D@MN. Friday is here.
What’s up Portland!?! Here we are, end of the week; end of the road. The anticipation is over. Kendrick Lamar, seven time Grammy Award winner, just released his sixth album “DAMN.” From the moment you get your hands on that CD, scroll down to the new music, or that first flip of fresh vinyl, your chest tells you that you’ve just witnessed a celebrity. Not just any celebrity, one that’s here to stay, a legend. Some advice, “... Stay humble. Sit down.” because Lamar isn’t talking to us anymore, he’s all CAPS! From the album “Overly Dedicated” to “DAMN” and everything inbetween, Kendrick Lamar has always been talking to us through our headphones. This album is no different, and Kendrick is making sure we listen loud and clear and open our eyes to the world we have become so numb to. Strong lyrics paired with a strong steady beat allow for little margin for error by Kendrick. With no pillars of distortions to hide behind (as in “FEEL.” among other songs) Kendrick Lamar is left raw and exposed and he doesn’t back down, holding his ground strong. If you’re looking to venture into a new genre, or if rap is your comfort zone, this album will not disappoint. Expertly woven, poetic lyrics never go out of style in the rap field, and that’s what Lamar delivers! Other than the infamous Coachella (April 2017) going on right now, no real set tour dates for Kendrick just yet so we will all have to wait on that. If you haven’t checked it out already, the music video for “HUMBLE.” is two weeks old already and is definitely worth a solid watch. From my town to your town and all the other ones around, this was Portland Tuner with your weekly new music.

NEW MUSIC!
Good afternoon all you Portland Tuners! It’s great to see you up and at em’ on this, what looks to be, a beautiful start to the week. So as we know Friday has come and gone, and you’re on the hunt for new music. I hope to be regularly posting on Friday’s for the new album (or single) of the week review. Seeing as I am still getting settled into the cockpit of this new ship I decided to surprise you with a Tuesday review. Cold War Kids come bearing a new fruit to add to their collection. “LA DIVINE” is the first album in three years, after a 10 year gap from their hit album “Robbers & Cowards” that put them on the alternative map. This album doesn’t disappoint if you miss the lovely tunneling echos and poetic storytelling that makes the Cold War Kids. Many of the songs have much support from background singers as to make you feel anchored and un-alone, something we all need now more than ever. The lyrics follow suit as well with that longing search for that one person to help us in our time of need. Nathan Willett sounds more clear now more than ever even though most of this members ,besides Matt Maust (Bass), have changed throughout the years. If you’re looking to see them in person, closest venue is at the Blues Hills Bank Pavilion in Boston, MA on 9/14/17. If you're not able to check them out in person they have a great new music video to pair with the new album release that I will post separately so check it out! I appreciate you tuning in this week and hope to see you again this Friday. Have a great Tuesday all you Portland Tuners!
