Marshadow Update! #1
I took the advice from @ask-pokemonranger-rai and ended up having a meeting with Professor Sycamore and one of the head rangers back home in Kalos, before I went back to Galar. Since the situation with this particular Marshadow is so shocking, yet exciting and it became attached to me, we decided that it would stay with me! I haven’t tried catching it for obvious reasons, but Professor Sycamore and the rangers think it’s a good idea for me to be involved with it’s rehabilitation! We don’t know where he came from originally, but what we do know is that he didn’t come from Kalos to begin with. Professor Sycamore said that he advises against capturing him, however if this Marshadow later down the line doesn’t want to leave me and is persistent on me catching it, that would be the only way it would be alright. I 100% agree with what he said because forcing mythical Pokémon to become a part of your family isn’t right at all. I never even thought about forcing it to be captured and it hurts my soul that there are trainers out there that would do something such as this. I am extremely excited about this journey with the Professor and the rangers and plan to keep everyone updated on it as well! As of right now, he gets along great with my Mimikyu and Pumpkaboo and they seem to have lots of fun together when they play! I think they can sense that he’s still nervous though (especially Pumpkaboo since she was the one who found him with me), but I can tell they want him to get better! They even make sure he eats and even leave some of their own meals for him! Right now, it’s favorite Pokepuff is my sweet kind and it loves going on walks with me and Pumpkaboo at night! I can’t wait to see what else we learn from it as well!

Hi Professor! I had a question regarding my newest Pokémon I acquired from my recent travels to the Galar region. So I’m from Kalos and my main partner from my hometown is a Pumpkaboo. Now while I was in Galar, I managed to stumble across a “Gigantamax” (I believe that’s what they call it there) Corviknight and had the chance to catch him. Now what I’ve noticed is that he doesn’t like to stay in his pokéball at all. I’ve never had this happen to me before as my Pumpkaboo isn’t really (1 of 2)
Professor Fanalia: “This tends to be a common thing amongst trainers, its suggested to be some kind of temperament thing. However some pokemon much prefer to remain outside of their sphere containment then staying in it. Take my friend Lucario for an example, he much prefers to stay by my side rather then remaining in his Pokeball. But this can be for many different reasons, aside from wanting to walk or being by your side, some Pokemon prefer the feel of freedom they get from being out of their Pokeball for the thrill of traveling and seeing and experiencing everything with you.”
“In other cases its for the fact, they hate the feel of the Pokeball itself. Much like us they can hate confinement or restriction of movement, that is why some prefer to walk/fly or ride with you, its also why some Pokemon prefer a different Pokeball. But I am not an expert in that area, so I am not sure if a different Pokeball might feel different compared to a common Pokeball.”
“So all I can suggest is, enjoy your new travelling Corviknight companion, and have fun together - there’s nothing better then experiencing everything together with someone.”

Guys...just think about this for a second...I’m literally only 5’2...and Corviknight is base 7’ tall...I feel small already around my friends, but next to my Corvi, I feel like a dang Caterpie...

That makes so much sense actually! I remember when I caught her she was alone at the time. I do believe she’s pretty average sized, but I honestly cannot be sure. I was 9 at the time and my mother helped me catch her and take care of her until I was old enough to start my journey. My mother always had some poké treats in her pocket when we went on our walks just in case and it came in handy when we found my Pumpkaboo. She was shy of course at first, but my mom told me to put a few of the treats in my hand and not to do anything that could scare her away and she came up to me slowly and sniffed the treats before she ate them. I actually thought it tickled a little bit too! When she didn’t immediately run away, my mother took my hand and held it out to the Pumpkaboo so she could sniff me and I was able to pet her! I have noticed she’s usually awake most of the night while I’m sleeping, but she usually stays near me and doesn’t wander around our house. I’ve noticed that with Corviknight, she doesn’t usually instantaneously run away from him, but more like she’s “checking him out” from afar. Thankfully he isn’t very adamant on playing with her and I think he’s just waiting for her to approach him. Which I’m so happy about. I was so nervous at first after I caught him because I know how intimidating his species is, but seeing the way he acts around her specifically is definitely reassuring. Is there a way I can reassure her and make her feel comfortable enough to say hi to him and know he isn’t interested in harming her?
Hi there! I just wanted to introduce myself to you! My name’s Tsuki and I’m from Kalos! I also wanted your opinion on how to help my partner pumpkaboo break out of her shell and be less shy. She’s always nervous in places that she doesn’t know well and hasn’t really been able to have play dates with any other Pokémon because she is so shy. She’s even scared of our newest family member, a Corviknight I caught in Galar. I just want her to make friends and be happy. ~ Trainer Tsuki
Nice to talk to you Tsuki! Glad to know your circle of friends is growing.
Now you say little Pumpkaboo is shy, and rightly so.
First thing is that Pumkaboo do tend to come in different sizes so keep that in mind.
Small, Average, Large and Super Sized, so keep that in mind.
Estimating what size it is can affect its personality a bit.
if its smaller it might be a bit more cautious and used to being unnoticed hence its shy nature.
However it's also important to note that Pumpkaboo are also Nocturnal pokemon as well, so they will be the most active and social at night, mostly with other ghost types or other nocturnal nature pokemon.
I dont often deal with the night life of pokemon unless it's an unusual problem, like once I had to stop two rival groups of Sneazel and Weavile near Lake Acuity.
They can be active during the night but they arent exclusively nocturnal, and it seemed like they were arguing over what could only be described as "Play Space"
So this was one of the rare times that we actually had to step into natural pokemon living because they were disturbing nearby pokemon and human habitats.
So with some strategic building and two days of lost sleep, we made a minimalisticly intrusive barrier that helped separate the two tribes, while still allowing access for people and pokemon. it was more of a "dont see them so they arent a problem" situation.
So one issue could simply be that your Pumpkaboo is tired, or you haven't given it a space where it can get to know anyone in an environment where it can shine.
I'd say check into these things, get to know its size, try some night activities, and ease it into meeting a pokemon it doesnt exactly have much in common with, especially a large predator like a Corviknight.
It just takes a little time.

Okay wait...I didn’t know that catching legendary Pokémon was illegal...
I have both Silvally and Zacian...and that’s only because they wouldn’t let me leave until I captured them...with Silvally (I captured him in Alola when he was still only Type Null) I wandered into a cave hoping to find a Salandit...and low and behold I ran into my now Silvally...he was (I think) hiding from something or someone but wanted to battle, so I did and when I beat him I started to go home and he legit followed me all the way home, and wouldn’t let me go into my own house until I caught him...with Zacian, I was in the Slumbering Weald (not in the beginning of my journey, but recently) looking for a Galarian Wheezing because I knew Professor Sycamore would definitely want to see it and I ran into Zacian right before I left the area. At first I was scared out of my own pants, but built up the courage to battle him (as his eyes showed he wanted me to battle him all along) and once I beat him, he stood in the way of the trail to leave and walked closer to me inch by inch before he looked down and saw my belt holding two extra balls. He leaned down and sniffed them and then nudged one that I knew was empty. I pulled it out and held it up in a way that silently asked him if that’s what he wanted and he bowed his head down and allowed me to capture him. I have NEVER had experiences like these before this so I was so shocked and confused. Professor Sycamore had already alerted everyone important in Alola about Silvally and knows I have him. I also alerted him about Zacian and he told me to bring him back to his lab when I return from Galar so we can do some research together alongside Professor Magnolia and her granddaughter Sonia. I just hope I don’t get in any legal trouble about all of this. I didn’t capture them without the Pokémon actually wanting to be captured so I don’t know. I’m going to have to call Professor Sycamore soon and ask him because now I’m nervous about this.

I’m that weird trainer who prefers to keep my Pokémon’s nicknames the same as their species name...
