I should post a few of the things I've been doing recently. Haven't done enough of that.

Oh, I have a patchwork fix for EEVEE hair I made a few years ago!

Just throw that into a nodegroup and you're mostly good to go! You can also use a Vector Scale node set to -1 instead of a subtract from zero.

The principled BSDF has gone through a few changes since that screenshot, but it still works in the file I have saved. I have roughness set to 0.625 and metallic to 0.0.

It's really not a perfect replacement, but it's a hell of a lot better than eevee's lack of hair BSDF.

And in Blender 4.2, the raytracing smooths it out even better than previous versions (despite losing the contact shadows option)

I should probably see about making an updated nodegroup, since I made this back when 2.8 was released, and I've learned a fair bit since then.

Also, if you got any questions, I'm happy to answer best I can since I've been using blender for at least a decade at this point

Hey! I keep seeing your beautiful little gremlin (dinosaur) animation and I was wondering if you knew of any tutorials on how to make that fur/feather simulation??? It’s so freaking good!

uuuuuuh youtube tutorial search blender particle system fur I haven't found any good ones I had to just figure shit out so all the information I give you may be horrendously wrong

once you've learned how to do it it;s just another skill ou need to get better at, render in cycles if you can eevee isn't that good at fur

and if you have to use eevee go onto your light settings and turn on contact shadows, if it doesn't do anything turn the brightness up it is really the only way to make the fur not look flat in eevee

in eevee yoiu need to do a bunch of shader magic to make hte fur not look plastic good luck and you do find a tutorial on that show me pretty please, in cycles just use principled hair bsdf and you've won

in both engines use hair curves

the simulation itself is a paain make sure your model isn't too small because that can fuck things up, avoid clipping where you can, turn down the collision distance both in the particle system istelf and outer thickness in collision properties, don't put the stiffness or damping too high or low. if it explodes after you do all of that you might be fucked (it's very bad with short fur and objects that are really close to each other, I had to give up when I did my azdarchids wings) if you manage to not make it explode congrats! that is also all I did!

Have some Inkke at different ages.

She caused a lot less problems as a child, but as she learned more and more magic through her teenage years at magic institutions, she got more and more skilled at being an absolute bastard for nearly every authority figure around her.

Now as an adult, she continues that with creating mischief and chaos throughout the region (and world).

Weirdly Specific Artist Ask Game

Didn't see a lot of artist ask games, wanted to make a silly one.

I like to make backgrounds and skyscapes to relax.

And this isn't just a "Oh I don't like this one thing" kind of issue, this is "oh, you changed/removed that. I used that. a lot." about 300 times in a row, or "this part of the program/app/game/etc. doesn't fucking work at all" 60 times in a row before I get fed up and try to fix it, and then another 20 times after I just spent 12 hours fixing the first 10 I saw.

Repeat for every damn piece of software, social media, online service, app, program, and game. I'm getting burned out dealing with broken experiences and half-baked features.

The biggest breath of fresh air recently was Hi-Fi Rush. There was zero bugs, zero tweaking, it just worked. A blissful 30+ hours of content where I can just enjoy an experience instead of trying to do workarounds. It was nice!

y'know, all these little changes to tumblr are gradually wearing away at my will to continue using it.

I know I could write userscripts to revert the changes, but there gets to be a point with a lot of things I use where if I keep having to spend time figuring out workarounds, installing or making modifications, or tweaking configuration to get to an enjoyable or usable state, I'll eventually stop using the thing.

This applies to games like Skyrim, Stormworks, Kerbal Space Program, and Minecraft modpacks, where I keep having fundamental issues with the experience that either takes 6 hours of installing or tweaking mods to fix one issue out of a hundred, or the issues can't even be fixed at all.

This also applies to social media and online services, where I'm getting sick and fed up over having something that does work, then over the course of time the service has to be changed to appease investors or create busywork for devs or some other reasoning, and I keep having to install 15 different addons or userscripts or create my own that undoes those changes.

I just want to go to the freezer, grab some ice cream, and sit on the couch to enjoy it. Not spend 3 hours arguing with the Fridge Gremlin that yes, I do in fact have ice cream in the freezer I can see it's right there, just let me grab it. Quit trying to pretend the freezer is an oven, Fridge Gremlin, I will fucking strangle you.
