Leonard Percival Howell, one of the first black men to preach about the Rastafari movement, was also known as “the Gong” which is also short for Gangunguru Maragh. The first name, Gangunguru, meant in three words of the name: Gyan means filled with knowledge and also means wisdom, gun- talent, and guru means teacher or elder. I was having fun completing this painting after hours. It took me a while to come up with a title for the painting but I finally pulled it off. The 18 x 24 canvas acrylic painting of Eric Dolphy is titled, “The Way You Look Tonight”, named after the song from his live album, Eric Dolphy in Europe, Vol. 2. My first art show today was a pretty great one. It was a bit stressful at first but after a while things went well with no problems. I was not only selling some of my artwork but i was also tell them the meaning behind some of my work (like the Chancellor Williams painting for example) and I was able to make sure that they were able to not only support my artwork but also appreciate it as well. I would like to thank the people that came to the art show. Another beautifully and perfectly finished 16x20 canvas painting has been made today. Chancellor Williams the historian and author of The Destruction of Black Civilization, painted in watercolor on a 16x20 stretched canvas by me @qahutchins2/ @africanartofqahutchins2. The people, next to Chancellor Williams, in the painting are Piankhi, Shabaka and some of the other men planning for the third war against the Asian invaders to take back control of all Egypt, and Queen Nzinga with her spear while riding the horse at the bottom after the Pyramids of Giza. Those banners have been represented by concepts such as democracy, capitalism, Marxism, religion, and education. The banners remained constant as long as Blacks were assets.
