gemma jumped at the sound of the voice. she had debated just breaking in a few times but figured she got herself into enough trouble generally that breaking and entering would only make it worse, and not in the fun way.
she looked around as if sheâd never been in a library before, even though sheâd been in a library, this one in particular, several times. âactually, yeah. my brother asked me to pick up some books he had waiting for him and i of course forgot. iâm pretty sure he will purposefully starve me if i donât bring them-â she leaned her elbows against the librarianâs desk, grinning so luna knew she was kidding. âand when i die of starvation, you can quote me on that.â
Luna hummed cheerfully as she ambled towards Brighton Instituteâs huge library. As she strolled, she gave small waves and wide smiles to students and staff members alike, hoping to radiate positivity their way. Luna noticed a patch of dead grass and took it upon herself to fix it. With a subtle gesture of her hand, life returned to the blades and their bright green hue returned. She even added a few colorful flowers to spruce up the area.
Luna quite enjoyed her job, even if being a librarian meant she had to be quiet which wasnât exactly her forte. She just liked being helpful. Her brows furrowed as she walked up to the double doors, spotting someone waiting outside. She looked down to her watch, making sure she wasnât late. Sure enough, she wasnât; in fact, she was five minutes early. âHi there,â she greeted with a soft smile as she began unlocking the doors. âI hope you havenât been waiting too long,â she held the door open, letting the other inside the library. âIs there anything in particular youâre looking for?â

Dante had some business to take care of in the main building of the institute. He was just exiting the Deanâs office when he stumbled upon Saveria and by the looks of it, she wasnât having a good start to her day. âWe do not but I figure itâs always a good time to see my face,â he responded with that English accent of his, a hint of a smirk twitching on his lips. âSomething the matter?â He asked, concerned for the woman he still had lingering feelings for. âLet me guess - Wanda burnt the coffee again? You know, we really ought to invest in an espresso maker, Ver. Iâve always said that.â
he was lucky no one was around to hear his comment about his face otherwise she wouldâve had to verbally reprimand him. but it was just her and wanda in the office today and by the lack of someone at the desk, she assumed wanda was at lunch.Â
he knew her answer before sheâd even gotten her mouth open. âwanda always burns the coffee. this time it was beyond repair.â saveria rubbed her temples. âsure d, letâs get an espresso maker which you can pay for so that when wanda inevitably ruins that too, it will be your fault and i will get to have a good laugh.â

saveria had just finished a phone conference after non-stop meetings all morning. she was going to have to teach a class in a few hours and somehow wanda had burnt the coffee beyond repair. she stood from her desk with her palm firmly pressed against the side of her forehead, as if she were trying to push her headache away. she walked out, debating whether it was easier to ask wanda exactly what the hell she thought coffee was or to just make some herself when she saw the feet of someone waiting.Â
âdid we have an appointment?â she asked without looking up to see who the feet belonged to.

[ erica cerra, female ] pretend youâre busy! here comes ( saveria russo ), the ( deputy headmistress and self defense ) teacher. the ( 33 ) year old teacher has the ability of ( power replication ), which is why ( she ) is a leader for ( all ) sections. they are pretty ( perceptive ), but also ( formidable ). when you think of them, you might see ( the sound of heels melodically hitting the ground, a glare that could kill a man, not a visible flaw in sight ). this teacher ( is a a secret spy for the revolt ), so weâll see what they will do about this soon!
saveria was younger than most when her power kicked in. sheâd been playing with two of her neighbor's kids in the street when she fell and busted her knee open. the older of the two boys helped her onto her front steps. when she reached down to pull her knee to her, it began to heal itself. when that boy, ( whoâd already gotten his power ) realized what had happened, he ran to get his parents.
the boyâs parents sat down with saveriaâs and tried to explain what had happened. misunderstanding the situation, the russos did not realize that this made saveria a mutant, thinking the boy had healed her. they thanked them and as soon as they left, told saveria she was never allowed near them again.
a few weeks later saveria was playing with the russoâs dog and got knocked over, causing her to cut her elbow. when she reached over to turn her arm for a better look, it again healed itself. this time her parents saw and realized what theyâd missed the last time. the boy hadnât healed saveria, saveria had healed saveria.
they were afraid to go near her. they started talking about how she was wrong and dangerous and probably possessed by some sort of demon. they refused to listen to her as she tried to explain that she was still the same person. overhearing the yelling, the mother of the neighbor boy whose power saveria had used, came over and attempted to calm them down. saveria was sent to her room while they talked and it ended with the neighbor driving her to stay with a mutant foster family.
saveria was always tough and guarded but this experience with her parents built a fortress around her and she refused to let anyone in. when she was brought to brighton she was asked if she wanted them to remove the memories of her parents and give her new, less painful ones. saveria said no, explaining that the pain fueled her to always prove them wrong.
while at brighton she excelled in everything she put her mind to but she didnât make a lot of friends. she spent her free time âbetteringâ herself with activities such as combat and weapon training. when it was time to graduate, she was offered a position at the school but she turned it down and decided to try going out on her own. after a few years however she changed her mind and decided to go back.
stick to veria, ver, or v if you want to live.
married dante lexington very young. Â they are no longer together.
no one can say with 100% certainty that she doesnât have eyes in the back of her head.
has replicated the power of everyone that has entered the school since she began working there.
she does not teach an average self defense class. her training has been referred to as âpreparedness on steroidsâ on more than one occasion.
iâll add to this later but his is what iâve got for now.

âyou know?â he asked furrowing his brows before realizing that they indeed have had classes together. he just never remembered her name. she was someone important, or so he thought. she at least acted like she was. âRightâŚ.. this is a small school i keep on forgetting that detail sometimes.â he said running his fingers through his now no longer slick back hair that he had worked so hard on achieving this morning. he should really just stop worrying about it because itâs not like it looks any different with his hair without the gel.Â
âuhâŚ.â his voice trailed off still not quite processing everything. this really wasnât his day man. he probably sounded dumb as a bag of bricks right about now. âright, right right right. tell me your name again? and power?â he asked flipping to a new page in his notebook skipping all his random drawings that he has done in class. god, heâd have to talk about his power with her? would there ever be a single day in his life where he didnât have to talk about it? sometimes it got annoying. âbut uhâŚ. yeah. mineâs mirror imprisonment. yâknow. to like uhâŚâŚ trap people in mirrors as long as thereâs a mirror around in the room. butâŚ.. i donât really know how to get them out after.â he said furrowing his brows once more as he heard the clock tick in his right ear and all the other students chattering in the other.Â
this should be natural for him talking about his power, right? nope, leo was worse talking about it day by day and today was exceptionally worse for him. âactuallyâŚ.â his voice trailed off again as he awkwardly crossed his arms over his chest. you could tell he was uncomfortable. âi kind of zoned out during the lecture. if you tell me what it wasâŚ. can we come up with something else to write about? i donât feel like talking about my ability today.â he said rather truthfully with a shrug as he looked over at her with a half sheepish smile.Â
gemma nodded at the statement. âit is a pretty small school. i only know most peoplesâ names because my brothers work here and because i spend a lot of time being lectured in the main office where the roster is glued to wandaâs desk.â
âiâm gemma and i have energy manipulation.â she scribbled away as he spoke, pouting when he said he didnât know how to get people out. it meant that it had happened before and judging by his sudden insistence to change topic, it hadnât ended very well.Â
âoh, yeah, sure,â she pulled her knees to her chest, resting her feet on the chair. âthere was something about designing laws to include more mutant oriented rights, comparing the pros and cons of people knowing that mutants exist. the professor didnât like my comment about whether or not capes benefited us other than for stylistic purposes,â she grinned.Â
âand then the last part was about how powers are generally passed down? like how my brothers and i all fall into the same section and our powers are related but still different? well their powers are very similar because theyâre twins but thatâs besides the point...â she trailed off. âany of those sound like something youâd be more interested in?â

Dante looked down at the student, particularly eyeing her blatant disregard for the schoolâs dress code. It wasnât something he was going to mention, though; she was of age and deserved to choose how she dressed. Besides, it was the end of the day. âMiss Holloway,â the man says with a tired sigh, stopping in his tracks in the middle of the hallway. âI believe itâs safe to assume that this someone is you, yes?â He raised a brow at her and then shook his head. âYouâre lucky the dean likes me and that youâre a decent student. Come on then, show me the damage,â he gestured in front of him, now wishing he had left his office a little sooner.
to be fair, gemma easily couldâve gone to one of her brothers, but she knew sheâd get lectured or something else she didnât particularly want to deal with. professor lexington was pretty cool and he was also a leader of her section. he also would be less likely to be accused of favoritism.Â
âthank you, thank you, thank you!â she sang, grabbing his hand and dragging him down the hall. âi even tried to put it back, but i guess iâm not really that great at it because itâs still very.... broken.â they entered the room and gemma gestured to the obvious wall, biting her lip. it looked like someone had tried to blow it up with a stick of dynamite and she knew if they couldnât get it fixed she wouldnât be able to sweet talk her way out of this one.

Noah had spotted the confrontation from across the rather empty hallway. It wouldnât be the first time he had seen her getting reprimanded by a professor, and most likely wouldnât be the last, but he decided that butting in and helping sounded like a far more interesting thing to do than make his way to class. Zipping his sweater off he disappeared in a flash, reappearing right behind Gemma and placing the sweater over her shoulders. âThat covered enough for you? I gotta warn you though, I only have so much clothing before I start showing too much,â he joked as he gestured down to his outfit.Â
gemma was sure she had the professpr she was arguing with right where she wanted them when suddenly she felt a breeze followed by something on her shoulders. she didnât have to turn around to figure out who it was. unfortunately, the sweater covered the problematic exposed parts of her body which rendered her argument moot. the professor made a comment about it being fine and she wouldnât get penalized as long as she kept it on.
as soon as the professor was out of sight, gemma pulled the sweater off and tied it around her waist. âas much as i appreciate the act of chivalry, it defeated the purpose of my argument.â she let out an over-dramatic sigh so he knew she wasnât actually upset. âi guess thereâs always next time. though i will say, i wouldâve quite enjoyed watching you show some skin too.â Â

lemcniceteaâ:
Classes had just ended and despite her better judgment, and the various times she had been told not to by faculty members, Genesis was in a rush to get to the main office, phasing through walls and corners in an attempt to get there faster. Having read through all her books, she had ordered some new ones and was anxious to pick them up. Making her way to the main hall she popped through the wall and made herself tangible, at the same time as she walked right into someone.Â
There was a clatter of books and a small squeal, but Genesis herself was gone, having instinctively jumped back and through the wall. Her head was the first to creep out, a startled expression on her face. âI-Iâm so sorry, itâs my fault, I wasnât watching where I was going. Are you okay?â She asked as she gathered up her belongings.
gemma had once again been sent to the office due to her refusal to acknowledge the schoolâs dress code. todayâs offense? shorts. her defense today was that the weather report said it would be literally 104 degrees and they were lucky she had shorts on and not a bikini. that went over about as well as any other excuse sheâd ever given.
âsame time tomorrow wanda?â she shot the old lady at the desk in the main office some finger guns which wanda didnât acknowledge. âiâll take that as a yes,â she announced, spinning out the door.Â
she was immediately met with a body slam. for a split second gemma was in shock but immediately grinned when she realized who it was. âgen, iâm fine, relax,â she chuckled. âwhere are you running off to? got a hot date?â she teased, wiggling her eyebrows.

jeremiah paused as he listened to his sister, rolling his eyes as she suggested they amend the rule. âyouâve always got to add your point of view to everything donât you gemma.â he grinned over at his little sister, a small laugh escaping his lips as she continued. he waited until she was finished to say anything. âiâm sorry sir, but i tend to agree with my sister - if weâre forcing people to stay here, they should have the freedom to dress how they like, this isnât prison.â he looked at his sister for a moment, giving her a quick nod. âat least let them have some freedom to be creative and make there life their own.â
gemma smirked as he spoke. out of both of her siblings, jeremiah was definitely more likely to take her side than silas. but at the same time, she didnât think heâd side with her on a topic like this. she couldnât help but grin when the professor sheâd been arguing with grumbled a sound of consideration and left.
as soon as he was out of earshot, gemma spun on her heel. âthis isnât a prison? freedom to be creative?â she snorted. âwell played, jer.â her brothers had two different styles of arguing. silas was more the type to do whatever it took to win, even if it meant playing dirty. jeremiah was more about destroying them with the facts. gem could say she was a combination of the two.

ofleonelâ:
it was a day where leo wasnât his usual chipper self and he found himself dazing out in class. he wasnât really sure why that was. he couldnât remember anything that could be memorable other than the fact this was really the day he figured out about his powers years ago. he never and yet right now he still canât control them at twenty one years of age. sitting in class he found himself starring at his notebook drawing mindless sketches of those little whirlpools he used to draw as a kid. hearing people chatter around him his mind brought back to the professor calling his full name. he cringed at the sound of it. âyou will be paired with this person.â the professor said blinking a bit in confusion at the other he sat down next to the person that the professor indicated and he closed his notebook. âuhâ sorry about that.â he said furrowing his brows. did he really just zone out in class? he was a fairly decent student, he took his studies seriously. he canât remember the last time he had done that if he was going to be honest. ânames leo. not leonel.â he said correcting the professor that called him by his full name even though he wasnât listening in on their conversation at the moment. âuhâŚ.. what are we doing?â he asked finally completely not hearing anything that had happened within at least the last thirty minutes.Â
when the professor announced that the project theyâd be working on was going to be a an assigned partner assignment, gemma groaned both internally and externally. pretending to be less intelligent than she actually was became much harder when she didnât know who she was working with. what if they were a terrible student? could she risk allowing herself to get a bad grade to maintain her reputation?Â
she tried her best to get the professor to give her someone she knew. but of course, being the sister of two staff members, most professors assumed that made her the best at making people feel more comfortable. when the professor first said leonel, gemma didnât know who he was talking about but when he was called over she realized who he was.
gemma nodded when he said his name was leo. âi know,â she grinned. theyâd had several classes together but he seemed quite out of it so she decided against telling him so. instead, she gestured to the board. âi think weâre supposed to be working on picking a topic that relates to what the lecture was about. i think a comparison of our abilities might be easy enough, if thatâs okay with you?âÂ

âI donât care what she is, sheâs adorable and reminds me of the simplicity of childhood,â Jennifer insisted. âWhat can I say, I like girly things and Iâm a child at heart. Usually that makes me a perfect fit for my job with the little ones but this one decided to be mean.â
âshouldnât your job be enough to satisfy the simplicity of childhood?â gem raised her sunglasses to get a better look at jennifer. âunless of course, you enjoy being like thirty and alone watching other peoplesâ children in which case, no worries, youâre doing it right.â

silas lets out a long exhale, his stack of essays too high to deal with this irrational attempt at an argument. â i wouldnât say your reading comprehension is a proven skill, â he retorts. only now deigning to glance up again at his sister and her wardrobe choice, his eyes narrow in annoyance. â oh, really, gemma ? do you think youâre above the rules because youâre a holloway ? or are you under the impression acting out makes you more popular ? â he gestures to his desk. â iâm clearly preoccupied, so unless you want me to write home to mother and father, you can change your clothes or you can go cry to jer. iâm sure heâs free. â
âc, all of the above. not that i need to be any more popular. if i were, they might just have to rename the school after me. and wouldnât it just be super convenient for you to have the same last name as me then? yes, yes it would.âÂ
gemma snorted at his threat. âwhat are they going to do from there? ground me? show up here? so that they can call us by our real names? do you really want that, bartholomew? or would you much rather put up with me; your cute, lovable baby sister who will always call you silas in public no matter how mean you are?âÂ

gemma stood, arms crossed, trying her best not to lean against the wall. she already had an ever-growing list of offenses, one of which she was in the middle of being lectured about, and she was well aware of the fact that bad attitude was about to be added to it.
âyes, i do understand that thereâs a rule about dress code for classes. contrary to popular belief, i do in fact know how to read. however, i happen to think this rule is stupid given the fact that we basically live here and more than half of the people in this school have seen me in less clothes than this on any given day off. so basically, what iâm saying is: until the rule is amended, i will continue to break it.â

gemma ran to catch up with him and was quick enough that she was able to keep up with his speedy pace. â uh- letâs say, hypothetically speaking, someone was practicing deflecting and destroying flying objects. and they um- accidentally missed the target and blew a hole in one of the training room walls... who would be the best person to talk to about that to avoid getting in trouble? hypothetically.â
Dante was having a particularly unruly day; there was a stack of papers on his desk that he had forgotten to grade and his coffee kept getting cold before he could finish it. He slipped on his coat at the end of the day, grabbing his suitcase before he left and locked the door to his office. He sauntered down the hallways of Brighton Institiute, his brow raising slightly as he heard his name being called. Professor Lexington spun on his heels, turning to see the culprit. âWhat can I help you with?â He began walking again as they caught up to him, not even bothering to match their pace. âMake it quick â I have places to go and people to see.â

gemma was using one of the banisters as a lounge chair, sunglasses on, with something that resembled a small sphere floating above her head. âreally? hello kitty?â she asked without looking up. â you do understand that youâre an adult, right? also isnât the creator of hello kitty the one who was insistent that hello kitty was not a cat but in fact a human?â she wiggled her fingers and the small ball transformed into a hello kitty figurine. âi donât know about you but i wouldnât want to support that level of crazy.â
âOne of the kids in daycare today told me my hello kitty phone case was lame and I couldnât think of a comeback,â Jennifer sighed to the first person she saw. âWhere is the respect for the classics?â
