What is Imbolc?

Imbolc is a holiday that takes place on February 1st. I celebrates the beginning of spring and growth. It is a time of renewal, fresh beginnings, and hope towards the future. It is the perfect time to make life decisions, try new things, and attempt to move forward from anything that might be holding you back in your past. 

How Can I Celebrate?

Try out a new hobby

Plant something

Cook something

Really anything that involves you creating something

Volunteer at a nature clean-up event 

Clean your house physically

Cleanse your house magickally

Start a journal

Apply for jobs

Have that risky conversation that you’ve been wanting to have but dreading

Wear that outfit that makes you nervous that people will think it looks stupid. OWN IT

Re-decorate your altar

If you are planning on having a baby, this will be a good day to… uh.. start trying.

How to make black salt:

-Charcoal;

💀🌷How to Win a Fairy’s Favor or Avoid a Fairy’s Cruse🌷💀

🌷 Want to attract friendly fairies? Put out food and drink for them. Many of them like milk,honey,wine,fruit,and bread. Gifts of clothing,coins,and shiny trinkets also appeal to some fairies. In return, they might offer you treasure or healing benefits.

🌷 In the Brothers Grimm’s story “The Three Little Men in the Wood”, fairies give a little girl gold in exchange for a bit of bread. You might try these things to win their favor too:

Build a fairy house for them to live in

Sing and dance, and invite the fairies to join you

Play a flute or ring wind chimes

Respect nature and animals

Eat only organic food

Become vegetarian

Support causes that protect nature and wildlife

Plant a garden (no pesticides,please.)

🌷 Not everyone wants fairies lingering around,however. If you’d rather these unpredictable spirits kept their distance, you could try the tactics our ancestors used:

Display iron objects

Sprinkle salt around

Hang up garlic

Hang a rowan branch above your door

Make loud noises

Ring church bells

🌷 Probably the best advice for dealing with fairies is to err on the side of caution. Let them make the first move. Be courteous, but not solicitous. Don’t  invite them into your life or try to insert yourself into theirs. If you meet a fairy or if one gives you a gift, keep that secret between you and the fairy. If fairies want to stop by at midnight and wash your dishes or muck out the stables, fine. But if they invite you to dinner or offer to babysit your kids, beware.

🌱🧚Finding Earth Spirits In The Wild🧚🌱

🌱Earth spirits are just about the easiest ones to make contact with. Their forms tend to be less subtle than those of many fairies,and they generally stick to one place- so if you feel a location is haunted by these beings, it will always be haunted. Wherever anything grows, there will be a fairy to attend to it.

🌱 Earth fairies love gardens,and will gather round you while you are planting and watering. At the end of a hot day they exult when you get out the hose or watering can, and will dance among the refreshed flowers with glee. Often they do not like you weeding,though,so make sure you always do this with respect. Leave a patch of your garden to grow wild, for the fairies love this and it creates a space for all the plants that are unwelcome elsewhere- just because humans do not like them, this does not mean they do not have a valuable place in the scheme of things.

🧚 Method 🧚

To draw close to the gnomes,settle quietly in your garden or in a park,woodland, field, or hillside- close to a barrow-mound may be the most powerful place of all. Gnomes of the deep earth may be experienced in a cave or hollow,whereas others may be more of the flower- or tree-fairy types. Let your bare feet and hands make contact with the earth,mud or stone. Beat a soft rhythm on a drum,if you wish.

Be very still, relaxed,and quiet. Try not to see anything,because that will put you in the wrong frame of mind. Just be there, and be observant- these spirits do not show themselves in the ways you might expect, and seeing them can seem almost ordinary.

Be aware of any little movements out of the corner of your eye, for that is where spirits are often first perceived. An animal running in the undergrowth may also be a shy gnome in disguise. Look out for the face of the Green Man among the leaves, and watch flowers, for they can also be sweet faces, nodding and smiling.

To show they have drawn close to you, gnomes will often give you a tangible gift,such as a coin or a piece of jewelry. If you find this on your path,treasure it, for it is very lucky.

🐇What Is Ostara?

🌼 Ostara is a celebration of the start of spring, it’s when night and day  have become at perfect balance with each other. At this time, light now begins to take over darkness. Signs of spring are here for most of us or are arriving very soon. New life and growth are appearing all around us. Winter is drawing to an end and it’s getting to the time where we need to shake off the winter, if we haven’t already at Imbolc, and move full force ahead. All of the planning and procrastinating at Imbolc is now to be put to the test and begun. It’s a time for fertility, new growth, the birth of animals and insects too. The sun is slowly awakening to its full potential. The sun god and the young maiden goddess are married now and so conception is imminent. When she gives birth she will become the great mother. It’s also time to begin to honour your spring deities and your fertility deities, the main one being the Germanic Anglo-Saxon goddess Ostara who the sabbat is named after. She wakes up the earth with her powerful energy and creates fertility, growth and renewal all around. Ostara often takes the form of a hare of rabbit, which is why rabbits are a huge symbol of Ostara.

🐇 How To Celebrate It

🌼 Easter, the traditional Christian holiday that is widely celebrated, has been adapted from the pagan Sabbat Ostara. As you may know, Easter is named after the female hormone oestrogen, necesary for fertility, which is one of the main aspects of the celebration of Ostara. As Easter has evolved from Ostara, there are actually quite a few similarities between the two holidays.

🌼 Any plans or goals that you would like to complete this year, get started on them now; motivation is high!

🌼 Start your magickal herb garden if you haven’t already, if you don’t have room, no worries! Small pots and plants in appropriate places can be just as effective.

🌼 Take a walk, look for the first inspirational and motivational signs of spring, Maybe even press a flower or two.

🌼 Hold an Ostara egg hunt.

🌼 Wear green to represent the green earth arriving.

🌼 Decorate it with green, purple and yellow ribbons to represent the spring and greenery that comes to the earth,

🌼 Paint real or fake eggs for your altar to represent fertility and honor the fertility goddess Ostara.

🌼 Decorate your altar with some spring flowers- only pick a few though! After picking flowers, water them to give thanks and plant some more seeds around them if you can.

🌼 Pot up a plant and place it at your altar, keep it healthy and watch it grow and flourish.

🌼 Add statues, trinkets or stuffed toys of hares or rabbits- these are major symbols of fertility and immortality, and are close representations of fertility deities.

okkkk this post is just for fun and for you babes are into the more mystical side of spirituality! signs there are faeries in your house : 

you see lights dancing out the corner of your eye 

your shoes seem to move - when I was little, I would always swear to my parents that my shoes would shift every time I woke up. the movements are usually so tiny that most people will dismiss it as their brains messing with them.

jewelry and shiny objects vanish  a l l   t h e   f u c k i n g   t i m e.  I once left a dangly earring on my bathroom counter, turned around, and looked back to see it slipping into the sink. it was as if a magnet was pulling it in, craziest thing in the world !! (then proceeded to cry because I really wanted to wear that fucking earring bitch)

you walk into a room and immediately forget what you went in there to do/get - sometimes just a psychological thing but if it happens randomly + frequently, could be a sign!

plants grow effortlessly around your house - even if you live in an urban area or don’t actively garden, you’ll find that everything just grows quickly.

birds, bees, wasps, etc. build nests around your house - even though there are a thousand other natural places for them to live.

your pets get random bursts of energy/excitement despite any visible stimulation - in celtic folklore this is considered a sign that the fae are playing around with your pets!

you hear bells, tapping, or singing at night or early morning - will sound like it’s distant but close at the same time, as if drifting from another realm.

Book of Shadows Series✨

Today we will be talking about your Book of Shadows! To begin you will need a notebook, binder, sketchbook or etc. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. It should be whatever you feel comfortable using. It is recommended that every spell or ritual you add is hand written. This is to help you connect to your book better. A book of shadows is used to document all of your work, experiences, and learning throughout your Witchcraft journey. You can document the things that worked for you and the things that didn’t. Later on you can look back and see how far you have progressed on your own journey.

How do you set up your own BOS?

First Page:

You can write down your name and the date, then put down a spell to protect the book or warn other people that this is private and for your eyes only. (there will be another post with instructions for a bos protection spell) If you are Wiccan you may want to draw a protection sigil or pentagram.

This is what the first page of my bos looks like and you may use this as an example. I most considered myself as an eclectic Witch but I do a lot of work with the elements and I follow the part of the Wiccan path.

• Second Page:

You can write down a statement of your beliefs. Is there a certain pantheon you follow with certain laws and rules? What do you believe in? Or if you follow the Wiccan reds or the threefold law you can add that

• Third and Fourth Page:

You can put your table of contents here (if you’re like me and like organization)

Grimoire/Book of Shadows Protection Spell

Here’s how I did my spell in case any other new witches would wanna try it!

I started by putting this sigil (by user @ceramyn) inside the front cover of my book thinking that then if someone touches the front cover they would immediately feel a negative response and put my book back down. 

Then, I used a small stool as my altar since i don’t have an actual altar set up, or much of anything yet really, and set it up like this:

5 candles:

 3 white tea lights placed at south, east, and west; 

1 white taper candle placed at north surrounded by little green glass stones i found around my house (my sign/element corresponds to earth so i put some emphasis on that direction–north=earth) 

a red candle to light the others during the spell 

I put my book in the center of all of these candles and lit them one by one according to their order in the spell, then held the red candle throughout the duration of the spell.

By the north, bless this book with the power of the Earth By the south, bless this book with the power of fire By the east, bless this book with the power of air By the west, bless this book with the power of water

Keep this book secret from wondering eyes and safe from the prying look, fill it with power, ancient and wise and let me learn and grow from this book

When I said the last phrase i placed my hand on my grimoire and repeated it until i felt i had put enough intent/power into it. At the end i let one drop of the red candle’s wax fall in the center circle of that sigil i put on the inside cover.

Book of Shadows Series pt. 2✨

For today’s Book of Shadows Series post we will be talking about blessings and protections. It is not required to included a blessing/protection spell, ritual, or sigil but they are very helpful especially to those of us who are still in the broom closet and dont want wondering eyes finding it. Below is an entry that I have written in my own book of shadows. Please feel free to copy what i have written into your own book. You can tweak and change it to suit how you want it. 

Materials:

Sage

Lavender

anything you use to cast a circle (i will list my materials)

a candle to represent each element (blue, red, green, purple, and yellow)

Salt

Your Book of Shadows

Casting your Blessing/Ritual/Spell

Start by casting your circle 

Place the candles in their proper places**

Use your salt to enclose yourself and the candles in a circle

Light your sage and lavender

Pass your book through the smoke and allow the smoke to enter the pages of the book

Visualize energy filling the book as you read the protection spell that you have written into your book of shadows

That doesn’t mean its the only way to cast a circle but its one way you can and you can use it as an example to figure out how you would like to set up/cast your own circle that fits to you and your craft.

Protection and Blessing 

This is an example from my own book of shadows. You may use this or tweak it to fit you and your craft.

Let it be written and let it be spake, so be it there as no mistake, a blessing on this sacred book. Bastet, I ask you to guard this work form those whose thoughts in darkness lurk. 

Powers of the east, the wind, and the sky, may the truth remain seen in my mind’s eye, your wisdom and knowledge, for these I do ask. May this book be worthy, as the craft and its task.

Powers of the west, the water, and the sea, I ask you to cleanse and to purify this book and I. So might my work be pure of heart and guide me through the dark.

Powers of the north, the earth below, may you guide me through life and allow me to grow. Lend me your strength and stability as I practice my craft, and with love, be set free.

To the unschooled eye let see confusing words and lead them from these sacred pages.

Yet to the witches whose map this be may the way be plain to see and through all of the coming years may we find a home in these pages. So mote it be.

Below is an example of a protection sigil that I have created myself. I put this sigil on the outside of my book that way anybody who doesn’t know about me and my craft will not be tempted to take a look inside. You are not required to have a protection sigil I personally just wanted and extra boost because I live with other people who don’t know I practice.

I do offer sigil requests so if you are interested in adding a protection sigil but you’re not sure how to do one please feel free to send in a request for one. I will design one that is specifically tied to you and your book of shadows!

~10 Kinds Of Magical Books~

1. Book Of Shadows- A witch’s book of spells, rituals, personal feelings, etc. It is a general book for any metaphysical or religious information that you wish to put into it, among other things.

2.Bestiary- A sometimes hand-written encyclopedia or manual of mythological and magical creatures and beings, used for reference when you want to work with a non-human energy, or for general research. 

3.Grimoire- Usually filled with tables and charts, lists relating to astrological, numerical, and color correspondences; properties of crystals, herbs, trees, etc. Contains moon phase meanings and medicinal properties of plants- This one has an old-timey textbook feel to it, usually.

4.Book Of Mirrors- a special journal, where you ‘reflect’ on things going on in your day to day life, providing deep insights which are invaluable when you’re doing work regarding personal growth. Very helpful with developing personal spiritual philosophies.

5.Book Of Moons- A book entirely relating to the moon and it’s cycles, names of the moons of each month, their attributes and energies, dates of lunar eclipses as well as full moon dates of upcoming moons. Filled with vast knowledge of lunar attributes and special dates of red moons, blue moons, etc.

6.Dream Journal- Here you record the dreams you have in as much detail as you can remember, and some people draw images from their dream adventures in this book as well, since dreams use the language of symbolism and imagery. You interpret the meanings of your dreams in here too, if you wish. Dreams can help us get a glimpse into our subconscious and the more dreams you write the easier it becomes for you to remember them.

7. Book of Visions- A vision book is used with the law of attraction, it is a ‘vision board’ in book form. Put different images of things you want in life, be they experiences, physical items, money, health, etc, in the pages of the book. Open the book up to pictures of what you want to visualize having. Think of this as an on-the-go vision board, except with much more space as there are so many pages!

8.Book Of Positive Aspects- At the top of each page you write the name of a topic that you are unhappy with, like ‘the workplace’  for example. Below the topic title you begin listing all the positive aspects of the subject, and by the end of your list your emotions will be in a much better place regarding the topic. You can do a list a day or many in one sitting, it is a valuable tool for cultivating positive energy or for switching viewpoints on things that normally would upset you.

9.Gratitude Journal- A book where you write about EVERYTHING you are thankful and appreciative for in your life right now. You feel overwhelmed with love and positivity when writing in this book, which aids you in raising your vibration and frequency.

10. Book Of Intuitions- a psychic journal, it’s a book where all divination and psychic exercises are recorded, ranging from full tarot spreads, to tea leaf readings, even psychic impressions you pick up off people. It’s handy for tracking progress as well as for record keeping.

Casting a circle is a thing many witches do before they preform magick to protect them from any unwanted visitors or energies, it also keeps your powerful magick and energy inside the circle to make your magick stronger. Please note this is just my method of casting circles not all witches and Wiccan’s do it the same. 1. Sweep away air in your room with a broomstick or using your hands in a sweeping motion 2. Mix water and salt together then sprinkle around yourself in a circle - this represents earth and water elements 3. Burn sage or incense around you in the same circular motion - the burning of this represents fire and the smoke represents air 4. Now lay down your stone, crystals, salt etc. In a circle 5. Call upon your god or goddess you which to watch over you 6. Start at east and point your wand and say “element of air I call upon you to watch over me and this circle” 7. Turn to south and say “element of fire I call upon you to watch over me and this circle” 8. Turn to west and say “element of water I call upon you to watch over me and this circle” 9. Turn to north and say “element of earth I call upon you to watch over me and this circle” 10. Then turn to face east again and this time point your wand up to the sky and say “element of spirit I call upon you to watch over me and he circle” 11. Then you’ve cast your circle! protection spell

A simple spell to ward off danger from a loved one.

What You Need:

A white candle

Pen and paper

Something that belongs to the person you are trying to protect (optional, but highly recommended

The Spell:

Light your candle and write the name of the intended person on the paper.

Focus on that person as you chant:

Dancing flame in front of me Keep this person safe as can be Protect (her/him/them) from any harm Keep (her/him/them) safe, keep (her/him/them) warm

Put the paper to the flame. Envision the warmth from the flame protecting the intended person, like a forcefield from harm.

If you have an object of theirs, hold it to you as the paper burns, breathing your energy into it.

Once the paper has burned completely, blow out your flame, and thank it for its warmth.
