The unfortunate thing is also most abusive types know how to hide their behaviors until they have what they want. As someone who lived with an abusive father I saw the situation with my mother unfold. He was fine when it was just my mother and my sister who came from a previous relationship my mom had but once I was in the mix things changed. He got drunk and violent and if it weren’t for my mom threatening to call the cops if he ever hit us I knew he’d be all for beating us.

And these women in situations like this either act like ostriches with their heads in the sand (if I didn’t see it, it didn’t happen) or they’re so used to winding up in these situations that they think they can’t do better and they’d rather let the abuser continue the behavior than be alone. My dad actually tried to choke my mom in a drunken fight and she still married him four years later.

Susan is both types in my opinion. She’s used to being with toxic men and doesn’t wanna rock the boat even to help her step son. In her mind if she ignores the problem maybe it’ll go away. And her choices in season 4 show it too.

seriously tho what did Max's mom see in Billy's dad? why did she every get together with him when she's witnessed him beat Billy? it's definitely not the first time she's seen it happen either.

Billy accepted the help and wiped at the blood on his hands with the handkerchief. He can feel the sting of a few cuts on his knuckles that he took mental note of to clean once they get back to the trailer park.

The rage had been impossible to hold back. Eddie was his… something. No matter how many times they touch the subject it’s hard for him to wrap his mind around Eddie maybe returning his feelings. But hearing that guy say all that shit.. it wasn’t going to fly with Billy. “Let’s go home.”

It took a moment for Billy to get to his feet, hands covered in blood and dirt from the ground. If they leave the cops will still show up eventually but at least he can think straight if given a chance to calm down. “Yeah, let’s go back to your place.”

The blonde gave the unconscious asshole one last kick to the foot before joining Eddie. “Sorry, Eds. I just hated how he talked to you.”

The thing i don’t get about people who are so set on hating on Billy, even after watching season 3, is the absolute certainty that he was not a human being - a boy - capable of change.

Like. Come on. Everything could have happened during the seven months that separated s2 from s3. For what we know, in that fragment of time billy could have apologized to steve. to lucas. both Sadie and Dacre said that billy had been respecting her boundaries, they were not friends yet but at least they had started to be civil towards each other.

Max looked DESPERATE as she saw him crying in the sauna. She was devastated by his death, so much that she wanted to join him.

And this is not only because he was her brother, but because she had seen potential. in him. to change.

So why can’t you?

Guy who is touch starved but emotionally repressed goading you into punching him for completely normal reasons

random billy interactions with other characters that I would have absolutely sold my left kidney for:

billy & robin —> the only reason they did not interact was because Steve would have thrown himself under a bus after an hour spent in their combined presence (they would have 100% ganged up on him)

billy & nancy —> it’s not a super popular duo and it makes me so sad because I could totally see them being academic rivals. and the fun thing is that Nancy could never that coming in a MILLION YEARS, but then during a class the teacher asks a question to hargrove thinking he was distracted and guess what!! most eloquent speech that class had heard in ages (except for when Nancy was the one to make them ofc). She is furious and a bit thrilled at the prospect of having met someone with the brains to match her in class (but she would NEVER in a million years tell him that, because he is still an asshole, of course)

billy & will —> the Williams 😔 they would have bonded so much over the many traumas they had in common:

• abusive dads

• a crush for an oblivious idiot (which they think it’s unrequited)

• possessed by the mind flayer

• cursed with being the ones who attracted the most number of girls in the show

billy & joyce —> listen, THAT’S HIS MOTHER !! I won’t take any criticism

billy & johnatan —> and that’s his brother. with whom he would have 100% argued with over music tho.

billy & lucas —> a storyline about understanding and change of perspective with them would have been soooo important in order to show the audience that you are not forced to believe the prejudices you grew up with for the rest of your life, and that the world out there is so much bigger and different than the one your family taught you about. also billy could have 100% been lucas’ basketball coach during the period of time leading to season 4, as an offer of peace after apologizing.

billy & hopper —> billy would have reminded hopper too much of himself, and hopper would have reminded billy too much of his dad. Not because he was like Neil, but the association would have been inevitable at first. I don’t exactly know how their relationship would have worked out in canon, but it certainly would have taken them a looooot of time to even stand being in the same room together, let alone to start learning more about each other.
