What I’ve been up to

Well... after fighting the inevitable decline in my ability to work and deal with my Fibro, I decided to quit my good, safe, well-paying job for the uncertainty of self employment.  I tried to take a part time job, but it turned into a full time one and the boss was both lgbtqia-phobe and plenty vocal about it and a horrible ableist beast who shamed a co-worker with M.S. to not take her meds before work, because they made her “look like a junkie.” The boss was already stealing tips from folks and making me complicit by adding them to my tips without my knowledge. I found out, after she took me aside to tell me what a good job I was doing and how I was better than everyone else.  It rankled me terribly, she’d already given me a big raise. It made me feel dirty and terrible. So, I quit. As a result, I have been doing some consulting for a couple local businesses to me in my small town, but it isn’t really enough money to make ends meet. Which has left me to make good on some of my creative threats about how to make money enough to support myself.  I started two podcasts. One is personal, to me and my weirdness, perhaps an oral history curation of the sometimes odd shit I post here on my personal blog along with interviews with friends about pop culture, politics etc.  The other is called “Handmaids&Harlots” and I am doing it with @andijelly. It is a weekly podcast about “The Handmaid’s Tale” on Hulu and “Harlots” on Hulu.  Neither is currently monetized, my personal one because I can’t think of anyone who’d pay to hear me talk about my opinions. Most people I know get them for free anyway. “Handmaids&Harlots” however, is likely to start taking “Listener Support” if we can break the Audience size of 100. We’re about half way there. Listener Support will simply be a donation on the honor system.  And finally, next week I am launching a live Tarot Stream via Twitch. It will be every other day: Mon/Wed/Friday during the week, for three/four hours. I haven’t settled on hours, but all feeds will be posted via youtube after they’re finished.  Coinciding with the Twitch Stream, I am opening up a Patreon. The rewards and tiers are well set up I think, @seraphai helped me put that together. Eh

I felt like creating today, but then I came here. I look at my feed, I look at my discord conversations, I go to my WordPress and I am overcome by a feeling of wrath and disappointment that chokes. I guess I am carrying around some stuff mentally, emotionally that is poisoning the well. It is hard not to be resentful, even when I am well aware that it is myself who put expectations upon situations and people. Those expectations are problematic for a lot of reasons.  We’re all responsible for our own expectations. We create them based upon desires, based upon our own understandings of things and personal values. But no one is required to meet them, even if they suggest that they are able. I’ve found out repeatedly, (so apparently I am self-abusive and dense) that people rarely if ever meet our expectations, except of course when we expect them all to let us down and not be as “advertised.” For me, this is a big red flag that I need to blast everything back to the foundations and figure out how to rebuild or even if I should rebuild, want to rebuild or have the resources to rebuild. It blows. But, heh... that’s life right?

Feeling foolish

I feel really foolish. All this work I’ve done on migrating tumblrs and leveling my main and tonight, to be absolutely honest, I am wondering why I bothered. Part of me wants to just cash in the chips, drop both subs, hand off or disband my guild and walk away from it all. I don’t know if it is just a mood crash, or I am am finally sick and tired of the state of my role play and just too tired and too jaded to do anything about it.

The Howling Owl - Poetry & Story Night

Calling all poets, storytellers and coffee lovers!

The Howling Owl is a premier faction neutral coffee shop located in Pandaria and owned by Alaris Sunspell and Romarique Valeriant. Each month we host an event that allows our patrons to recite poems, tell stories, or even share music for the others in attendance to enjoy. These can be original works or can simply be their favorites. Real world adaptations are fine too!

Location: The Howling Owl (Mistfall Village, Vale of Eternal Blossoms, Pandaria)

We will be in the main tavern, the biggest building!

When: Friday, January 11th, Doors will open at 6PM WrA server time

Drinks and snacks will be served until 6:30PM when readings will start. Afterward, drinks and food will be served again. Feel free to mingle and stay as long as you like!

All races, factions and other servers are welcome!
