Hi there everyone! What would you recommend to someone who wanted to get into the teaching side of pole? Pole has absolutely changed my life, and I really want to help share my love of it with the world. I've heard really mixed reviews about pole certifications, and would hate to save up the money for one, only to later find out it was a waste of time. Obviously there's no one way to transition from teacher to student, but what does everyone recommend?
Certifications with reputable studios/dancers are good but many people out there who aren't certified teach. Studios often end up asking current students to become teachers because they are familiar with that person and they are easier to train as they've experienced the studio's style of teaching for awhile. Some studios may post online or at the location that they are looking for more teachers and you will most likely be asked to demonstrate your skill level and teach a mock class.I would say the biggest part of being a teacher is not only being able to break down a move so the most inexperienced of dancers can understand it but also being able to help dancers make adjustments to getting in/out of a certain move to work with their body. You will encounter people of all shapes, sizes, strengths, and flexibility levels and you'll need to be able to help them figure out how to train for a move and keep them encouraged if it is taking them awhile. If you have a pole at home, it's great practice to teach friends.

You know, I often hear of girls who pole dance in different countries mention that one must be at least 16 years old to attend classes and then  only with a parent's permission. Do you think this is fair? Should there be a minimum age and if so, why? Before you decide, watch this beautiful dancer, who is only 10 years old.
I'm interested to see what you all think, as there is usually a lot of controversy concerning this topic.

Studio Name: Bue Firmament Holistic Center
Location: Rockville Centre, NY.
Star Rating: 3/5
I first found this studio through a Groupon deal online, so I immediately bought 5 classes. I had never taken a pole class before and was very nervous upon arriving. Their (only) pole instructor was absolutely amazing! She was so kind and patient and really made class such an enjoyment. As for the classes themselves, the studio was not specifically for pole, so only 3 classes per week are offered (only 2 are for beginners), making it a little difficult for those with a busy schedule to keep up. On top of that, there were only 4 poles, meaning only 8 people could sign up per class. In addition, they did not offer memberships or allow customers to use poles for practice when not in use.

I'm going to Florence, Italy for the year. Do you have any advice on how to get involved with pole studios over there? I'm from America so I don't speak Italian :/
My friend Amanda Rose trained and taught at the Milan Pole Dance studio and she had a blast! As far as I know, she doesn't speak much Italian if any. I'm sure there will be at least a few English speakers at each studio :) Just google pole dance studios in Italy and find out which ones are closest to where you will be. If the websites are all in Italian, use a translator app to find the contact us section and send them an email, inquiring if any of the teachers at the studio speak English.

to that anon. one of the girls in one of my classes is obese, and she's the best in the class, and one of the best in the studio. she can do an amazing janeiro (which after 9 months i'm still struggling with) and she's fun and enthusiastic and determined. her tricks are all really neat and amazing and she makes a lot of people envious of her skills. and it didn't even take her that long to achieve this. she's been poling for a year and she's at an advanced level already!!!!
^ determination is so much more important in pole than anything else. well done to her!

Can bigger girls do pole too? I'm nervous to sign up for classes. I've only just started trying to get in shape and what not but I feel like pole would be perfect for me.
I get asked this a lot - of COURSE they can! Half of the ladies I teach are on the larger side and they're all amazing and achieve something new each week. I've posted videos previously of some kick ass larger women pole dancing. The fact of the matter is that almost everyone can pole dance, even those with disabilities.
It all about the muscle to weight ratio. If you're larger you need more muscle to lift your body so progress will be slower than those who are smaller - however, you can still achieve the same spins, moves and tricks as long as you stick at it.
My most important tips for anyone starting pole is to have no expectations about what you'll achieve, do not compare yourself to ANYONE and just enjoy it! It's a journey, an amazing one at that.
xoxo

So I don't really freestyle that often, or hardly at all. And I'm not a huge fan of this, but have a video of me anyways because I'm trying to get out of my comfort zone!

Hey! I really love this blog, you guys are all so amazing... *sigh* I just did my first proper inverted crucifix yesterday, and have just started planning my routine for our showcase in November. I'm using the theme from Flashdance - the theme of the night is Movies... ;) -Bea
Thank you for your ask! We love hearing from our followers. Congratulations on your first crucifix. I am sure you're going to be amazing in November. You should get someone to film it and share it with us! xo

Youtube user - Lindsay Green dancing to The Weekend - Wicked Games
This song is amazing to pole to, so much fun. This video and Dirty Birdys are the best two I have seen to this song. She is so graceful and beautiful.
FYI if you have NEVER heard this song, it’s NSFW since it does drop the F bomb.
Enjoy the video!!
