I always find it interesting that Dean is almost surprised when Castiel heals him when they’re not on the best of terms.

I think Dean is so used to feeling conditional love, that he doesn’t understand what unconditional love means or how it’s presented .

I think he felt like John would only love him if he was the strong, obedient soldier, who took care of his little brother. So whenever he and Cas weren’t on good speaking terms, he didn’t expect kindness.

I don’t think we talk enough about that aspect of Dean.

15x18 fix-it in which Dean realizes what's happening, Cas made a deal triggered by a moment of happiness — so he schools his face to hold back the tears and hardens it as he says "What the hell are you doing? We are friends, or so I thought! That you can think... I'm human, what can we share? You're an angel, what do you know about love?!" and Cas just BREAKS, because of course he's going to believe it. Dean looks back at the Empty barging into the room and delivers his last blow "...There's nothing for you here."

What can the Empty do? Cas is not happy, he's the most broken he's even been, in fact. It takes Billie, done. In the silent bunker, Dean finally breathes, then turns around and kisses the life out of Cas, tears and all. When Cas pulls back, confused and raw, Dean who's equally dazed goes "...I lied."

It's so funny that in the show full with magical beings and gods and demons but the fandom is so obsessed with a human calling himself "Hob". Like hell yeah he is just a guy, a totally normal dude, just a college professior but if anything trying to harm him fucking Dream of The Endless will appear in your house and send you into the realm of darkness.
