John Coltrane “Blue Train” 2xLP. I like jazz. I may even love it. But I have always tried to approach The Jazz with innocence. While I love learning about music, I have taken a purposefully unacademic approach to cultivating my jazz tastes. As such, I am pretty easy to please with the big classics. However, I also appreciate the more dense jazzular expressions as well, but am slightly more selective there. I grabbed this during a holiday sale for thirty-some-odd bucks. Today I was finally in the mood to lavish in its splendor. Since the cover is so beautifully glossy, even on a grey day such as it is in Northeast Ohio, the great room was still flooded with enough natural light to make my normal shot not very easy to capture. So instead I took a picture of our giant Dumb Cane “tree” with the album cover in the shot and got weird with it. And why not? Second picture is my best normal attempt. It was alright but I could still see the reflection of one of the wood ceiling beams and it frustrated me. "On September 15, 1957, John Coltrane went into Rudy Van Gelder's living room studio in Hackensack, New Jersey and recorded his first great masterpiece: Blue Train. It would be the legendary saxophonist's sole album as a leader for Blue Note, a locomotive five-track album fueled by the bluesy title track that featured a dynamic six-piece band with Lee Morgan on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Kenny Drew on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums. To mark the 65th anniversary of the album's recording, Blue Train will be released in two special editions as part of Blue Note's acclaimed Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series."

who do you feel most you around?

when it comes to people i actually spend time with irl, probably my mom. she's basically my best friend and i tell her almost anything, plus she really gets my sense of humor and i can tell jokes around her that the rest of my immediate family wouldn't like.

online, probably my best friends blue (@bluetrainer here on tumblr) and trey (@sf_spector on twitter). not only do my fandom interests align pretty darn well with theirs, but i can always confide in them about personal stuff when i need advice or just someone to listen.

tag someone (or multiple people) who make you feel good. 

i'm not gonna tag blue twice but talking to him always makes my day a little bit better. (even on days when i'm not really up for chatting, i know he'll have a silly little tiktok or meme to share with me that'll put a smile on my face, no matter how cursed it may be, lol.)

what’s something you do to de-stress?

often, it's listening to music or even singing to myself. at least, those help me at night when i need to unwind before bed and clear my head of my stressors. i also really like coloring, though admittedly, despite owning 3 coloring books, i've begun to prefer coloring apps, specifically happycolor. it's basically like a digital paint-by-numbers but it's wonderfully stimulating and gives my hands something to do when i feel particularly fidgety. i love to work on an image on the while listening to music or a podcast.

oh and of course, i can't leave out reading. i'm often distracted by phone stuff and neglect to read for long stretches of time, but i do still love to sit down with a good book and get lost in the story. it's always a great way to relax.

Behold, IMO, the best DJ set I've done. This was recorded live on November 19th, 2021. It deserves some more love and some more plays, cause this is me in my DJ bag here. The set flows very nicely from beginning to end and it's got a vibe to it that's just very hard to describe but easy to feel. Dark, deep, dubby, atmospheric, moody, but hard hitting and funky! I didn't have to go this hard, but I did. I hope you enjoy.
