obsessed with the fact that eddie and buck love in opposite ways that compliment each other:

eddie loves softly, quietly: he puts a hand on buck’s shoulder, grounding; he tells his friends stories about what buck and chris do together; he offers him a beer and advice; he grins fondly and plays along with cheklist-buck; he reassures him that he matters, shows him exactly how much, and to buck? this is everything to buck, whose entire life has been spent trying to fill up awkward, interminable silences with any kind of background noise. eddie comes along and silence becomes tender, comfortable, familial.

but buck loves loudly, because he’s figured love must look like the opposite of whatever his parents had: he smiles bright and open; he teases eddie over his telenovelas; he throws surprise parties and christmas parties; he screams for eddie at the top of his lungs; he digs frantically in the mud; he makes himself at home in eddie’s house; he tells anyone who’ll listen what an amazing father he is, and to eddie? this is everything, because his entire life he’s been trying to meet impossible expectations, do the right thing, yet can never seem to get it right: always failing, never enough. but buck looks at him like he hung the moon and talks about him like he’s personally lassoed the sun into the sky every morning: buck’s love for eddie is so loud it leaves no room for doubts.
