When I have a free Saturday or Sunday, I try to get a practice in downtown. It’s a hike, but @flowyogacenter is worth it (full disclosure: I normally bike but with this heat today, I drove my car 🥵). The creativity in the classes I’ve attended is so inspiring—I always wish I had a notebook to jot down pose variations and sequences. Happy International Day is Yoga!!! Although I wasn’t able to squeeze in a yoga practice, I did have the humbling opportunity to guide 27 others through a vinyasa class. Three years ago today I taught my first-ever yoga class and I was SO FREAKING NERVOUS!! That day, I would have never believed it if you told me that I’d eventually be teaching four classes a week—and I would have been even MORE surprised to learn that my nerves have completely disappeared. There are few things I love more than teaching yoga and I hope it shows in my classes. The first yoga spot I hit up in #Austin was @practiceyogaaustin. I really enjoyed their colorful space—the vinyasa class was nice but some of the cues didn’t resonate with me. Playing a little catch up here...on my last day in #Savannah a couple weeks ago, I caught a #sunsalutation class at Savannah Yoga Center. The class was too slow for me (I suspected it would be but it was the only one I could squeeze in before my flight) and I didn’t vibe with their space, but it always feels good to move. I also was annoyed that the teacher wasn’t mirroring us with her pose demos—if you teach, you likely know how important that is, since students often watch you and copy instead of listening to left/right cues. And then you’ve got a class that’s facing all differ ways. Last week during my Savannah yoga journey, I found a brand new studio called @newyoganow. I immediately fell in love with the decor of this space the second I walked in—I mean, look at that RUG!! 😍 I didn’t expect the Sunday AM Vinyasa 2 class to be heated, so I struggled through the first 20 minutes till I finally hit a groove—then it all felt lovely. The owners were super kind and the sweaty flow was just what my body needed that morning. A few weeks ago I tried out @yogafactorydc with @alexandra_dianna—we took a Vinyasa class (no Bikram for us!!). The flow was nice and the space was fine, but it wasn’t a place I’ll be dying to visit again, mostly because parking at The Wharf is expensive and I wasn’t wowed by any aspect of the studio.
