ page to see what other lovelies they have on offer.
By Collectif [UK, global shipping (except USA and Canada where you’ll have to get it direct from Modcloth, UK 6-22]

Love this! Not usually a fan of shift dresses but this looks comfortable AF, with the look of separates but the ease of just chucking a dress on, win!

Just loved this little detail from the catwalk for Fashion Friday. The traditional line trotted out is that pockets can ‘ruin the line’ or drape on delicate fabrics and soft structured silhouettes, but this obviously proves it isn’t true.

For Thursday Threads, this week we’ve got a really cool pattern for a skirt with pockets, but also a gorgeous idea for making any item of clothing that little bit more special or unique - sometimes it’s all you can do to find the most basic of clothes with pockets and you miss out on the fancy details on all the other outfits. But you can add your own with only a little bit of sewing skill!
Check out this interview and instructions for the embroidery, or pick up the sewing pattern from Liesl & Co [US, digital delivery, XS-XL] or this similar one from Hawthorne Supply Co [US, digital delivery, XS-3XL]

A nice basic black skirt for a casual Saturday - I have a couple of midi versions of this skirt and wear them like 80% of the time because they’re so comfy.

Because it’s not all about skirts and dresses! Pockets are still important when lounging about and being comfy, and I’ve been whinging for a while that pyjamas marketed at women didn’t have pockets where ones for men were almost exactly the same but usually cheaper, cosier and HAVE POCKETS! (how I found out? - by buying some ‘men’s’ pyjamas: why should they get all the fun of getting to dress up as Captain America for bedtime?)
You might be thinking the same as I did - why do people even need pockets in pyjamas? I mean, it’s ridiculous, most regular daytime trousers aimed at women don’t have functional pockets but men even get them in nightwear... But since I’ve been ill the past few days and lounging around, I’ve found these snuggly woodland animal pyjama bottoms have been invaluable for being able to carry my tissues, lipsalve and phone around the house with me. I picked the red check ones to share though because they’re next on my shopping list - now I’ve found a reliable source of pyjamas with pockets, I’m not going back!

so this is what historical pockets sometimes looked like, they were little bags that tied round your waist under your outer clothes, and then skirts had slits in them to access the pockets underneath. so nice and roomy! so versatile! i'm with this poster, bring them back! it'd be a much easier way to retrofit all your clothes that don't already have pockets 😂
A Modest Proposal
Women's pants suck. Why? They have no pockets. We're required to carry bags rather than stuff things in convenient receptacles that are impossible to lose without losing the pants themselves.
This is an 18th Century pocket.
Tumblr media
A pair of pockets, to be precise.
I would like to propose that designers and sewists on this site collaborate to design a modern version that is both fashionable and comfortable, but without the unfashionableness of things like fanny packs/bum bags (which I personally love, but hey).
Just imagine having a secure, comfortable, beautiful storage mechanism. Imagine having different colors, styles, and fabrics to choose from.
Imagine fucking over the goddamn fashion industry and their outdated damsel-in-distress notions, while making our own lives THAT. MUCH. BETTER.
So, who's with me?

Because sometimes clothes HAVE pockets and yet they’re still not even functional. But we can solve that! This tutorial is really great, have any of you tried it?
Make Some Pocket Extenders for Your Pants
So I don’t know about you, but I’m often frustrated by the ridiculous smallness of girls’ pockets. At a bare minimum, I need to be able to shove my cellphone in there - come on, pants companies! So what I started doing was making myself pocket extenders. I’ve done this several times, for pants and shorts. It’s great.
I just got this pair of jeans, so I thought I’d show you how to do it. I kind of feel like it just hasn’t occurred to some of you that this is an option, so maybe now it will. All you need is your pants, some fabric (I just took a random piece from a scrap bin), a needle, and some thread (thread doesn’t even need to match the fabric since literally no one will see it).
Tumblr media
See? Ridiculous. Like, half a cellphone, or only 2.5″. Useless.
Tumblr media
So turn those inside out to expose the pockets.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Figure out how big you want your pockets to actually be. I kinda go by whatever looks like might be right. I didn’t really measure them. Fold the fabric in half, so you have a pocket, and then fold it in half again so you can have two equal ones.
Tumblr media
Try to get the edges to line up enough, pin it in place, then sew up the sides! Are your stitches crazy uneven and wonky looking? Doesn’t matter; nobody’s going to see it. These are in the inside of your pants. The only thing that matters is that it holds up. So I double-did the corners, since those tend to get the most stress.
Tumblr media
Cut open the bottom of the existing pockets.
Tumblr media
Pin it in place, then sew around, joining the new pocket to the old pocket. I did this by keeping my hand on the inside, so I wouldn’t accidentally sew through the other side. Again, I reinforced the corners, and didn’t worry about what it actually looks like. Then I turned it in side out to make sure the inside was all joined properly.
Tumblr media
Yay all done! And the pockets are so much bigger now!
Tumblr media
Whaaaat I can fit my entire phone and entire hand and probably something else now, are girls’ pockets even allowed to do that?! Heck yeah they are.

It's Wednesday so here's a skirt that might be appropriate for your workplace, but it also HAS POCKETS! I love eShakti, they put pockets on nearly everything and have a good size range, plus you can customise a lot of things to have different hem lengths etc to make it even more suitable for your particular situation.

it's absolutely freezing here today so this sweater dress looks nice and cosy, and IT HAS cute front POCKETS to keep your hands warm :) plus you can just wear it as an oversized sweater and layer up with leggings or a skirt or anything, so nice and easy to wear.
and did i mention it's only £15 and ASOS have a pre-Black Friday 25% sale on if you have a student discount code? (I use Unidays)

For Meme Monday we'll have a mix of funnies but also articles about why I think pockets genuinely are a human right, like the one above. It's an equality issue!
I may have posted this before, BUT IT’S GOING UP AGAIN!
With this lovely little addition:

*some* designers are putting pockets in their dresses, so why aren't they filtering down to mainstream fashion? if it's good enough for Captain Marvel, it's good enough for the rest of us 😂

On Thursdays we’ll be showcasing Threads, sewing patterns, tips and hacks to MAKE your own pockets and retrofit clothes you already have! Sometimes if you’re struggling to find clothes in your size or style, it’s the easiest option. (Although you could just ask!) Does anyone have the above pattern from BurdaStyle? All I can find are some similar ones:
- Skirt with Pockets (Plus Size) 02/2014 #139 [UK, digital delivery, 44-52w]
- Pocket Skirt 10/2012 [US, digital delivery, 36-44w]
