Even when I'm deep in the Batman fandom, Tomb Raider still follows me 😆 (And I don't mind at all!)
And recently I bought Gotham Knights and I'm playing exclusively as Jason, meaning dual pistols 😎 Also I went through a gauntlet of deadly traps (spikes, blades, fire...) yesterday but Jason definitely isn't Lara because all the traps were one-hit kill 😭 Still, it felt pretty tombraider-y there!
Anyway, there's a video game arcade in Gotham Knights and so far I've seen only Tim playing on it, so I'd say he likes games. Also I think Tim would like TR, especially the Classics where it's more traversal and puzzle-based. Okay now I imagine him building his own TR levels in the level editor and I have a feeling they'd all get the "very hard" rating.

I wonder if Tim is a Tomb Raider fan? Because the girl in this poster looks a lot like Lara Croft.
I don't see Tim being very into video games, particularly. I think he's more of an observer, but it's cool to think that there are some games he likes as well.
I don't know, don't take me seriously, I'm just thinking.

Oh you did! :D
Haha true, but even when she stayed home as a child, she tended to wander all around and her mum couldn't keep an eye on her. So it was probably hopeless for the parents no matter where Lara was :P
Lara and Werner’s relationship
So I’ve been thinking (not for the first time) about when the picture of Lara and Werner that Lara steps on in the AoD intro was taken. Because we don’t really see them have such a good relationship well, ever. Even when Lara was a teenager (which she certainly isn’t in the photo), there wasn’t exactly friendship there, they hardly knew each other…
And that’s the other thing, it seems like they actually might not have spent much time together so why do they seem so close? And why the student/mentor relationship if it amounted to a few hours in Cambodia before all went to hell?
So, my theory (which might not be original, someone might’ve come up with it before) is that between Cambodia, VCI and Egypt, their relationship didn’t simply grow worse and worse. It was a lot of ups and downs instead, like a roller coaster. We simply don’t see the good times.
Meaning that after Cambodia (and I do hope Lara actually called for help as soon as she could after she escaped the crumbling place), maybe their relationship wasn’t very good, but Lara was still… kinder, I suppose, at that time, she could’ve felt concerned and actually contacted Werner and tried to mend their relationship. And hey, she was a kid so maybe Werner would accept it (he might just imagine she’s grovelling but whatever his imagination is, at least Lara gets what she wants… err, I mean, at least she gets her beloved teacher back).
So the student/mentor relationship actually lasts long – or more precisely makes a comeback later. But the past is still there and they are both… well, themselves, so they might have another fight soon again. Lara is only growing more confident at the stuff Werner claims to be an expert at, so the clashes might grow stronger.
Maybe there’s a longer lull as Lara’s parents don’t want her go on more such adventures, so after the next fight they don’t talk/meet until Lara is 21 and officially doing what she wants, that sounds like a good time to reconnect.
Of course that means they are now also officially rivals. Another fight can’t be far off, maybe this time over an artefact they both want, who knows.
But they reconcile again. They always seem to. They actually work together on some other finds and during one such moment of teamwork and camaraderie, the photograph is taken.
Lara steals the Iris only two years before the fateful events in Egypt, so it’s possible that after that stunt in VCI, they didn’t manage to reconcile again until… Seth.
I mean these multiple fights and reconciliations would make more sense, right? They seem to have too much of a close relationship for people who only ever spent a few hours together when one of them was a wide-eyed teenager (if brave and snarky). And not only because of the one photo, but also for Werner inviting Lara to his apartment to ask for help at all. You don’t ask that of someone who was simply your rival and mortal enemy for the past twenty years or so. And you don’t go on a wild goose chase for some artefacts just to find out who killed your rival and mortal enemy either.
Sure, people can get to know each other by being bitter rivals who run into each other, so they could know each other well without being friends, but again, then they wouldn’t care for the other so much. I mean come on, they tried to kill each other at some point or other (Werner more so, surprisingly :D ), so there must’ve been times when their relationship was better, to make them actually care. See how much Werner tried to find Lara after TR4! He wanted to help her out when the pyramid was crumbling and Lara was happy to see it was him again.
So, yeah, I think they were just their mutually incompatible selves over the years and jumped from mentor/student role to rival role to co-workers role to bitter enemies role… rinse and repeat. The whole history of their relationship could be actually really really cool!

Oh yeah, they might have met up in Switzerland or Austria during that time. I don't know how exactly Werner split his time between home and the VCI company in New York. I assume he wouldn't have to be personally there all the time. And Werner cheering Lara on when she's doing stunts on skis is such a fun image! At least she'd have someone around to appreciate it, her instructors at the finishing school probably wouldn't approve :P
And Werner looking for Lara after the plane crash... ouch, what a foreshadowing. At least it ended up well this time. Wait! Technically, as he believed she was alive after the plane crash and she really did survive, I wonder what his reaction would be when he *finally* found out that she indeed survived in Egypt as well! I actually think he might have cried a bit in relief when no-one could see him.
Haha I actually have a fanfic about Lara coming home after the plane crash, and when she realizes her parents wouldn't appreciate the adventure she just went through, she grabs a phone and calls Werner :D

Ooh I like this headcanon! His leg was injured but his hands were fine, he could probably still play - or perhaps compose.
Werner von Croy has a Ph.D. in musicology.
This pretty much asks for using it in a fic but I don’t know shit about music.
Why wasn’t it used in the games. Music themed puzzles in his apartment or something…
So I’d assume he could play… maybe many instruments… I hope he and Lara found a moment in their lives to play as a duet. For one timeless moment, no rivalry, no bad blood, just music.

My biggest tip for fanfic writers is this: if you get a character's mannerisms and speech pattern down, you can make them do pretty much whatever you want and it'll feel in character.
Logic: Characters, just like real people, are mallable. There is typically very little that's so truly, heinously out of character that you absolutely cannot make it work under any circumstance. In addition, most fans are also willing to accept characterization stretches if it makes the fic work. Yeah, we all know the villain and the hero wouldn't cuddle for warmth in canon. But if they did do that, how would they do it?
What counts is often not so much 'would the character do this?' and more 'if the character did do this, how would they do it?' If you get 'how' part right, your readers will probably be willing to buy the rest, because it will still feel like their favourite character. But if it doesn't feel like the character anymore, why are they even reading the fic?
Worry less about whether a character would do something, and more about how they'd sound while doing it.

A quick drawing of Morgau. But this time... I finally made her smile!
As you can see, I pulled out all the stops to achieve it: I gave her a bunny. You can't be angry with a bunny in your arms😊
