You only joined the game as a last resort, just like everyone else

Probably should've known it was sketchy the second the guy at the subway said you can "pay with your body"

You were one of the youngest people in there, it felt a bit weird

Before the games even started you were approached by a man named Gi-hun, he was much older than you, just like everyon else there

"You look like you're still a kid, why are you here?" He questioned you, he was being funny, but there was a bit of genuine concern in his voice

After that he kind of decided to stick with you, he wasn't about to let a teenager fend for themselves

Especially after the first game started and it was revealed to everyone that you will actually die if you get eliminated

You managed to survive the first game by hiding behind someone the whole time, you got that idea from other people that did the same

You were young, but you weren't stupid

When Sang-woo joined your alliance, he also seemed very taken aback by your age

He was a lot more helpful to you than to everyone else, even told you to pick the triangle in the second game, he wasn't about to let a child die

You and Sae-byeok, and later Ji Yeong as well, became good friends, they were the closest to you, age-wise, so you understood each other well

And with Sae-byeok you were both foreign to South Korea, you being an exchange student, and her being North Korean, so you were similar in many ways

You and Ali became quite close too, he was very sweet to you all, they all were, but Ali had this warm, comforting energy

Plus you were both not native to Korea, so it was a lot like with Sae-byeok, that aspect brought you two a lot closer

They all gave you some of their food from time to time, especially Gi-hun, he began to see you a bit like his child after a while if he's honest

You weren't that small you were in your teens, but everyone else was about in their 40s, so it was a big difference

I mean, your literal parents were roughly the same age as them

It was very hard to accept that most of you weren't going to make it to the end, they all obviously hoped that you would make it, you were so young, had your whole life in front of you, you weren't even of age yet

But at the same time, they didn't want to die either, basically making friends in this place was both a blessing and a curse

OHHHHH I have a fun one! May I request Sang-woo HCs with a Reader on their team who approaches the games with an unexpected childlike enthusiasm and bold competitive spirit? Kind of like how 001 eagerly moved ahead in RL,GL despite everyone else being frozen in terror. You'd catch most people's eye, it was astonishing how someone could be so calm and even excited to participate in this

He's been sort of... infatuated with you ever since the red light, green light game

You were pretty much the only one not completely frozen and shaking with terror, just slightly taken aback by the murders, (except for the old man, of course, but he assumed that was caused by him being confused, perhaps not fully knowing what's going on)

You definitely weren't prepared ahead or anything like that, you seemed genuinely surprised to find out elimination meant death, but you got over it so quickly, like this wasn't a big deal for you

He was mostly amazed at how good you were at the games though, you took the rules very seriously, despite your childlike spirit, and your unusual calmness caused you to think more clearly and rationally, because you weren't in a state of panic

You were clearly here to win, he respected that

He was the same in that aspect, his main objective was victory no matter what

Most people were put off by you because why the hell would you be so hauntigly happy to be here, but he was mostly interested in how your mind works over anything else

At first he'd just kind of observe you from afar, but eventually he'd have to approach you

You two would talk a lot, he'd even get you to join their team, saying you'd be a valuable addition

You were obviously very competetive, which was important in this kind of situation

You were willing to do anything to win, doing all of it with pure joy and enthusiasm, it was quite chilling at times if he's being honest

He did grow quite fond of you over the few days, you made a good team after-all

It was nice to have someone who understands you, the place could easily make anyone feel very lonely and isolated, despite being filled with people

He could only hope that you'd be able to win together and keep in touch after all of this is over, the games caused you to get pretty close, you had compatible personalities, and I guess shared trauma helps people bond a little as well

Faint snoring filled the room as you lay on your back, staring at the ceiling. You knew this ceiling well, you've been seeing it a lot lately, ever since your fling with Cho Sang-woo started. You bit your cheek anxiously, looking at the man beside you. You've slowly grown attached this ceiling, it brought you comfort, you wanted to stare at it until the morning comes. You wanted to see what it looks like illuminated by the sun, not hidden in the darkness of the night.

You slowly sat up, grabbing all of the clothes that have been scattered on the floor and slipping back into them. This part was always very painful, laced with shame and sadness. You wanted to stay, you wanted to lie back down and stare at the ceiling that made you feel so warm, you wanted to stay with Sang-woo.

You looked at the clock ticking on the wall, it was 5:30. Sang-woo has to wake up soon. You took one last look at him, this was never supposed to happen, you promised each other this didn't mean anything, and yet you fell for him anyway.

You know, perhaps he felt the same way, there was still a hint of hope in you. After-all, he clearly found you at least physically attractive, and you've been friends for a while so you hoped he loved you at least platonically. You didn't know if confessing that you want something more would be foolish, you didn't want to lose the connection you already had, in case he rejected you, but you knew you couldn't go on like this forever.

You'd decided that telling him would be the best option. It made sense, logically, it would just cause you more pain to continue this, you'd have to stop sooner or later. You've been mustering up the courage to tell him for a while now. You wanted to tell him tonight, yet here you were, with your underwear from the previous night in your bag, walking out of Sang-woo's apartment at 5 in the morning, same old routine.

Tonight was a little different though, it might've been just wishful thinking, but you really felt like you've both developed something deeper. You hoped he didn't keep his end of the promise either.

A few days had past since you've seen each other, which was relatively normal. Sang-woo was a busy man, you knew that, yet, you still found yourself missing him, longing for his touch. This was really bad. Feeling brave, you decided to call him. It was unusual for you to make the first move, usually feeling too shy, not wanting to seem clingy, maybe. To your surprise, Sang-woo answered very quickly.

"Er, hello." A smooth voice rang from the other side of the line. Almost immediately all the courage you previously had, had vanished.

"Hi, Sang-woo, I hope you're not busy, I wouldn't want to distrub you." You smiled politely, as if he could see you through the phone. "I was just wondering if you wanted to invite you for a drink tonight? I wanted to talk to you about something."

"Sure, why not." He stopped for a moment, you could hear a lighter flicking in the background. "I can come over at around 8, is that alright?"

"Perfect, okay, I'll see you at 8." You said your goodbyes and hung up. You've known this man for years and he still gave you butterflies, must've been the newly developed feelings.

You were planning to tell him you want things to get serious tonight. You've imagined pretty much every scenario possible, preparing yourself for the worst. You pretty much knew what you were going to say, word-for-word, you've even written it down. You didn't want to mess up, say something wrong or weird him out, so you tried to prepare to the best of your abilities. Was this overkill? Perhaps, but it helped you soothe your anxiety.

He arrived at 8pm sharp, just as he promised, he was always good with time managment. He wasn't in his car, your apartments were within walking distance of each other, but he couldn't drive home drunk anyway. You didn't want to have that conversation sober, you needed to be at least a little bit under the influence, I guess that's why people call alcohol 'liquid courage'.

You opened the door for him, letting him in while you went to get some wine glasses from the kitchen. You were glad to finally see him, when you were with him was pretty much the only time you felt truly happy and at peace, you wished to spend more time together, not just occasionally when you both needed to let off some steam, you wanted real emotional intimacy.

"You look great tonight." He smiled, taking off his jacket. You smiled, pouring both of you a generous amount of red wine. He walked over into the living room and wrapped his hands around your waist as you were setting the bottle down, making you jump a little.

"Sang-woo, I was holding a glass bottle." You laughed, turning around with the two glasses in your hand, handing one to Sang-woo. He gladly took it, taking a sip.

"You know, we're rarely ever at your place." He said, looking around. "Yeah, I guess you're right." He set the glass down and sat down on your couch. "Well, I have a free day tomorrow, so I don't have to rush home tonight." He chuckled.

You made yourself comfortable next to him. "Great, we can take our time." You joked, taking another sip from your glass, hoping the alcohol will soothe your nerves.

"Oh, you said you wanted to talk to me about something, it sounded important." He said raising his eyebrows. You took a sharp breath and set your glass down. "About that," you paused, looking to the side, "I just wanted to ask..." You anxiously picked on the skin on your fingers as you tried to remember the way you were planning to tell him.

"I know we promised each other that this will be just a meaningless friends with benefits situation, but... If I'm being honest, I don't want that anymore." Your palms were sweating as you tried to appear collected and maintain eye conact.

"What do you mean?" He asked, furrowing his eyebrows. "I want us to get serious." you simply said, your neck and cheeks heating up. He, however, looked shocked. He looked down, thinking for a moment. He didn't want it to come to this, but he knew he had to reject you. He hated himself right now, this was his own fault, if he hadn't gotten into this mess, he wouldn't have to reject you right now.

Truthfully, he's developed feelings for you too, he couldn't deny it, but he just couldn't let you in to his wreck of a fucking life. He owed some serious money to some sketchy people, and if that wasn't enough, he was under investigation for fraud. He loved you too much to endanger you like that, he was too far gone, the best thing for you would be him leaving your life completely. He had to let you go. He had to make you hate him, for your own good.

"Look, I'm sorry, but we can't..." He said, looking you in the eyes. "No, I'm sorry, this was stupid, just... pretend I never said this." You said, embarassed, putting your hands on your cheeks.

"I don't know. I'm sorry, but it would be cruel to you to keep this going." He said softly, swallowing a lump in his throat. "What?" You felt your eyes start to sting, on the verge of tearing up. You knew this was a possibility, but this felt so abrupt. "No, please, I'll be fine."

"We can't, I'm sorry. I should go." He said, looking away, trying to hold himself together. He got up, fixing his shirt. "Are we still friends?" You asked, the corners of your mouth twisting downwards as you were trying to fight back tears. "No." He said in a monotone voice, trying his hardest not to look at your crying face.

"How can you end this so quickly? Didn't this mean anything to you?" You got up and turned towards him as he was walking towards the door. "I love you." He shuts his eyes, still facing away from you as he slipped his shoes on. "You're telling me after all this, after years of being friends, you don't feel anything? This was all just meaningless sex to you?"

He took his jacket off your hanger, and finally faced you as you stood there with hot tears streaming down your cheeks. "No, I never loved you." He said, looking you straight in the eyes with his signature poker face. His words felt like a stab in the gut, your face contorting with shock and sorrow as you watched him exit out of your apartment, never to be seen again.

I feel like he's the type to be cold towards everyone except his partner

He does this subconciously, but he gets a little softer around you

He's still not a super emotional guy, but there's a noticable change in attitude

Just like Jun-ho, he's a protective guy

Even though he's generally selfish and prioritizes himself over everyone, he isn't a robot, he feels love

And once he trusts and deeply cares for somebody, he protects them and doesn't let them go

Which is also why he's also relatively possessive, although that has something to do with his ego and selfishness as well, he wants you all to himself
