something something platonic vampire human relationships. the act of drinking should not be reserved for something so frivolous as a title of "romance". our lives are entwined as it is. i would offer you my bleeding heart and trust you'd ask before you'd feed. here it is; take your fill; i told you I would not abandon a friend. maybe it's a little sexy. maybe your still heart's grown accustomed to feeling my beating pulse between your teeth. maybe this is enough. to live my life for you. blood, sweat, tears, and the words "dear old friend" on my lips.

I know that Ashton is complicated and there are a lot of good reasons to be frustrated with them. But I do love them (and Tal) a lot for their premise. Like you know how people like to compare trauma survivors etc with these broken vases that are made whole again by filling gold into the cracks? Sounds familiar? But here is the thing: It‘s a nice image. really. coincidentally it is a narrative that helps „whole“ people feel better about „broken“ people. And it is true that pain is beauty, is destruction, is the ability to invoke strong emotions. But guess what? No fucking trauma survivor ever has asked to be beautiful. And beautiful doesn‘t mean „kind“, doesn‘t mean „wise beyond your years“, doesn‘t mean „resilient“. Besides, I have never seen someone walk up to a physically disabled person saying: „Wow, your prosthesis looks so beautiful! I am sure it makes you better equipped in living in a society that does not carter to your needs at all!“. „Whole“ people are just idealizing that shit so they do not have to admit that they cannot fix trauma, that they cannot understand it and that they have to actually adapt to the needs of „broken“ people. And then comes Ashton. Ashton who is a little eccentric, and grumpy and maybe not wise in the way most people get, but they see the world differently. They have a good heart. But they don’t feel the need to help and be kind to everyone (which some people seem to associate with goodness? Honestly? Do you have no sense of self preservation?). Ashton, who isn‘t made worse by their pain. But also not better. They are simply in pain. And I will forever love them for it.

I’ve never been that into Widomauk but the thought of this does make me feral.
What if they actually do it though. What if they actually make Molly and Caleb not-subtext. Like. What if Molly makes a move. What if Caleb admits he’s interested but he “can’t” because he’s a “garbage person” and Molly deserves better not ready. What if when they all cuddle up for warmth the night before fighting the Shepherds it’s awkward right up until the moment Caleb (so carefully, like he’s scared he’ll shatter) wraps his arm under Molly’s, and then they both melt into each other and hey, maybe it’s going to be okay after all. Maybe that bad feeling doesn’t have to mean anything. Maybe there really are “fresh starts” and maybe they can make a happy ending this time around. Maybe maybe maybe

I love you The Little Mermaid’s queer subtext I love you Hans Christian Anderson I love you Howard Ashman.
If anyone’s interested in another (more explicitly queer) Little Mermaid adaptation: the stage play “Sometimes the Rain, Sometimes the Sea” by Julia Izumi is fucking incredible and I cannot recommend it enough. It also touches on the immigrant experience and gives both the mermaid character AND Anderson himself a happy ending. It’s beautiful.
“Ariel sold her voice for legs just because of a guy“
Meanwhile Ariel with legs;
Ariel already loved the human world long before meeting Eric (you don’t get a collection like hers overnight) and when she finally got a chance to explore it, she took it.
Ursula made it more about Eric than Ariel ever did.

I say this as a literal asexual who doesn’t enjoy watching sex scenes: I will NEVER advocate for the removal of a sex scene just because it portrays people having sex. Everything is intentional. What matters most is the specifics behind the intention, and if the intentions come across clearly.
i think when we used to point out that a story didn't need a sex scene what we meant was "this story reduces its women to mere sex objects and gives them no interiority so the sex scenes are gratuitous and geared towards the male gaze" it wasn't the sex that bothered us per se it was the objectification of female characters while givig them little to no consequence to the overall story but nowadays people mean "sex is icky and gross and has no merit to ever be portrayed in our arts which should be good and pure and never ever make ME feel discomfort" and it's like. i bet a bowl of unfrosted flakes looks real good to you rn

laudna giving ashton the doll is one of the most beautiful moments of all 3 campaigns. like. the vulnerability. the drama. the sweet moment of imogen reaching out to comfort ashton even though she’s still mad. don’t even get me started on the journey of emotions on both matt and ashley’s faces. it’s just perfection
