Poland Street needs your love! Benefit Dance Party Saturday 12/30
Tumblr media
Poland Street has been weathering some changes in the past year, which has caused our event calendar to suffer, but we're not content to let one of Portland's few underground venues to just die. Not with the rich history we've already built here. However, there are some facts of maintaining a space that are causing a financial burden we can't seem to manage on our own. It's for these reasons, we're throwing a Dance Party and asking for donations. Poland Street needs you to come and have fun!                                                                                                                                                                                                                              SATURDAY, DECEMBER 30, 2017 We can all agree it's been a brutal year with too many bummers, so come and celebrate the end of 2017! Saturday, December 30th, we're opening our beloved space once again and putting on a dance party with a super eclectic mix! This dance is focusing on fun, positivity, and uplifting messages. We're still here after this cruel year, so let's celebrate and set the tone for 2018! RSVP/MORE INFO HERE: https://www.facebook.com/events/1898493447130186/ This Dance Party is at 26 Poland Street, Portland Maine, Saturday, December 30th, starting at 7pm sharp and ends definitively at 10pm. No cause for showing up "fashionably" late! Suggested Donation: $5-15 ... We really need your help to keep the space running... Poland Street could seriously close forever.... DJ Joss, WMPG veteran and regular of Poland Street events for what seems like more than five years, will be providing the dance mix! This is Joss's second time DJing here, having also contributed to the January 13th show this year, which garnered rave reviews from all in attendance! The Facebook page for Joss's WMPG show, The Dollar Grab Bag, can give you some idea of Joss's sensibility, if you like! https://www.facebook.com/TheDollarGrabBag/                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Stay in touch further by... FEBRUARY 12 - BENEFIT SHOW
We need a new sound system! Did you know that Poland Street as a house has never actually owned its own PA? It just has a long history of borrowing them from former roommates. Well, it's come to pass that we just need to own one of our very own, so we're raising money! Help keep shows at Poland Street alive, because we honestly probably won't have them anymore if we don't have a communal PA. Everyone playing this show is a current Poland Street resident.
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Hey everyone!  So, we've got a totally sweet show coming up for you today (Monday 10/12) (I know, we've been totally slaying the Monday shows lately!).  We have some of the sweetest kids in North America comin' at you, and if you like rabbits (who doesn't like rabbits) you should come!
TOM KOVACEVIC - You might know him from the bands Olas, Fire on Fire, or Cerberus Shoal - this show he'll be performing solo, playing a fretless arabic ancestor to the guitar and lute known as an oud. https://tomkovacevic.bandcamp.com/ CUD EASTBOUND - Coming all the way from a small town in the Yukon Territories, Cud plays extremely sensitive folk music on the banjo and guitar - maybe you'd like his music if you like Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, Bright Eyes, Paul Baribeau or Fall of Efrafa. https://cudeast.bandcamp.com/ DREAMPIPE VERMIN - Also hailing from the Yukon, Dreampipe Vermin is gonna tug on your heartstrings and jostle your nostalgia in the ways that only a scrappy, ragtag & totally fun sweethearted folk duo can do! https://dreampipevermin.bandcamp.com/ EDEN - Don't miss the beautiful sounds of Eden's electric guitar, voice and loop pedal! https://soundcloud.com/edensweets ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ $3-$12 suggested donation for the touring acts - they're coming all the way from the YUKON TERRITORY - which, just to remind you, is 3000 miles west and 2000 miles north of here. It's ridiculously far away. DOORS OPEN AT 7:00PM // FIRST BAND ON AT 7:45 because we want the show to END BY 10PM. MORE INFO/RSVP HERE:  https://www.facebook.com/events/833530240099168/

WORRIERS (NY) play killer melodic pop punk, fronted by Lauren Denitzio of The Measure and featuring Mikey Erg of the Ergs on drums. Their new album, coming out of Don Giovanni Records (Screaming Females, Jeffrey Lewis, Downtown Boys) was produced by Laura Jane Grace of Against Me!. It's pretty unusual that they're playing a house show, and are almost definitely gonna be playing a big venue next time they roll through town, so make sure not to miss this! Read reviews of their new album here: http://www.npr.org/2015/07/29/425893135/first-listen-worriers-imaginary-life http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/17525-worriers-they-them-theirs/ http://worriers.bandcamp.com/ DIVA CUP is the new project from Cassandra (who you've probably seen perform in the all-ladies choir Altar Boys) and Pete & Elliot (who you've probably seen perform in Butcher Boy). It's garagey, indie-y, rock and/or roll-y, it's real swell. They recently played their first show at Poland Street with Tensor, and they SLAYED it. If you didn't see them last time, catch them now! PHALLUS UBER ALLES - New additions to the Portland, ME scene, these three make super hectic digital hardcore! https://soundcloud.com/phallusuberalles/sets/les-femmes-de-la-guerre-ep ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

CHATTERBOX & THE LATTER DAY SATANISTS - All the way from Boulder, Colorado, Chatterbox is one of the most exciting and intense bands in the punk/folk community these days.  Normally featuring a cacaphonous seven members, they have pared themselves down to a far more reasonable 3-piece folk band.  (Recommended for fans of Mischief Brew, Arroyo Deathmatch, Ramshackle Glory?) https://chatterboxandthelatterdaysatanists.bandcamp.com/album/talk-is-cheap-guns-are-expensive MORGAN LINDENSCHMIDT - Fairly new to the Maine music scene, Morgan Lindenschmidt came out of left field playing incredible and refreshingly unique songs.  With her music, you'll hear explorations into dissonance, rapid-fire tempo and time changes - with a distinctive crooning voice, like that of a jazz singer or beat poet.   https://morganlindenschmidt.bandcamp.com/ JAGWEED - He's probably hassled you for money in the vestibule of Poland Street, he's probably totally not recognized you when you've said hi to him on the street, he's probably said something stupid around you and immediately regretted it - this time your friend Maxwell will be playing a mix of original and 80+ year-old songs on a plectrum banjo, while playing practically a whole drumkit with his feet.  That's right folks, he's a veritable on-human-band!   MARISSA SENDEJAS - Also hailing from Boulder, Colorado, Marissa plays eclectic, tuneful folk music with honest, confrontational, and inspiring tones. https://youtu.be/fHoqFGVPDQo JC & THE PENNIES - Self-proclaimed "nihilistic folk music" performed on the banjo. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
