Sid was already there, leaning forward in his stall with his elbows on his knees, stripped to his base layers. He hadn’t showered yet, even though he’d had plenty of time. His eyes landed on Zhenya immediately, hard and defiant. “We would have lost anyway,” Sid gritted out, the words bludgeoning their way through the damp, stale air. “We were down by five. We weren’t coming back.”

That didn’t matter. Zhenya knew it, and Sid knew it. Everyone else in the room knew it, but they were all feigning extreme interest in their pads, their phones, their Gatorade bottles. “Sid—” Zhenya started.

“We were going. To lose. Anyway,” Sid interrupted, his jaw clenched tight. He looked like he was on the verge of showing his teeth.

Everything hinged on what Zhenya did next.

no matter how terrible my day is. i can always end my day in bed imagining fictional characters making out sloppy style and fucking raw. and that's beautiful. there's some good in this world mister frodo and it's worth fighting for
