mercy seems like a long shot here, so my prayer for inauguration day 2025: may they be incompetent. may they just be really bad at implementation. may their egos choke their effectiveness. may they drown themselves week by week with infighting and selfish posturing. may they be easily distracted. may the very governors and senators and agencies and religious leaders that the new administration expects to be friendly force endless stalemates to preserve their own power. may every delay turn into a three ring blame circus so chaotic that no one remembers what they were doing. may the good and necessary parts of government be too boring to draw attention and keep running quietly in the background. may the next four years be full of sound and fury and signify nothing.

i sit down to write and suddenly i am the most distracted human alive. the chair is uncomfortable. my coffee is too hot. my playlist isn't quite the vibe. i need to research what victorian houses smelled like in 1872 for exactly 45 minutes even though my story takes place in space. and yet the moment i'm trying to fall asleep? every single sentence i've ever needed just lines up perfectly in my brain like some kind of creative parade i'll never get back.

hey, tag this with a food people get really upset about you not liking
#whipped cream in place of frosting on cakes#idk if this is a thing in the US but in Canada I swear to god every cake has whipped cream garbage instead of actual frosting#and everyone is so rude for no reason for me preferring buttercream#to the point that they complain about my birthday cake (while still eating it of course)#'This is sugar cement' then leave it for me assholes

one thing working in museum taught me is that you can have as many signs & as many explanations as you so wish people still will not read. "it's not clear at all on your website!!!" it sooo so is i promise my colleague was even kind enough to color-code the tabs & add a little image that shows what "group" means. my sister in the allmother's wide arms you might just be dumbfuck stupid. and mean and entitled as well. at your big age.
#i manage an inbox as part of my job#and i can confirm there is a depressingly large population of ppl in this world#who you can directly hand all the information they need#and they simply Will Not Bother Reading It and get mad at you bc they don't understand the thing#the amount of times I get a ''what's this about????'' reply email to the email that is literally explaining what it's about#i can't even be passive aggressive or I'll get in trouble :(

why is privacy so eroded. I get treated like a nutcase if I say no, I don't want strange companies taking pictures of my home and putting them online for maps or whatever. I don't want to be in the background of your tiktok, and I think it's weirder for you to assume I'm okay with it than it is for me to politely ask you to refilm it so my face isn't in the frame. I don't enjoy handing my employer a list of every online account I have and feeling under surveillance when I'm just shit posting or sharing pictures of my cats or garden harvest. I don't want to hear your private calls on speaker on the bus, esp when the person on the line doesn't know you're broadcasting their words to strangers. I don't want an algorithm guessing what will piss me off the most so I spend more time online, engaging with shit I don't want to see or hear out of outrage. I don't want any of this. it's total ass.

I still remember someone on reddit getting really mad because a book compared the main character slipping out of another character's grip to a satin scarf and talking about how ridiculous it was to describe her skin like a scarf. And I was just sitting there like.... you do understand the writer was not saying her skin is the texture of a scarf, right? It's imagery. Everyone has likely seen those silky, slippery scarves, the writer was creating an image in your head through evocative comparison. It is not a literal description. I am genuinely baffled and concerned this even needs to be said.
I don't know if these people realize they're advocating for boring, flat, dull and wholly literal prose when they complain about this stuff. This is just what writing is, go read a textbook if you only want plain description. Writing is an art.
I’m so sorry but in the nicest way possible do yall actually read books or just read words??? Cause I’ve been seeing that trend of people not understanding how “snarled” and “eyes darkened” and “eyes softened” etc. was used in a book and like…
Genuinely, do yall just not have imagination?? Or not understand figurative language??? Also eyes do literally darken and soften have you not lived a life??? How do you read with no imagination? Is this how you get through so many books in one month - you simply don’t take the time the understand the words as they are read?
