I am selfish. I have lived selfishly throughout my 23 years of existence only to be selfless in a few important moments in life. Being selfish is the only thing I have known, the only thing engraved in my bones ever since I was born, until I found about about love. It’s actually funny, because they tell you you need to love yourself before you can love others, but loving myself is the only thing I have known. Loving someone else? Making them a priority instead of my own? That shit is euphoric, like being high on drugs. Just like an addict I’d be willing to give up all I have, my plans and future just to get a hold of you. I would be willing to sell everything I own, just to keep you in my arms. How do we know if we’re ready? How do we know we’re okay, and ready to love again and not just lonely? Is there a sign? Symptoms? Or atleast a checklist we see if we’re on the correct path to healing. A rough estimated time will help to but ones journey to healing and self preservation is different from another. Some just take a few weeks, months while other struggle for years but never truly get what they want.
