The Meeting Friday night, a generous London based Packaging Design firm threw a leaving party for me. I was off on a months trip around Europe, then back to Australia to my fiancé. It moved from their offices to an Italian Restaurant just off Oxford Street for dinner and a dance downstairs in their small club. My sister, Christine, the “party sister”, arrived the day before from Australia and was invited to join us. Champagne was flowing freely, we were happy and dancing. Christine socially included a couple of guys to join us whilst on the dance floor. That was it! A lightning bolt of love struck me when our eyes met. A good looking blond and blue eyed European man in a chambray shirt, blue jeans and cravat. His moves on the dance floor were unique and I was enraptured. I instantly saw his core personality being a gentle, kind, ambitious, generous and loving man, just in his moves! My soul mate. The weekend together was splendidly wonderful. Regardless of our lack of common language it seemed we just understood each other completely. Needless to say, this was and remains the only time I have felt this way. The dilemma began...Do I stay or do I go... I returned from my fantastic trip, broke off my engagement and his heart, cancelled my ticket to Australia, and decided to remain in london. The mere fact I was taken with another man clearly illustrated I should not be rushing into any commitment. All I had was his phone number, landline only in those days. When I rang, his landlord, Dennis, gave me the third degree...what was his last name? ...where does he work? Answers that were absent from my knowledge. Dennis, who was enjoying this awkwardness, finally said “you must be the Australian girl with long legs” and roared with laughter. Little did I know at the time, our meeting nearly did not happen. Michael worked with a local five star deluxe hotel close by, and had performed at a charity that day. He was returning to the club for one last dance. Initially being turned away at the door, walked away with his colleague only to be chased by the doorman and invited to return to the club to enjoy the last of the evening. Finding Solutions... We are all capable of complaining about something. How do we stop ourselves from complaining and start finding solutions? In order to change our behaviour into a more positive demeanor, we need to make a conscious decision to do so. Perhaps instead of complaining we could start thinking of a solution so this issue of complaint is resolved. Make a realistic plan and put it into action. Then employ your self discipline to achieve your goal.
