The 57 Bus was truly amazing! It is the true story of a horrific incident that forever changed the lives of Sasha and Richard. Richard’s friends dare him to set Sasha’s skirt on fire while they sleep. He does. The book is respectfully written and teaches you about the lives of others. This book was so beautiful!! Arthur is grieving the sudden death of his father. Through a series of events he ends up on probation for throwing a brick at the neighborhood Junk Man. Arthur spends months working with the Junk Man and learning about himself and life in the process. Why is my grading not done? Well, I can’t be expected to grade when I’m reading a book this good. I couldn’t put it down. This book is part narrative and part podcast. Sadie is trying to hunt down her sister’s killer. The podcast is trying to find Sadie. There are lots of twists and turns, plenty of suspense, and an ending that leaves you slack jawed. Wreckage was a very fast-paced read!! Lillian is on a trip of a lifetime with her mother in law when the plane crashes in the South Pacific. The story is written in two perspectives and takes place in the present and in flashbacks to the island where everything happpened. It is a story of survival, love, and difficult choices. What You Hide was a decent read. It’s the story of Mallory who is trying to escape from an emotionally abusive stepfather. Spencer becomes a part of her life and she tries to be independent. There is an additional layer of mystery added when strange writing appears on the library walls. The book is fast paced, but lacks clues to develop the mystery. Wow!!! I don’t usually like graphic novels- I tend to scan too much and lose track of the plot line. This one, though. This story just draws you in and you just hang along for the ride. This isn’t just another story about police brutality. Read this tonight in a couple of hours. It is a fast paced story about a 17 year old author, who is very full of herself. Livvy flips her car in a remote area and ends up being kidnapped and locked it Peg’s basement. Peg is punishing Livvy for some perceived injustice. Will Livvy escape? Who should she fear more: Peg, Flute Girl, or Wesley? And what could she have done to Peg to deserve this treatment? If only I hadn’t figured out the answer to those questions on page 40 (out of 215). I finished this one last night at the kids’ soccer skills evaluations. I purchased it because it is a collection of short stories written by 7th graders. I thought it would be good for my students to read published works by someone their age. I think the stories could be a motivating factor for some of my kids. The problem is that the stories are from 1996 and could be hard for my students to connect to their own lives.
