okay but there is something disquieting about this urge to cast fan writers as altruists. they give us all this for free!! well, no.
they’re sharing
it’s a key difference in perception. fic isn’t given. it’s shared. it’s part of a fandom community— in which readers are also an integral part.
it’s probably inevitable mission creep from the increasingly transactional nature of the internet and fandom-as-consumerism, which was always gonna happen after corps worked out how much bank there is to make from those weirdo fan people
but like. fandom is sharing. i think we’ve lost that somewhere.

women’s bodies weren’t “made” to do anything, nature didn’t “intend” anything, no human action is “unnatural” and there is no inherent “purpose” to a human life

Random thoughts based on my last fic
Since my fic In One Piece was set in the future of yet another alternative universe, I thought it might be fun to explore some of the things that happened in that AU earlier on.
If you haven’t read the fic, the basic premise is that both Kanan
and
Ezra were blinded at Malachor.  The prompt for it came from
@swrrequests
For a long time, even after he had been told it would be permanent, Ezra refused to believe that he wouldn’t get better.  He could still see the difference between light and dark, and he was sure that meant the damage couldn’t have been so bad.
He convinced himself that it might take a week, and then a month, and then maybe two months…
In the meantime, he refused to think of himself as ‘blind’, not even temporarily so.  Kanan was blind, he couldn’t see anything.  Ezra could.
“I can’t see very well right now,” became a kind of mantra for him.
Because he was convinced he was going to recover, he appeared much more positive than Kanan, who was trying to work out new ways to use the Force, but spending a lot of time alone as he did.
When he finally realized that he really was never going to be able to see again, Ezra fell into a depression even deeper than Kanan’s.  He turned to the Sith holocron for help, but increased power was useless without understanding how to use it.
Kanan was the one that helped to pull him through that, and doing so helped Kanan too, making him begin to reconnect with other people.
Eventually, Ezra and Kanan ended up working together to discover new ways to use the Force, and it helped them both a lot.
Ezra was more adaptable, due to his age.  Once he got over the shock and subsequent depression, he actually became much more positive than Kanan.
He never really felt like he was doing better though.
Kanan still met the Bendu, while out walking in the desert alone.  He took Ezra to meet him too, but he had disappeared by then.
Kanan passed on the Bendu’s lessons to Ezra instead, but it turned out there wasn’t really anything there that Ezra wasn’t already doing for himself.
Kanan found that a bit annoying.
Ezra was the one that first pushed to go back on missions, he felt ready much before Kanan.  Eventually, Kanan rejoined too, but it took a little longer.
Kanan was very worried the first time Ezra went on a mission without him.  Because of that, he went out again before he felt ready, feeling that he needed to protect Ezra.
Ezra didn’t need protecting.
Sabine learned a lot about good ways to describe her art, and sometimes she did it, but most times she felt like she was just driving home to them the fact that they couldn’t see it.
Sabine still hates what happened, and it bothers her that everybody else seems to have moved on.
She is half-convinced that Ezra and Kanan aren’t as okay as they are acting, because she knows that she wouldn’t be.
Ezra actually isn’t as okay as he acts.
Erza never told anybody, but in a way, he was secretly glad that he was hurt too; he didn’t think he’d have been able to live with the guilt if he’d escaped without a scratch when Ahsoka had died and Kanan had been blinded.
Kanan knew he felt that way despite him never saying, and did everything he could to convince Ezra it wasn’t his fault.
He never succeeded, Ezra still blames himself
Kanan was the first one to make a blind joke.  The whole team was there, and Ezra was the only one that laughed.
He didn’t actually find it funny, he wasn’t ready to.  He just felt bad about the awkward silence that had followed it.
In retrospect though, he realized it was funny and the two of them decided between them to keep making jokes until somebody else laughed.  Zeb was the first one that did.
Zeb makes jokes now too.
In fact, Sabine is the only one that doesn’t.
Maul felt terrible about what happened to his apprentice. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise though, the anger in his apprentice had grown since he had seen him last, they could use that.
He was also pleased to discover that his apprentice didn’t blame Maul; he had taken the blame for himself.
The Jedi did blame Maul though, but he was okay with that.
Ezra can always still see in his dreams, he has never had one where he can’t.
For a long time, he used to lay in bed not wanting to open his eyes after he woke up, because he wanted to hang on to the images.
He still does it sometimes.  He is disappointed every time he wakes up.
He has never mentioned it to anybody, not even Kanan.
Kanan’s dreams vary between sighted and not, and sometimes a confusing mixture of the two.
They actually did once have that ‘who has it worse’ argument that Sabine thought they wouldn’t.
They both think they won.
Kanan actually won.
Ezra enjoys tricking people he had just met into thinking he can see; he likes to see how long he can go before they work it out.
His record is five days.
He could have gone longer, but he realized he felt bad about lying because they seemed like a nice person.
The first time they met up with Hondo after it happened, he tried it with him.  Hondo appeared to already know.
When Maul sent Ezra visions, Ezra knew immediately that they weren’t real, because he was seeing something.
They had met Maul since Malachor, and he knew Ezra couldn’t see.
Ezra concluded that Maul was an idiot.
The thing Ezra misses the most is seeing the stars.
The thing Kanan misses most is seeing Ezra grow up.

i actually need to know people's thoughts on this because at least in my experience the answer to this has drastically changed since i was on tumblr in the 2010s and its driving me fucking insane
*im talking about fandom takes specifically. not someone being horribly evil about a real-life issue or or blatantly factually incorrect. literally just harmless fandom disagreements or differing interpretations of a text/character/etc.
