my dear siblings in arms last night we gained an unlikely but welcome ally for the mitch marner defense squad

he showed up in a cloud of mist then leapt into hand-in-hand combat vs. the leafs uncles who want to do a variety of things to mitch, ranging from cyberbullying him out of town to "healthy scratch[ing] him for 2 months so he wants to leave" (an actual idea someone thought to post publicly).

some additional observations:

if u look at the timestamps for these he was fully in the trenches battling from 3pm-1am.

his calm replies make the uncles look even more obtusely deranged than they already are

he may be doing this with the ulterior motive of trying to get mitch on the penguins and honestly....let's fuckin go

you ever think about how patrick marleau constantly told auston matthews, the boy from the desert who by no means should have been meant for hockey but is, and mitch marner, the boy that was born and bred into hockey and still has people breathing down his neck to be better, to never forget how good they are. to never forget how great they’ll be. how he said that he believes that they’ll be the two to bring the cup back home to toronto. and when they do he’s going to think about playing mini sticks with them in his basement and eating dinner at his table. how he thanked them for welcoming him into THEIR family in toronto. how watching them play and seeing their love for the game made him fall in love with hockey again. you ever think about the impact that man had on them because i do almost daily.

if i had the animating prowess i'd animate every john tavares media availability but replace him with kermit

no one is using instagtam like trevor zegras like he gets it. the narratives the metaphors the intention ohhhh. posting the grid mostly silly photos with his boys, humanizing himself and the guys, showing that’s he’s essential to them as a person, in and out of the room. then following up a day later with game day photos that include him alone with his reflection, heading off to whatever battle he has to face that day. another one with everyone blurred out. it’s him alone of the ice and the mostly empty crowds. ending with a photo of him smiling, happy in the arms of the teams top goal scorer. essential to the fabric of the team. to his friends and all the lives he touches. you can paint whatever picture you want but at the end of the day he’s going kicking and screaming from Anaheim. It was promised to him once and by god it will be his again

was going through my old wips for writing inspo and stumbled across this isolated scene from a fic with a premise i really enjoy but haven't ever elaborated upon for some reason...posting here bc i actually kinda like this scene (?) and also bc I'm hoping posting it will motivate me to work on this and my other mattdrai fic languishing from neglect
