15 Unknown Facts About Lord Hanuman, The Symbol Of Strength And Energy
Lord Hanuman is one of the most worshiped deities in the Hindu religion. The Lord is celebrated for his courage, strength, and the divinity of his protection. His legendary tales are well documented in Ramayana and were one of the central roles in this mythology. A loyal disciple of Shree Ram, Our Bajrangbali was a naughty one as a child and was blessed by the Gods to possess supreme powers. Our knowledge of Hanuman comes from most of the retellings of Ramayana or modern TV series but His godliness is mentioned in other texts including Puranas, Jain texts, the Mahabharata, and so on.
Tumblr media
A presence so extraordinary has a life that is much more astonishing, and so we bring you some lesser-known interesting facts from the life of Lord Hanuman.
1. Pawanputra Hanuman was an incarnation of Lord Shiva
There are various versions of the story and various dialogues but the birth of Hanuman was enabled by a curse on a celestial angle (Apsara), a boon from Lord Shiva, and the God of wind, Vayu. The son of Kesari and Anjana, Hanuman is known as Pawanputra (Son of Wind). The deed was fulfilled by Vayu but the course of nature had set for Shiva to be a loyal companion to Rama during his rule. Thus, Hanuman was born.
2. Hanuman was not Lord’s birth name
The name was coined to describe the disfigurement of the Lord’s jaw after he was struck by Indra’s thunderbolt. As a child named Maruti, the Lord miss took Sun to be a ripe fruit in his hunger and went with all his vigor to grab it. This angered Indra who stuck the child with a Lighting bolt. This left the child with an injured cheek and jaw.
Hanuman is derived from the word Hanumat of Sanskrit. Hanumat is the joining of a word and a suffix. Hanu or Hanoo means Jaw and Mat becomes the suffix. So, Hanuman means one who has swollen or disfigured jaw.
3. Lord Hanuman had five bothers
Brahmanda Purana verses 223 – 227 states that Anjana and Kesari had in total five sons of which Hanuman was the eldest. The names of Lord Hanuman’s siblings in order of their birth are Matiman, Srutiman, Ketuman, and Dhritman.
In the Mahabharata period, Pandu and Kunti's son Bhima have also been called the brother of Hanuman Ji.
4. The color Red/ Orange of the Lord’s idol
Once Lord Hanuman observed Sita adorning vermilion on her forehead and asked why is this part of her daily rituals. For which Sita explained that Sindoor (vermilion) is a representative of Shree Ram’s long life, love, and respect for her husband. The adherent devotion towards Shree Ram propelled Lord Hanuman to cover his body completely with Sindoor. Impressed with the deed of Hanuman Lord Rama granted a boon that those who will worship Hanuman with sindoor in the future would see all their difficulties go away. And this is why temples represent Lord Hanuman’s Idol in Vermilion color.
5. The Brahmachari Lord had a son Makardhwaja
Lord Hanuman was a Brahmachari (celibate) and yet he fathered a son named Makardhwaja. It is said that after burning Lanka with his fire-lit tail he dipped his tail in the sea to cool off. There the sweat from his body was ingested by a fish and Makardhwaja was conceived.
6. Lord Hanuman’s presence in the Kurukshetra war
Lord Hanuman was present in form of his featured flag on the chariot of Arjuna as he led into the battlefield of Kurukshetra. This was done as a reverence to Lord Krishna who is one among the Dasha Avtaar of God Vishnu, same as Shree Ram. Lord Hanuman’s presence granted the chariot and its inmates with protection and as soon as the battle was won, and Hanuman regained its original form, the empty chariot reduced to ashes.
7. Lord Hanuman first hand heard the preaching’s of Bhagavad Gita
As the Lord was harboring on top of Arjuna’s chariot in form of the flag, it is believed that he was among the only four who first hand heard Bhagavad Gita preached by Lord Krishna. The other three being Arjuna, Sanjaya and Barbarik.
8. Lord Hanuma’s scripture of Ramayana
It is said that Lord Hanuman too documented his version of Ramayana on the walls of the cave he resided in. And his version of the story was much more splendid and glorious than that of Valmiki’s. As Lord Hanuman scripted it just to relive the events and remember his Shree Ram, he discarded his version to aid Valmiki’s poem of Ramayana.
9. Panchamukhi Hanuman
It is said that Lord Hanuman took the form of Panchamukhi (The Five-Headed) to kill the demon king of Patala (netherworld) who had kidnapped Rama and Lakshmana. On the mission of rescuing them, Hanuman learned that to kill Ahiravana you need to extinguish five candles, in which the demon king’s soul resides, at the same time. So, Lord Hanuman morphed into Five heads(go through the above-inserted image):
• In center was Hanuman. • In south Narasimha, a lion’s visage • In west Ahiravana, an eagle’s head (Garuda) • In north Varaha, head of a boar. • Facing the sky was the Hayagriva, head of a horse.
10. Lord Hanuman has 108 names in Sanskrit
The Ashtottara Shatanamavali (collective names) of Lord Hanuman has 108 names in Sanskrit, including Anjaneya, Hanumanta, Mahavira, and so on.
11. Lord Hanuman is immortal
In Hindu texts, there is mention of eight Chiranjivis (immortal beings) and Lord Hanuman is one of them. It is said that he will walk this earth chanting Shree Ram’s name and stories until the end of Kaliyuga.
There are some notable religious reformers who believe to have seen Lord Hanuman in their lifetime, including Madhvacharya (13th century CE), Tulsidas (16th century), Samarth Ramdas (17th century), Raghavendra Swami (17th century), and Swami Ramdas (20th century).
12. Lord Hanuman is viewed as a protector
Lord Hanuman was blessed by Goddess Kali to be at her dwara-paal or gate-keeper as a protector and guard. And Lord Shani blessed Lord Hanuman with a boon that any who worships Lord Hanuman would see the end of their troubles. And these two reasons stem from the belief of invoking Lord Hanuman would help fight against any sorcery.
13. Lord Hanuman the scholar
Lord Hanuman is revered for his strength and power but it’s very few know that Lord Hanuman was an erudite scholar. He received his education from the Lord Surya (Sun God). He was well versed in all the Hindu texts including Vedas, Tantra, and so on. Tantriks believe Lord Hanuman was mighty accomplished in this field as the Lord had had supremacy in eight occult powers, those being:
• Anima – The power to reduce one’s size. • Mahima – Aptitude to increase one’s size. • Laghima – The prowess to become weightless. • Garima – Ability to increase weight. • Prapti – The gift to travel anywhere and obtain anything. • Parakamya – Mastery over willpower. • Vastiva – Mastery over all creatures. • Isitva – Godliness of being able to create and destroy.
14. The Surya Namaskara (salutation to the sun), was devised by Hanuman
It is hardly unbelievable with the agility and strength Lord Hanuman poses to acknowledge the fact that the Lord was a Yogi. He was the inventor of Surya Namaskar (sun salutation) which was a way of greeting his teacher, Surya Devta. And the Lord was the first to teach Pranayama to mankind.
15. Lord Hanuman a master Singer
In the Narada Purana, Lord Hanuman is described as a master vocalist. It was a boon given to him by Narad Muni.

Ever Wondered Why Houses In Jodhpur Are Painted Blue?
One of the most beautiful cities of India, Jodhpur is also known around widely as “Gateway to Thar”. The minute you step into Jodhpur you get the feeling of time travel. It is as abraded and pure as you get to witness the Indian culture, which you are not able to see in most of the tourist places situated in Rajasthan. It is one of the second-largest cities in Rajasthan.
Tumblr media
Mehrangarh fort presents you with the top panoramic views of the blue houses. You can also have a luxurious dinner at an Indique restaurant with a beautiful look at the blue houses and the fort. Pachetia Hill sunset viewpoint also has an amazing site for you to enjoy.
Jodhpur’s one significant feature of blue-walled houses is what distinguishes it from other places. They are concealed in the streets of the old city, in the locality of Mehrangarh Fort.
There are a lot of theories about the reason why these houses are painted blue. Well, not all of the houses in Jodhpur are painted blue but only the old town area near the Mehrangarh Fort has houses painted in blue hues. Standing on the top of the Mehrangarh Fort and watching the blue-colored houses looks absolutely stunning and is a complete delight to the eyes.
1. To keep termites away
There exist few people who strongly hold the view that the blue color enables to dissuade termites. As per this theory, termites caused harm to various famous historic structures and buildings in the city. Therefore, to preserve their property from these disgusting pests, the residents of the city painted their houses with blue color. This color is a combination of two things namely copper sulfate and limestone that keeps away bugs, and along with it also delivers a soothing and calming effect.
The residents who discovered this concept strictly disregard the belief that blue is related to the Brahmins. Putting forward their views, they state that there are just as many families from other castes living in the blue-painted houses.
2. The color blue is associated with Lord Shiva
Many elder people in the town believe that the color blue is linked with Lord Shiva, who at the time of, Churning of the Ocean Milk drank the extremely dangerous poison named Halahala, to save the planet. This position eventually turned his body blue, and from that very time, his followers regard the color blue to be associated with Shiva and sacred color. Due to this theory, his innumerable followers who resided in the region painted their houses in blue colors, which eventually resulted in the naming of the city, the Blue City.
3. To keep the houses cool
One of the top reasons is the blue color helps keep the houses cool during the high-intensity heat in Rajasthan during summers which can ultimately go up to the 40s during peak summers. Few people residing in the town hold a belief that the blue color is and an excellent reflector of sun rays so daubing your house in blue color will result in their house staying cool during summer months.
4. Blue defines the social status
Another theory prevalent in this region is that the blue color is a representation of social status. This concept can be traced long back when the Hindu caste system was regarded to be the unit for deciding social status. As per the reports given by local lore, the Brahmin community covered their houses with blue color so as to distinguish themselves from the lower-caste communities, and from that time, blue is associated with the Brahmins. You may also come across the word Brahmin houses, referring to these houses.

10 Tamil Wedding Rituals That Make This Wedding Ceremony So Unique
Indian weddings, in general, are an elaborate affair. And if you happen to attend weddings taking place in various parts of the Indian subcontinent, you would know how each one is exclusive and distinctly elegant in its own way. But if one might ask what sets apart a Tamil wedding from the rest of the crowd, most people would agree that it is the value shown to rituals and traditions. Much of these customs are thousands of years old as they hinge on sacred texts (of the Vedas). Tamil weddings are grand events. Not so much in their level of extravagance as the importance that is given to elegance and simplicity. A recurring theme in a typical Kalyanam (wedding) is the presence of red and gold. Be it in the form of wedding decor, the outfits that are worn by the bride, groom, and their respective families, or the manner in which the rituals are performed – these two colors are a must.
But what are these Tamil wedding rituals all about, and why is their influence so steady and relevant? Let’s find out.
Sumangali Prarthanai: Sumangali is a term that is used to refer to married women who lead a blissful and happy married life. The Sumangali Prarthanai, therefore, is a pre-wedding ritual dedicated to Sumangalis as well as the bride-to-be in order to bless her union and pray for a congenial and flourishing life with her husband-to-be. Sumangalis are required to wear a 9-yard saree known as the Madisar at the time of the puja (prayer). The family must ensure that the number of Sumangalis invited to the wedding are always odd in number. Once the puja is complete, the women are treated to a traditional South Indian spread (all served on a banana leaf).
Tumblr media
Pallikai Thellichal: The Pallikai Thellichal is another pre-wedding ritual that is performed in order to bless the couple’s union. The custom involves gathering 9 kinds of rice grains that are mixed with curd, all placed in 7 separate earthen pots. These earthen pots are beautifully decorated (with beautiful and colorful designs, sandalwood). Once this is done, the pots are immersed in a water body so that fishes can eat from it. The ritual is a key aspect of making married life blessed and promising.
Tumblr media
Mangala Snaanam: The Mangala Snaanam, which literally means ‘purifying bath’ is a custom that takes place on the day of the wedding (at dawn). It involves the application of sacred items such as turmeric, kumkum (a red pigment), and oil on the bride as well as the groom before they go for their morning bath.
Tumblr media
Kashi Yatra: The customs and rituals in Tamil weddings are not always of a serious nature. There is a fair bit of fun and play involved. The Kashi Yatra is one such playful ritual where the groom pretends to go on a Yatra (journey ) to Kashi. He dresses up in the complete garb of someone who is about to set out on a holy pilgrimage by wearing a simple pair of slippers, carrying a walking stick and a few other bare essentials to his person. It is now the bride’s father’s job to convince the groom to stay and marry his daughter. Essentially, he must lay out the advantages of the match. The groom then agrees (but naturally) and is then ushered to the mandap.
Tumblr media
Pada Puja: The Pada Puja is another ritual that takes place on the day of the wedding. In it, the mother of the bride washes the feet of the groom in water, sandalwood essence, and kumkum. Soon after this custom has taken place, the bride is ushered into the mandap. Some traditions also involve the mother of the groom washing the feet of the groom-to-be.
Tumblr media
Kanyadanam: The Kanyadanam ritual in Tamil weddings is similar to the one performed in the northern states of India. The custom itself involves the father of the bride handing over his daughter to the groom to be united for eternity. But what set’s this ritual apart from others of this kind is the fact that the bride sits on her father’s lap before he gives her away. It symbolizes how the bride would play on her father’s lap as a child, and he took care of her then. The act itself, therefore, is a promise the father seeks from the groom that his daughter will be looked after with the same care, love, and concern.
Tumblr media
Muhurtham: The Muhurtam is perhaps the most important wedding ritual performed by the couple. It marks the beginning of the couple’s union. In the course of the custom, the groom applies kumkum/sindoor between the parting of the bride’s hair. And after that, he ties a Mangalsutra (a necklace of sorts) around the bride’s neck.
Tumblr media
Saptapadi: The Saptapadi is the ceremonial ritual familiar to most everyone who is aware of how Indian weddings function in general. During the ritual, wherein both the bride as well as the groom circle the sacred fire seven times, with each round signifying a certain promise and a vow.
Tumblr media
Sammandhi Mariyathai: One of the first few post-wedding rituals that are performed, the Sammandhi Mariathai, is one where the bride’s family and groom’s family exchange gifts and tokens of appreciation. It is at this time that she leaves her childhood home to start life with her husband.
Tumblr media
Gruhapravesam: The Gruhapravesam is another custom that is known to people from various parts of India. It happens when the bride and groom arrive at the groom’s house and the bride is welcomed by the entire family. A small aarti (puja) is performed just before the couple makes an entrance.
Tumblr media
Wrapping Up
Tamil weddings are a wholesome, mirthful, and enjoyable experience. Each of the customs and ritual performed have a poignant and purposeful meaning attached to it, making it all the more alluring and beautiful.

Insaan ki khwahishon ki koi intehaa nahin, do gaz zemeen bhi chaiy do gaz kafan ke baad
Jo ik khuda nahi milta to itna matam kyun, mujhe khud apne kadam ka nishan nahi milta
Ki hai koi haseen khata har khata ke saath, thoda sa pyaar bhi mujhe dedo saza ke saath gar dubna nhi apna muqaddar hai to suno, dubenge hum zaroor magar na- khuda ke saath
Mere dil me to hi tu hai, dil ki dawa kyaa karu. Dil bhi tu hai jaan bhi tu hai, tujhe fida kya karu
Jo wo mere na rahe mai bhi kab kisi ka raha, bichad ke unse saleeka na zindagi ka raha
Basti me apni hindu-musalmaan jo bas gye, insaan ki shaqal hm dekhne ko hm taras gye
Bahaar aaye to mera salaam keh dena, mujhe to aaj talab kr liya hai sehar ne hua hai huqm ki ‘kaifi’ ko sangsaar karo. maseeh baithe hain chupke kaha khuda jaane
Bas ek jhijak hai yahi haal-e-dil sunaane me, ki tera zikr bhi aaega is fasaane me, ishii me ishq ki keemat badal bhi sakti this jo waqt beet gya mujhko aazmaane me
Suna kro meri jaan, inse unse afsaane, sab ajnabi hai yaha kon kusko pehchaane, bahaar aaye to mera salaam keh dena, mujhe to aaj talab kr liya hai sehar ne hua hai huqm ki ‘kaifi’ ko sangsaar karo. maseeh baithe hain chupke kaha khuda jaane
Koi kehta the samundar hu mai, or meri jeb me qatra bhi nhi, khairiryat apni likha krta hu, ab to taqdeer pr khatra bhi nhi
Roz badhta hu jaha se aage phir wahi laut ke aa jaata hu, baarah todd chuka hu jin ko inhi deewaaro se takraata hu
Ab jis taraf se chahe guzar jae kaarvanv veeraniyan to sab mere dil meutar gayi
Aaj socha to aansu bhar aaye, muddatein ho gyi muskuraye, reh gyi zindagi dard banke, dard dil me chupaaye chupaaye, dil ki naazuk ragein jo tooti hain, yaad itna bhi koi na aaye
Bekaraar dil is tarah milee, jis tarah kabhi hm judaa na the, tum bho khoo gye hm bhi khoo gye, ek rahh pr chalke do kadam
ek randeen jhikhak, ek saada payaam, kaise bhoolun wo kisika salaam
Jis trha has rha hu mai pee pee ke garam ashq, u doosra hasee kaleja nikal padee
Jab bhi bhi choom leta hu in haseen aakho ko, sau chiraag andhere me jhilmilaane lgte hain, lamhe bhar ko ye duniya zulm chor deti hai, lamhe bhar ko sab patthar muskuraane lgte hain.
Tum itna jo muskuraa rhe ho, kya gam hai jisko chuppa rhe ho, aakho me nami hasi labo pr, kya haal hai kya dikha rhe ho

13 Perfect Answers By Beauty Pageant Contestants That Decided The Crown Winner
Every woman who went for the beauty pageant contest has impressed everyone with their poise, wit, intelligence, and eloquence. One of the best parts about the contest is the speeches that leave us feeling empowered. Women speaking words of wisdom that inspire a lot of other women out there is something that makes the contest even more special. While every question before the final round in the question and answer segment is a test of their intelligence, eloquence, and wit, every contest winner gave answers to questions with immense sensitivity and gracefulness that these answers have become an inspiration for people around the world.
Tumblr media
Sushmita Sen, India: She was asked why she described India as the country where ‘love is a sense of life,’ here’s how she replied,
“Well India is a country that everybody knows it has multinational people, as in people with different languages, people with different religions and we have about 168 languages and people all live together and there is to quite an extent a lot of peace which is very difficult with so many religions staying together and that is why I said love is a sense of life in India.”
Zozibini Tunzi, South Africa: She was asked what we should be teaching young girls today and her answer made her win the contest,
“I think the most important thing we should be teaching young girls, today is leadership. It is something that has been lacking in young girls and women for a very long time and not because we don’t want to, but because of what society has labeled women to be. I think we are the most powerful beings on the earth, and that we should be given every opportunity. And that is what we should be teaching young girls, to take up space. Nothing is as important as taking up space in society and cementing yourself.”
Aishwarya Rai, India: She was asked ‘What qualities should Miss World 1994 embody?’ and she gave the most impressive answer,
“The Miss Worlds that we have had up to date have been proof enough that they have had compassion. Compassion for the underprivileged, not only the people who have status and stature. Who can look beyond the barriers that man has set up for ourselves, of nationality, color, we have to look beyond that and that will make a true Miss World. A true person, a real person.”
Vanessa Ponce, Mexico: Vanessa was asked how she would use her influence to help the world. Here’s what she answered,
“I will use my position just the way I’ve been doing for the past three years. Being an example. We all can be an example of good in the world, we all have to care, we all have to love, we all have to be kind. It doesn’t cost a thing, and helping is not that hard, you just really need the will to make a change…..there’s always someone that will need what you have to offer. So, help anyone you can, guys”
Toni-Ann Singh, Jamaica: Miss Singh was asked ‘Why should you win? What’s special about you?’ She gave one of the most empowering answers that everyone loved,
“I think I represent something special, a generation of women that are pushing forward to change the world. I wouldn’t say I’m different from any other women on this stage, but I will say that my passion for women and pouring into them and making sure they have the same opportunities that I have had is something that sets me apart.”
Diana Hayden, India: Diana was asked  ‘Why do you want to become Miss World?’ And this is what she said,
“I draw inspiration from a famous writer and poet, William Butler Yeats, who once wrote – ‘With Dreams Begin Responsibility.”
Manushi Chhillar, India: Manushi Chillar was asked ‘Which profession should receive the highest salary in the world?’ Her answer won everyone’s heart,
“Since I am very close to my mother, a mother deserves the highest respect. And when you talk about salary… I don’t think it’s just about cash but I feel it’s the love and respect that you give to someone. And I think my mom has always been the biggest inspiration in my life and all mothers just sacrifice so much for their kids so the profession which deserves the highest salary, the highest respect and love should be of a mother.”
Yukta Mookhey, India: Yukta was asked what advice she had for her parents, as their daughter,
“I would tell my parents that in the values that you’ve taught me, I’ll still stand by you no matter what and hope that we can set an example for the rest of the world to see what family values and ethics are all about.”
Natalie Glevoba, Canada: Natalie was asked ‘What the biggest challenge in her life was?’ And she gave a really positive answer that made her win the crown,
“The biggest challenge in my life is always trying to stay positive. I consider myself the kind of person who always looks at the glass half full instead of half empty and even though sometimes in difficult times, it’s hard to look at it this way, I always try to maintain a positive outlook on life”
Mpule Gwelagope, Botswana: In the question and answer segment, Mpule was asked what a contestant should do if she falls pregnant while running for Miss Universe, Mpule Gwelagope said this,
“Personally, I think Miss Universe is a symbol of a woman who celebrates her femininity and I believe if she got pregnant, you should not end the title. But, I believe that as a woman she should celebrate her femininity.”
Lara Dutta, India: Lara Dutta was asked what her views were on the protests taking place at that time, ones that were claiming that beauty pageants are disrespectful towards women. And here’s what she said to win the contest,
“I think pageants like the Miss Universe pageant give us young women a platform to foray in the fields that we want to and forge ahead, be it entrepreneurship, be it the armed force, be it politics. It gives us a platform to voice our choices and opinions and makes us strong, independent that we are today.”
