not adding this to the other post because it's really just a tangent but recently reddit keeps recommending me posts from a subreddit for people in "sexless marriages" and every single one is just men talking about how their evil evil wives won't fuck them and circlejerking over how it's basically abuse to say no to your spouse too often. one guy said he threatened to divorce his wife (who he described as showing really blatant symptoms of both depression and menopause based on the ages given) if she didn't lose weight and was just shocked that she proceeded to get even more depressed. and all the comments are like you should really just divorce the frigid bitch. and then they go on about how men need physical affection more than women and it's just not faaaair when really the only thing i think men need based on what i've seen is a big rock to the skull.

a few months ago i was writing a paper about a play centered around domestic abuse written like 100+ years ago and i was like i'll toss in some facts about when certain forms of domestic abuse were legally recognized and like. idk it's kinda embarrassing that i only found this out recently but did you know marital rape wasn't even illegal in every us state until the fucking 90s. and that a bunch of states still give more lenient sentences to rapists who're married to their victims. and none of this should've surprised me because i grew up in a church where girls as young as 10 were told that their job would be to sexually satisfy their husbands regardless of if they wanted to or not.

it's easy i think if you're surrounded by feminists and generally more progressive folks to forget just how fucking bad it is out there but it is. it is really bad.
