Now have the caretaker who was trying to wake them up watch helplessly until the seizure stops

writers be like, i can fix him! *gives him pneumonia* *has him lose a limb* *has him almost drowned* *has him barely avoid execution* here, fixed.

the concerned team surrounds a badly hurt whumpee after a battle. their surroundings are still horribly dangerous, so whumpee can't lose it. not now, not here, not without risking lives. but with a burn that pulses like agony, or a wound stinging with corrosive acid, or a spear impaled half through the stomach, it's all they can do to clench their fists, loosely cradle their injury, and shut their eyes tight against the pain. too loud, and the whole team is in danger.

so, with teeth bared, they haul a high pitched, keening whimper up from the back of their throat.

the sound is pleading and uneven and through their normally calm voice, horrifically out of place. it's the final straw to the team that they need to get out, and soon. because whumpee never makes that sound.

(not unless they are desperately holding back a scream.)

A character so exhausted/ill/out of it they're only able to be partially roused- still responsive enough not to be wholly unconscious but answering with only mumbles and the occasional groan to questions; eyelids that only briefly flutter open to reveal a hazy gaze beneath; able to drink and swallow but having to be coaxed through every sip; not entirely a deadweight to manipulate but able to offer only passive assistance to actually moving and unable to actively support themselves; needing to be constantly pestered and prodded while being cared for otherwise they'll slip back into a stupour.

that completely limp sprawl a character does, head tipped back or over someone’s arm, limbs out at odd angles. when they’re sick and finally pass out. when they couldn’t take another step and just stayed where they fell, gone to the world. when they’re knocked out. the vulnerability of that deep, deep lights out moment where they’re just 100% dead weight.

When the unflappable character sees someone they care about in danger and the mask slips, it's great.

But when the unflappable character sees someone they care about in danger, and the mask DOESN'T slip.

Because they understand they need to be calm and unflappable now more than ever; if it protects them, it will certainly protect the person they care about. So their voice doesn't waver, their hands don't shake. They don't panic. From the outside looking in, they're as calm as could be. They handle it.

But after it's over-when the person they care about is safe, and the unflappable character is alone-they completely shatter. Gasping breaths, sobs, barely holding it together because someone they love almost DIED, and it was far, far too close for comfort.

Thinking about magic or mind/emotional control that brings out all the whumpee's worst qualities, leading them to drive away all their loved ones so they won't have anyone there for them in the vulnerable aftermath when they snap out of it and need them most 😊
