Skepticism issue:

I repeatedly see discussions about how "humans needs spirituality." Sometimes this is followed by "you don't need religion, but you need something. "

I'd like to push back on that. What I often see described as the "necessary" parts of "spirituality" is mostly connection. Connection with others, connection with a sense of self, goals and hopes and community. And then they'll have a line about the "soul". (Which does not exist as a separate entity from the mind unless you have spiritual beliefs).

Connection and community do not require spirituality. Self-worth and a sense of self do not require spirituality. Tying these things inherently to spirituality is not a given. Belief in a soul is not necessary to be happy.

You are not required to believe in non-evidentiary things to be a full person.

Not to be atheist on main again, but like: I really do think this wing of tumblr, as a whole, is getting way too comfortable with being reflexively pro religion. I've been to mass, as a child and as an adult. I'm grateful I was not raised religiously because I can say this for certain: the things that get taught in mass are often hateful and deplorable, and it it is not uncommon for children to develop a deeply harmful relationship with those teachings.

I simply do not doubt that a great many lesbians required to attend mass during their formative years would have developed traumatic guilt and self loathing as a result.

And like I said, that's it for Sinnoh! Well, Sinnoh in the present day at least, but we're not getting to Hisui for quite some time hehe. Gonna take another brief break from this series, and when we pick it back up we're going international :D

Was tagged by @pollyannam3 and I did wanna do this, but I decided to make a new post to kinda spare y'all's dash scroll hehe c:

fanfic opening lines

Tag game: Share the opening lines of your last 10 fics (you choose how many if you have less than 10) & tag others!

The Mole: Shades of Nightfall (multifandom gen-fic): "A calm ocean breeze blew all around the cliffside, interrupted suddenly by the sound of helicopter blades chopping through the air. Several of the aerial vehicles were making their way to the cliff, and gradually they were briefly landed one by one to let out their passengers. The first helicopter’s single passenger was a wooden doll clad in a blue cape and matching hat, stepping out carefully yet confidently." (went with the opening lines for the actual story rather than what would be a cold open to a hypothetical TV show)

Pokemon Circuit Version (Pokemon OC-centric gen-fic): "I groaned, rolled over, and grabbed my phone to turn off my alarm. Curse past me for thinking it was funny to make my alarm be the wake-up song from an early StephenVlog video. I opened my phone and turned on the wifi, going through my socials to check what was going on with everyone. Same as always, getting followed by spam-bots on Tumblr, seeing reasonable people get yelled at for not being unreasonable on Twitter, more spam-bots commenting on my Instagram to “dm to insert-stupid-promo-account-here”, other such things. I popped over to Discord and immediately saw a message from Mira."

Pokemon Plow Version (Pokemon OC-centric gen-fic): "I tiredly waved at the receptionist and made my way to one of the comfier chairs in the waiting room. The large TV hanging on the wall was playing some kids’ cartoon, most likely because the five-year-old on the other side of the room had begged his parents to change it given that customers had free access to the remote while in the waiting room. It was incredibly loud and obnoxious, not what I needed this early in the morning. Thankfully that was the sort of thing I had brought headphones for, so I plugged them into the old MP3 player I’d brought and popped open my tablet to take care of some writing."

The Benevolent Doppelganger (Smile For Me, Habismal and f/f OCs): "“Let’s go, let’s go, come on!” “I’m hurreying as fast as I ‘can’!” “We’re not gonna make it!” “FASTER, POPS! GO GO GO!!!”"

One Hundred and One Smiles (Smile For Me, one-shot collection): "Even before he had turned, Trencil was never much of a fan of the Christian faith. Ursa Major (Smile For Me, nb/m Flower Kid x OC): "The first couple months of college had been going pretty well for Cosmos. Well, in terms of actually attending classes and doing the coursework, at least. It certainly didn’t hurt that they had lucked out when searching for a sign interpreter for larger lecture halls, managing to be able to work with their sister’s girlfriend who they already somewhat knew. And the classes themselves were manageable on their own merit, literally the only extra help they needed was communication accommodations. There was only one real problem."

Tumbling Down (Smile For Me, Habismal): "Boris woke up to panicked movement in the bed beside him. Confused, he turned over to see what was going on, and what he saw concerned him. Kamal was tossing and turning in his sleep, and when his face turned to where Boris could see it, he could see that it held an expression of discomfort. He didn’t want to disturb him during what was clearly a nightmare of sorts, he had no idea if doing so would help or just cause more panic…"

Shattered Serenity (Smile For Me, Habismal): "For all the tumultuous events in his life, the past year of Boris Habit’s life had seen considerable improvements. Sure, there was the whole Habitat thing, which by anyone’s account was an absolute disaster even if it hadn’t gotten as bad as it would have if his plan had succeeded. But his encounter with the florist’s child had helped him realize he needed to change."

Removing the Rose's Thorns (Smile For Me, Dr Habit & Flower Kid friendship that I categorized as m/m [Habismal, not FK] cuz I was NOT thinking): "The car pulled into the driveway of the decently large house, both it and the house itself seeming unfitting for the neighborhood in different ways. A middle-aged woman stepped out of the driver's seat, and Cosmos stepped out of the front shortly after."

I...huh, I'unno anyone who I could tag tbh, not really one for putting people on the spot like this...do it if you want I guess XD
