People who ruin fandoms...

1. The Headcanon Police. The ones who freak out over someone’s interpretation of a character and then go out of their way to harass them. Even if it’s something completely miniscule.

2. The Erasure Police. The ones that jump through hoops to turn every little think into an erasure issue. Known for harassing fan art artists and fanfiction writers for creating content they think “erases” a character’s quality and therefore the penalty is getting bullied off of the internet.

3. The Shipping Police. The ones who are “don’t look at me, don’t follow me, don’t talk to me, don’t even breathe in my general direction if you ship (insert ship here)!!!!!” Oddly enough these are usually the ones that will go on anon and harass those that do ship the forbidden pairing. Can also be a hybrid from the Erasure Police.

Fandoms should not be a place where people’s ideas are censored. Be nice, don’t be an ass. Don’t be one of the Fandom Police.

I don’t know what to do anymore.

Hey, so… this is long post, doubt people will read it all, but... it’s under the cut if you want to.

Some of you may be wondering where I’ve been, why I’m barely posting, and such.

So, I’m going to be truthful, and tell those of you who may care, well, what’s going on.

This year, once again, hasn’t really been a good year for me. I got pretty much nowhere in terms of growth, both in artwork and follower count, and not even over half of my watchers on Deviantart bother to even LOOK at any posts I make anymore (about 55 people out of the original 400 actually watch me here, too). I don’t really blame anyone for this, I blame myself on this one.

For the past year, I haven’t put much effort into my work in both school and my artwork. I haven’t managed to keep myself happy with it at all unlike how it used to be back in 2015-2016. The reason for this is because I don’t really know what to do anymore.

For the past year I haven’t been satisfied with anything I’ve done, I haven’t felt proud of it or enjoyed making it, and the reason why there are really long breaks between posts is because I always dreaded drawing anything.

I like making stuff you guys enjoy, which is what I cared about at the time.

But now I realise; if I want to continue and become legitimately successful, I have to create things that I’m proud of. I have to create things I’ll actually enjoy creating. I can’t just carry on making things for comments and pleasing others.

If I want to succeed, I have to enjoy it myself, or things will end up going to shit like they already have.

Not to mention, school is really starting to take its toll on me. I get barely any sleep, no free time, and all I ever get is more and more stress shoved in my face. I need to choose my college, get an interview, and complete two art projects over Christmas. A time for family, except work has been shoved into the mix.

And also, family is a problem too. My parents are starting to take a toll on my mental state, adding more stress along with anxiety and a week to three weeks worth of periods of depression. The verbal abuse along with constant yelling and taking the piss out of me, it’s getting to be too much.

Related to them, I can’t physically draw without being verbally abused. I draw a dinosaur or an animatronic, and the decide they want to treat me like shit again.

They’re really not proud of my decisions, being that I want to work with computers and such, and would rather have me work on a farm, zoo, kennel, or something similar.

Back to drawing, being probably the most important thing on this post; I fucking hate tracing. Yes, I trace almost all of my art. There’s the odd few that aren’t, likely the only last few things on my DA and Tumblr, but, still.

Why do you do it then, I hear you ask? Well, simple answer; I have no choice.I can’t draw using a drawing tablet or by tracing my own traditional art. My parents are always there to go ahead and verbally abuse me or rip the drawing, so even if I HAD a tablet it wouldn’t work out since I can’t hide it.What I want to do is draw traditionally, and then use my tablet to trace it (it’s not a drawing tablet, just an average one). That way, my art will actually be MINE. I also want to try getting my scanner to work and try traditional as well as digital.This does mean you won’t see any more FNaF artwork, but who tf cares? It’s dying anyway, nothing can last forever no matter how good it may be.

Everything I’ve been doing the past year hasn’t been working for me, and I’m afraid things will get worse and worse, until finally, nobody cares about me anymore.

I don’t want to keep restarting in the hopes I can finally start making work that I like, because that would just kill me off faster- people have already gotten tired of me for restarting on a new account a couple times, I can’t keep doing that.

So what I’m gonna do is take a month or two break from the internet (although I may still be on Discord if someone desperately needs me). I just need to take some actual time off, stop stressing about everything that happens to me, and think about what I really want to be in the future.

I’ll see you guys in 2019, hopefully, if I can finally find myself.

For everyone’s information:

The plan for the 17th, when the adult content ban comes in, is to protest.

To do that, we are making as much noise either side of the 17th as possible, and using the site as normal.

On the 17th, dead silence.

People are saying log off but what they really mean is don’t open the site or the app.

But, on the 17th make as much noise as possible on every other platform. Tweet about it and post on facebook and instagram and everywhere else.

What this does is causes a massive dip in ad revenue for one single day. That does not make staff think ‘oh everyone’s gone let’s shut down.’ What it actually makes them think is ‘oh shit people aren’t happy and if people don’t keep using our site we’re out of money and out of jobs.’

A boycott reminds a company that the users (consumers) have the power to make their site (business) worthless with one single coordinated decision.

If you want to join in, here’s what to do:

Do:

Close all open instances of the app and site on all your devices before the 17th

Make posts before and after the 17th on tumblr and other platforms, talking about why this ban is bad

Make posts on other sites during the 17th. Flood the official tumblr staff twitter and facebook with your anger and your opinion

Come back on the 18th and check in

Don’t:

Delete the app from your phone (this doesn’t affect their revenue and since it’s off the store at the moment it’ll be hard to get back)

Delete your account. I mean you can if you want to, but if you keep your account and don’t use it you’re saying to staff that there’s still time to save it. If you delete it’s hard work to come back.

Open the app or website (including specific blogs)

Make any posts (turn down/off your queue and make sure nothing is scheduled)

Go quiet elsewhere. Make it clear that this is just about tumblr, not a mass move away from all social media.

Remember: the execs don’t care about anything but money. Shutting down the site means there’s $0 further income from it. That’s their last possible course of action. If we make it clear we’re not happy, they’ll have to do something or we can do more and more until it becomes too expensive.

Protests take commitment. They’re a defiant action against a business that is doing something wrong. They will try to scare you into not participating, because they’re scared. We hold all the power here, sometimes the execs just need to be reminded of that.
