This is the first chatfic I've ever written, and the first ship fic I've written in a while! (First ever under this name lol) I'm pretty happy with how the story has turned out so far! :D

Before I go to bed, here's some thoughts on my thicker than blood au! Some of these I might have said already in previous posts lol, but I'm too tired to go check

April and Raph are twins! Since they didn't know who was the eldest, they share the role, which is a lot less stressful than if it was just one of them calling the shots. It also means they have someone to confide in, since they'd both feel bad venting to their younger siblings. They have a much calmer, steadier relationship than the disaster twins

Speaking of said disaster twins! They argue about who's the oldest, but it depends on any given day which way the argument will go. Sometimes they both want to be the eldest, sometimes they don't want to be the middle child, and sometimes they want younger sibling privileges. It's usually a fight over who's oldest though. While they physically fight the most out of the bale, they're also extremely close.

Donnie still struggles with physical contact sometimes, but a bit less so. To keep warm, they kind of have to sleep in a pile, so Donnie quickly grew accustomed to that type of contact. He tolerates or enjoys contact with a lot of pressure (hugs, a hand on the shoulder,) but pokes or tickling sensations will have him snapping at the offender.

And now, briefly checking in on the few humans characters: Splinter and Cass! (April is socially a turtle- she's human by species only)

I have definitely not talked about Cassandra yet bc I just decided to add her. In this timeline, rather than joining the foot clan, Cass ended up in the Lou Jitsu dojos!

After a few years of continuing his acting career, Lou Jitsu retired. He had plenty of money, after all (it was amazing what disappearing for a few years did to your fame) and after genuinely fighting for his life for so long, choreographed fight scenes were indescribably boring.

When he retired, he needed something to occupy him, so he began actively teaching at the dojos. Cass was almost kicked from one of the dojos for nearly cracking another kids skull open, but Splinter intervened. He recognized her potential and that she just needed to be taught how to control her strength and to focus her passion into productivity rather than aggression.

Cass is a bit more mellow, though still incredibly passionate! And Splinter is much less depressed- he still misses his glory days as an actor, sometimes, but leaving that life under his own power to choose a different path made him a much happier and less stressed person. (He still struggles with flashbacks and nightmares of his time in captivity. But he considers his worst days the ones where he longs for the danger and excitement of the battle nexus)

After her big day, it's time for April to go home. She makes some promises, and tells some lies, knowing her life has changed for the better.

This is the last chapter in this particular April story! I have some ideas for continuing this au as April and the turtles grow up. The au will eventually diverge some from canon. Let me know if y'all would be interested in reading that!

Day 7 of screenshot redraws! A full week now!

This one was hard. Leo has so many details... But the hardest part was actually how many colors Leo's design has. Like I didn't realize before, but this guy has every color of the rainbow. Which is awesome and cool, until you're trying to color him in with a single shitty mechanical pencil skdkkf.

Anyways, regardless of the suffering this piece caused me, I am very proud of how Leo turned out :D

Day 6 of screenshot redraws! CJ time! :D

So this is Officially the best drawing I have ever drawn. I'm literally so happy with this I don't know what to say. I actually kind of teared up after completing this lmao.

This was actually kinda hard to redraw bc it's from the movie. The shading is a lot more complex 😔 I kind of left that alone for the most part haha.

Day 5! My favorite redraw so far, Michaelangelo!!!

A couple proportions are off, but I think I did a really good job with this one! I'm pretty sure it's the best drawing I've ever done, so really I don't have many critiques lol.

This was a hard expression to draw for some reason haha. Her face is a little idk lumpy? But otherwise I think I did pretty good! I'm pretty proud of the hand holding the weapon.

Bale is thicker than blood au: family photo!

So a little context for this I guess lol. This is a while after the bale meets Splinter, once he's earned their trust. They learn about photos for the first time! (Or relearn in April's case, though she doesn't really remember.) And, of course, they need a family photo :D

They never let the twins stand next to each other for pictures after this lmao

RIGHT! It's time for some super messy, 4am character designs for my bale is thicker than blood au.

This was gonna be current designs, but the dot eyes make them look young lol. So I guess this is when they're like ages 9-12ish!

They've all got slightly sharper teeth, and claws! April's teeth are still blunt, but her nails are pretty long. Since the only things they get are from scavenging, none of them have masks, and Donnie and April do not have glasses. It's funny- they're the two main scavengers of the bale, and yet they both have very poor eyesight!

April has a modified backpack that Donnie made her in place of a shell. Instead of a battle shell, Donnie has a sort of reinforced cape! He kind of wanted a backpack too, but he couldn't find one that would fit over his shell :(

Leo wears scarves (his favorite is his blue one), and Mikey wears whatever colorful jewelry he can find! Raph has trouble finding any clothes, especially since his shell rips them, so he cherishes the handful of hats that fit him! Donnie will sometimes wear pants, but usually doesn't bother. April wears whatever she can get her hands on! It's pretty rare to find shoes, so she takes what she can get- her current pair are mismatched, but they're her size so she doesn't care.

All of them have various scars from living on their own! Most of them are actually pretty minor wounds that just didn't heal well since they didn't know how to take care of them. But a few were pretty bad, like the cracks in Leo and Raph's shells, or some of their facial scars.

Mikey always wears fabric wraps on his right hand. He hurt it when he was younger, and it never quite healed right- the wraps help the pain! Leo and Donnie both wear foot wraps bc the ground bothers their feet after a while.

ACTUALLY!!! :D I have a real answer for this!!!

Donnie does make them both protective shells! They're not made of wood, because it's hard to find wood that's the right shape/enough wood while scavenging. But!

April's shell is a modified backpack! The shape of it is reinforced with metal rods, wires, old hangers, basically whatever Donnie could get his hands on. And lots of padding is placed on the inside to protect her back! There's still room inside, too, so she can fit anything she finds while out scavenging!

Donnie's, on the other hand, is actually more like a cape! It's reinforced in a similar way, though it lays flat across his back. It also has a sort of chain mail imitation layer to make it harder for anything to pierce it since it's directly on top of his shell!

Yessssss >:D love this au!! I have so many little ideas for bale is thicker than blood, but have yet to come up with an actual plot lmao. Hopefully rambling about it will kick start my brain!

Ever since April joined the bale, they've spoke in a mixture of English and turtle sounds! (Trying to come up with a name for that, like turtle song or turtle-speak lol).

Only Raph and April are really old enough to remember a time when April wasn't a bale member. The others are aware, but they can't even imagine April not being their sister.

Since the turtles used seasons to count time and April used years, they weren't really sure who was the oldest. Eventually, April and Raph decided to share the oldest role, so they're twins like Leo and Donnie!

Donnie learned the basics of reading from April's fairly limited schooling; from that, they were able to teach themselves and the others.

April hasn't thought of herself as a human since she was six years old. She's an adopted turtle, and is just as wary and suspicious of the humans as her brothers are- although she has an easier time sneaking around among them.

Splinter, or rather Hamato Yoshi, is the first person to find the bale. He recognizes the turtles as the ones Draxum was going to mutate with his DNA- the ones he thought were killed in the destruction of the lab. He has one startling question: are these his kids?!

If April ever decides to rejoin human society- only on a part time basis, of course, she'd never abandon her family- she would have to be legally resurrected. She's been missing for most of her life, and was declared dead after five years.
