just got flashbacks of the time when people were comparing catradora to Blake x Adam from RWBY...those were the dark days *shudders*
sure, let's just completely ignore the context of each relationship and compare corrupted Catra fighting Adora in a fucked up portal reality to Adam stalking Blake across Anima to kill her for daring to defy him. Let's just ignore how Catra and Adora grew up together and started from a healthy friendship (as healthy as a friendship made between child soldiers and manipulated by Shadow Weaver can be), and how Adam was an adult who groomed Blake as a minor into being in a romantic relationship with him, leaving her parents, and supporting his violent cause.
Let's ignore how Adam was an abusive asshole to Blake before Blake defected and was a big part of why she defected, and how Adora defected because she was shown the humanity of the Horde's enemies and for her new role as She-ra, and how Catra only spiraled into toxic behavior after Adora left, while under threat of death and torture, and had her portal crash out after being betrayed by Shadow Weaver in favor of Adora.
Let's ignore all of Catra's motivations beyond feeling betrayed by Adora leaving her to die and wanting her back - Catra's ambition, wanting to be equal to Adora, wanting recognition from her abusers, desperately clawing for safety and affection from people who would discard her as easily as a used tissue. How Catra initially protected Adora from Shadow Weaver's wrath, until Light Hope manipulated them further apart. How Catra avoided Adora for the majority of s4 after feeling intense guilt for activating the portal. Let's ignore Adora's feelings towards Catra and how she wished she could have protected Catra and convinced her to join the Rebellion, how she never hated Catra and always hoped she would redeem herself, but wouldn't allow herself to be blamed for Catra's choices ("Now live with it!"). How Adora saw that Catra could still choose to be a good person because they were friends who protected and cared for each other for the majority of their lives. How both of them still loved each other underneath all the pain that was manufactured between them.
Let's ignore how Adam and Blake never had that goodwill between them and how their relationship was predicated on an adult predating on a minor - not a friendship between people of the same age (turned enemies, turned friends again). (not saying that Blake always hated Adam and wanted him to suffer. She saw his life as a tragedy and didn't want to have to kill him)
I am not going to pull any punches here - comparing Catra and Adora to this predatory relationship was incredibly homophobic. These people just wanted an easy, surface-level comparison to disparage SPOP; one that required people to know next to nothing about either relationship. No, the harm between Catra and Adora was not "ignored" because "they're both girls." It was understood by viewers because SPOP thoroughly contextualized their actions, plainly portrayed Catra as in the wrong, and went through pains to redeem her. It's on you if you interpreted Catra as an obsessed stalker, fixated solely on making Adora suffer. It's on you if you stereotyped Catra as a predatory lesbian. That is not what the show presented us.
And no, viewers would not excuse Adam's predatory behavior if he were a woman, especially since we're given the messy (but not abusive or predatory) relationship between Blake and Ilia, and the healthy relationship between Blake and Yang as counterexamples within the text. In fact, I believe that all of those men who defend Adam and despise Blake and Yang for killing him would instead hate Adam if he were a women, immediately jumping to homophobic remarks and tropes instead of approaching the abusive relationship as it was.
Adam was predatory and abusive and Blake just wanted him to leave her alone. Catra and Adora were toxic, primarily due to outside forces (Shadow Weaver & Light Hope) driving them apart, and Adora wanted Catra to live with her own choices and improve. Adora did not want Catra to leave her alone; she wanted Catra to come to her side. And for a time, Catra wanted Adora to leave her alone, so she could prove herself without her and earn Adora's respect as her equal; not some unruly beast which needed to be kept under control. Blake was terrified of Adam. Adora feared Catra would mess up the Rebellion's plans. These relationships are not comparable.

Coco: A girl at Beacon was dressed sóóóóóóó gay. You can't imagine how crushed I was when I found out she's just straight but raised by a lesbian mom. Dykebaiting is real, guys!
Yang: Date her mom?
Blake: Date her mom.
Nora: Date her mom!

"Every good person comes to this conclusion at some point, but nobody's brave enough to do it"
#things Light Yagami would say/has probably said/has definitely thought
there's a kind of person called a "bad person" and if we just kill all of those guys everything will be great

I love how humans have literally not changed throughout history like the graffiti from Pompeii has people from hundreds of years ago writing stuff like “Marcus is gay” “I fucked a girl here” “Julius your mum wishes she was with me” and leonardo da vinci’s assistants drew dicks in their notebooks just for the banter and mozart created a piece called “kiss my ass” so when people wish for ‘today’s generation’ to be like ‘how people used to’ then we’re already there buddy we’ve always been
