“People will never know how far a little kindness can go.”A blog dedicated to Rachel Scott, the first victim of the Columbine High School massacre on April 20, 1999.
‘Rachel Scott’s dead,’ he said.
Aaron was just giving us a name. He didn’t realize that we both knew Rachel, or that Steve dated Rachel for a long time. When Steve heard the news, he fell silent. Then he collapsed.
No Easy Answers: The Truth about Death at Columbine
and the lack of your presence has never gone unnoticed
the last e i g h t e e n years were filled with
an aching feeling in the hollow cavity of their chests
how they l o n g e d to feel the tips of your fingers
and the texture of your hair
these homes carry the echo of voices
that had died many, many years ago
—in that they hope you’re smiling wherever you are
Beth Nimmo (Rachel’s Mom) : “At times, Rachel was a picky eater. It had been ingrained in me while I was growing up that cleaning my plate at dinner was a major issue. If I didn’t, I would get in trouble. I actually started out parenting Bethanee and Dana with the same rigid rules. By the time Rachel came along, though, I began to change my parenting approach.
There were times when I tried to force Rachel to eat something. On occasion, I would even let her sit in her high chair for hours, and she would usually fall asleep there. Time made no difference to her. She would not eat something unless she wanted to.”
“Finally I thought, Beth, why are you doing this? Why are you making eating such a big, emotional trial for Rachel? If the peanut butter and jelly will fill her up as well as meat and potatoes, then why not give her the peanut butter and jelly?”
As an old active member of the True Crime Community, I thought the community could do with another blog documenting Rachel’s life and her legacy.
There are some beautiful blogs out there already, who make gifs and know a lot about Rachel, but I wanted to add mine to the community too. I wanted this blog to be very organised, so that, if someone was looking for a particular thing about Rachel, they would be able to find it easily here.
Hi! Do you know what Rachel's favorite books were? And do you think she read or would read anything by Francine Rivers?
I’m not actually sure what Rachel’s favourite books were. However, I’m going to tag @racheljoyscott in this, because that blog is a real wealth of information on Rachel’s interests, and her life. I tend to learn a lot from them!
I think Rachel would’ve enjoyed Francine Rivers, if she read any. Having just checked out her books, I think that Rachel would’ve loved the sort of books she writes. I’m not sure how much Christian fiction Rachel read, though.
For anyone who’s interested, Francine Rivers’ books can be found here.
