Between April 25 and May 2, UCLA experienced the worst episode of both anti-Semitic and anti-Palestinian/Islamophobic/racist violence in the university’s century-long history. White nationalists and neo-Nazis joined forces with Zionists (including some saying they were Israelis) to attack UCLA’s Palestine Solidarity Encampment, whose residents included a large number of Jewish students. The assailants were not affiliated with the university. One neo-Nazi was heard shouting, “we’re here to finish what Hitler started,” without any apparent protest from the self-identified Zionists. At least one person present has been identified as an associate of the Proud Boys. Using metal pipes, wooden planks, fists, knives, bricks, noise, chemical weapons, and incendiary fireworks, the mob sent at least twenty-five students to the hospital for broken bones, head trauma, and severe lacerations, while police stood by and watched for hours, electing to neither detain nor interrogate the perpetrators. No arrests took place that night. The following day, only students and faculty defending the encampment were arrested.

How intimidated do you think trans women on this site feel to even speak up about their being banned at all anymore after what the CEO did to predstrogen and the ways that staff has continued to allow administrative punishment of random trans women, who rightfully email staff asking why they got murked, who in response get an email typed by an actual human person waving their hand around going, ohh don't you recall? You were weird and sexually strange once. I know you know what you did. You've read our TOS. You know we have rules against being sexually strange. would love to be done engaging with fandom discourse, sorry. anyway, amidst it all i can't help thinking about the time tmuir got hounded off social media and relentlessly accused of pedophilia for having written fanfiction that dealt frankly with CSA, on the assumption that anyone who writes about CSA in a context which lacks sufficient intellectual gravitas (ie. fanfiction) is, you know, indulging a paraphilia correlating to their real-life desire to enact abuse. & now that she writes about it (and she is writing about it) in a way that's more oblique, and sophisticated, and discursively challenging, in a format that tends to garner a modicum more respect from boring people (trad publishing), the people who actually try to engage with what is quite blatantly on the page get accused of all sorts of shit and she herself gets written off as not herself sufficiently invested in exploring & developing particular themes such that the audience's desire to explore & develop is warranted. besides even the fact that i don't care at all what a writer thinks their work is about (a theme is a theme if i can fairly claim that it's there, and i can), it's just like—is there a way in which she or anyone can write about CSA that's going to be, i mean, believed? is there a way for her to write about CSA in fiction that will actually have these people engaging with her as anyone other than schrodinger's fetishist? lol
