Hey, I’d really like some asks please! I know it’s a pretty small AU but if you ask me about it I can tell you more about it!

So, in light of the new episodes, I might be changing up some stuff on a particular gem’s pokémon.
Alright so what happened in PokéSteeb’s version is that Jasper and him fought a battle like any other non-corrupted gem vs non-corrupted gem battle. That is, pokémon use moves on each other and the gems while the gems attack each other and the pokémon. Metagross has been constantly mega evolved without breaks for three days because apparently that’s our timeframe so they’re getting close to fainting (in the traditional sense, not the 0 hp pokémon sense), but Jasper and Steven fight, by which I mean Jasper, her Pangoro, and her Zoroark vs Steven and his barely even awake (Mega) Metagross. Fight goes as normal. Zoroark is fainted on the battlefield, and is brought back into his pokéball. Steven traps Jasper. Pangoro takes the hit for her. Jasper brings Pangoro back into his pokéball and promptly poofs, and he brings back Metagross, but if this were like the episode we wouldn’t see that.
He’s got Pangoro’s pokéball and Jasper’s gem (Zoroark’s is in her gem) in his hand in his pocket through the use of pokéballs being tiny sometimes. He sets Jasper’s gem on the edge of the bathroom sink and he lets Pangoro out into the bathtub. He starts dumping the bottles in because he’s panicking like all of us have been. Jasper comes back just as Pangoro’s turning pink and coming back, with a scar on the very light pink torso, basically right in the center. And then you’ve got Pangoro and Jasper reconnecting by, y’know, pledging their lives to poor Steven, who’s now being called Jasper’s diamond.

And Bismuth! The dark patch on Lucario is where I tried to draw his Lucarionite, but it doesn’t show up very well. She also has a Gurdurr.

And Garnet’s pokémon! Her Plusle and Minun are both pink but you can tell the two apart based on the tail, the cheeks, and how, in particular, Her Plusle has a Careful nature, while her Minun has a Bold nature.
Yes, the placement of which side of her they’re on matters.

And this is Amethyst! I figured since I have some pink and red nearby, I’d try coloring in her Zorua. I do not, however, have purple close by.

Here’s a little sketch of Pearl with her Trumbeak and Gallade. The Key Circlet goes down, and around the bottom of her gem. The stone itself is placed just under her gem, but does not lean against the gem. Her Gallade’s Galladite is in a leather-like cylindrical piece just above the hips.
Pokémon are actually a little difficult to draw in the SU style, since SU’s eyes and the emotions you see from them rely on the eyebrows, and pokémon’s eyebrow shapes tend to be kind of “>:”, you know?

A bit of timeline stuff so that if someone draws these versions, they know what to draw. This guide uses episode names as references to points in the timeline. There’s a read more because it’s got, uhh...5 paragraphs of this stuff and I don’t wanna clog up anyone’s dashboards.
Steven’s Beldum evolved into Metang during “Gem Drill” and evolved into Metagross between “Change Your Mind” and the Movie. Lion the Pyroar shows up at the normal time, in “Steven’s Lion.” Meanwhile, Cat Steven is still a normal cat (See “About the AU”)! Steven’s Cacnea was created and evolved into Cacturne during “Prickly Pair.” Pearl’s Trumbeak doesn’t want to evolve, but was a Pikipek during most of the Gem War. Her Ralts has a twin, who lives with Greg. Ralts also evolved into Kirlia during the Gem War, and evolved into Gallade during “Rose’s Scabbard.” Gallade receives a Galladite and Pearl receives a Key Circlet during “Bismuth,” but they do not wear them afterwards until “Made of Honor”.
Garnet has three pokémon; A Plusle, a Minun, and a Klink. Garnet caught her Klink during the Gem War, and evolved it into Klang after reforming during “Jail Break”. Due to how Klink works, one half of the Klink was with Ruby, and one half was with Sapphire, as Garnet caught it while fused. Amethyst found her Zorua when she emerged. She caught her Ditto between “Steven VS. Amethyst” and “Bismuth.” Speaking of Bismuth, she caught her Riolu early on in the Gem War, and had her Timburr since before the Gem War. Her Timburr evolved into Gurdurr during the Gem War, and her Riolu also evolved into Lucario, but it was later into the Gem War.
Bismuth and Rose both had a Key Stone during the Gem War, but Bismuth never got a chance to show the other gems. Rose’s Key Stone was set in a necklace, and Bismuth’s had a place in a bracelet, as well as a place in the Breaking Point. Bismuth also constructed a Key Circlet for Pearl, but didn’t give it to her because she planned to give it to her after showing Rose the Breaking Point. She had moved her Key Stone to her bracelet to have Lucario show off the Breaking Point. She does have it in the Breaking Point when she shows Steven the Breaking Point, though, because she wants to make sure he sees that you don’t have to be a Mega Evolved pokémon to use a weapon that shatters gems! :D
Peridot doesn’t evolve her Elgyem because they don’t want to evolve. And yes, Peri’s Elgyem goes by they/them pronouns. Lapis has her Lapras, Gyarados, and Carracosta when she’s pulled from the mirror, but her pokémon don’t last long in combat until her gem is healed due to being in their pokéballs when she was first poofed, and being with her in her gem when she was cracked. To put it into game terms, think of the ability Pressure. Now apply that no matter what ability the pokémon her pokémon are facing has. They struggle a bit with fighting enemies over extended periods of time. After her gem is repaired, though, her pokémon are just fine! Peridot and Lapis share a small size Pumpkaboo, who, supposedly unlike the canonical equivalent, will live forever. This is due to its ghost typing. It was created by Steven, similarly to Cacnea and the Watermelon Stevens (which are still their own species and not pokémon).
Oh, and normal humans also have pokémon too! Greg’s taking care of Rose’s Gardevoir, Roserade, and Blissey, and his Loudred’s been with him for a while. He is also assisted at the car wash by his Panpour, a more recent catch than his Loudred. Similarly, Connie has an Audino. Connie has a Key Bracelet, made by Bismuth before “Change Your Mind,” but does not have Audinite until just after the Movie.

So, I should explain how exactly fighting works in this AU.
The gems are still fighting hands-on, like in the show, but their Pokémon help them fight. Sometimes the gems will call out moves, but that’s treated similarly to how they might plan out their attacks. For example, while Steven and Peridot fight (or, I suppose, outsmart) the corrupted gem in Kindergarten Kid, Elgyem helps Peridot by getting things into place, but because Peridot and Elgyem don’t fight against other gems often, Elgyem is more of a support pokémon.
Fights against corrupted gems are a bit like Horde Battles, except that the Crystal Gems fight alongside their Pokémon while a Corrupted Gem fights alongside their “pack,” which is made up of the descendants of their pokémon from before they were corrupted. Meanwhile, a battle between two non-corrupted gems is closer to a trainer battle, but the gems still fight alongside their pokémon. This can be rather interesting, as you wouldn’t expect a Pangoro to be beat by a Plusle and a Minun, however pink they may be, but that’s just what happens.

So here’s my current icon! Pokémon AU Steven (or “PokéSteeb” as I’ve been calling him) with his Metagross! The compressed one and the original, for comparison.

Hello everyone! I figured I should make an actual blog for this AU I’ve been thinking about. It’s mostly going to be text stuff, I think. I’ll have some pictures, though. Later. When I make proper references for everyone.
