in my mind there is a reality, like, several dozen hop-skip-jumps away from canon which is plausible yet incredibly unlikely, wherein the nine year gap leads to ocelot and kaz pulling each other out of the big boss doom spiral and doing literally anything else with the rest of their lives. it's one of those things where the branching decisions that would have to take place for this to successfully occur are so specific that there's no way it could ever have happened for real. but like. the 0.0001% universe is compelling.
