FISH TANK! I’m on a movie-watching roll today. I have a lot to praise about this one! Fish tank is part of your generic “rebelling teenager” movie, except this is really engraved within me, and I finished the movie around 5 minutes ago, but I really love it. It’s clear Mia hasn’t had the most stable youth, her mother clearly has her own (literally herself) priorities, and her sisters growing up just the same as she did, they’re a working-class family, and Joanne is a single mother with an incredibly large social circle, there’s no room for Mia. I won’t spoil because this is a film I want everyone to watch, I’m begging you! Mia’s a stupid teenager that makes stupid naive mistakes, but none that you can’t see your desperate self doing. From the opening of her almost degrading her “best friend” that she clearly wants back, and what she does as some unplanned revenge toward Connor, it’s all so realistic not ONLY for a teenager, but for a working-class teenager who’s out of education and any luck. Although I wasn’t nearly as brave or unlucky as Mia was, I’d really like to think she was cool in my head, and I definitely would’ve when I was 15, even though I can see how impulsive she’s being half the time, she cares a whole lot, and that’s what makes this film. Fish Tank is definitely one of my favourites and I give it a 100/5 in my easy to please book.

THE DREAMERS! was something. Truthfully I didn’t actually finish the film, and we ALL KNOW WHY! I do understand why the characters do what they do and the implications of parental abuse of some sort to make the twins the way they were, but I really couldn’t get past the blatant incest throughout the film. Isabelle and Theo are good characters besides their sexual attraction to eachother, and I think Matthew is also enjoyable to watch! If it was a bissexual awakening within Matthew (which it certainly was) leading to him deciding between the TWO, then I’d really enjoy it! I do validate the confirmation of “wrongness” that the twins’ relationship is, but I think many of these scenes just rubbed me the wrong way, and I wouldn’t complain so much if the writer/director wasn’t so pussy as to cut out almost everything between Matthew and Theo! In the book, there’s apparently a large amount of description and discussion over the homosexual relationship they have, but it was almost all cut within the film! And it painted Matthew to simply be a competitor to Theo’s relationship with his OWN TWIN SISTER! I couldn’t finish the film, I couldn’t do it - I think the acting is really great, and the cinematography is also really good - but I think incest (no matter context and complexity) is just something I can’t gut myself to watch throughout, even if it is acting. Perhaps I’m just shallow minded, but I personally didn’t enjoy the film after all of this, whatever floats your boat, I suppose! In my easy to please book, this somehow gets a 2/5, sorry dreamers!

TANGERINE! What a beautiful film, I always go out my way to watch LGBTQ+ cinema, and I just knew I had to watch it, the colours are so incredibly vivid! For something that was a true indie film, the shots and quality are just amazing! And on an IPhone 5S? yeah, it’s amazing. Not only the quality in the film but the acting, too! The dialogue is amazing, and as a scriptwriter- you know dialogue means nothing if your actors can’t represent it, and every single actor in this film did an amazing job at representing what they were talking about, they understood what they were saying. Sean baker loves representing the underbelly of America, and although I wasn’t a fan of Anora, I think this is really one of the best works he’s been involved in. In my easy to please book this is a 4/5 !

Shakedown (2018), directed by Leilah Weinraub is a wonderful representation of community & solidarity, sexuality, entertainment and the freeing moments of the duality of being black and lesbian. All of the girls in this documentary are filled with accomplishment toward who they are. They’re sexually liberated women within a community that not only shares the taste but appreciates every moment that are shared with them. These entertainers aren’t forced, they aren’t vulnerable, they’re having fun. what we know is that this is an underground black queer erotic entertainment club - and we’re told of the girls’ experience being there, which is primarily exhilarating and empowering at shakedown. The ending footage shows how shakedown is under threat by the LAPD, there’s this specific moment where a dancer; Jazmyne is arrested mid-dance for what I can assume is the sexual nature of her entertainment, and this is set in stone by her lack of clothing. she’s put in handcuffs without any underwear, all she has is herself and the eyes upon her, and it’s safe to say these eyes are mourning the moment. Girls are giving her clothing, gathering her dignity as they make sure she walks out of that club decent to the eye of an outsider looking in, they all have each-other and I think it’s really great. Shakedown is a “Exuberant Portrait of radical hedonism and a moving, vital time capsule.” And I couldn’t agree more. Some places are hard to find.

here’s mine! I’m going on to study scripts and I realised I haven’t watched almost any movies. I’ve watched my top 4 in the past year and a half (except Suckerpunch, I watched that a WHIIILLLEE ago) although I think it’s pretty basic, I’m trying to broaden my horizons! I’d love some film-geek friends to talk about films/fandoms/stories with! I’m qkvc on letterboxd, or follow me here - I’d love to chat! (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) .ᐟ.ᐟ

Good Will Hunting, how I truly truly adore this movie. I think Matt Damon and Ben Affleck created a beautiful script to depict something so new (to audiences at the time) the depiction of a struggling, working class boy being one of the smartest people in the world - but also have his own emotional struggles, that IQ doesn’t amount to help - is something really interesting to watch. I think that Minnie Driver was also a beautiful choice for Skylar, she’s a upper class young woman that is open minded to people around her, she isn’t ignorant and she doesn’t have a major saviour complex for Will. She tries to understand his emotions and his psyche as his LOVER and FRIEND- not as a psychologist or professor. In my easy to please book, Good Will Hunting is an easy 5/5 for me.

STRANGER THINGS SEASON 1! recently watched because @kissboybyler did and I’m a sheep so I HAD to hop on it! I can remember watching season 1 with my parents a couple of years after the first season was released, I was only around 12 when I watched it and I can remember being so infatuated with the characters and their relationships. The boys are so pure and so kind to eachother in all their own ways! Nancy and Steve are so complex and Byler nation… I get you. Even in season one! Mike and Will have a connection the rest of the boys don’t have, and it’s so clear! Even with Elle there, it’s obvious. Can’t wait to see how they develop throughout the seasons (although I’ve already watched), Joyce is badass too - I love her! Even in crazy moments. I can remember liking season after season more than the last, and they’re all so perfect! And oh Will my boy ☹️ he makes me so sad I love him so much. Season 1 Stranger things, you changed me - when I was 12 and now when I’m 18! 5/5

Shameless Movie Review but Monkey Man is genuinely one of my favourite action movies of all time. I definitely like it more than the John Wick films, which would ruffle a few feathers when I told people. Dev Patel is an excellent actor, with credits such as; The Green Knight, Lion, Slumdog Millionare and more! He not only proved his acting ability, but wrote & directed Monkeyman too! It’s culturally representative, revenge driven and hot. I said it. Dev Patel is incredibly hot in this film. as we all KNOW anyway. Minus the physical visuals, the cinematographer did a fantastic job! From the camera following the action, to the lighting for the emotionally driven scenes, Sharone Meir has also worked on; Whiplash, Coach Carter, Silent night and more, which seem to have a pattern for horror. Audibly the soundtrack for Monkeyman is very different, from the eerie “red sex” to the upbeat “Ooh La La”, the range in soundtrack has been picked beautifully by the sound team. Dev Patel is Credited as the Writer and Director for “The Peasent” so I have really high hopes for this upcoming project! Monkeyman is a 10/5 in my easy to please book. If you like action films, good cinematography and juicy valid revenge driven plots, you will adore Monkeyman.

I don't care if it's overdone I support Dev Patel's establishment of a Righteous Vengeance Cinematic Universe. Look at him
