I had made a fic for Rain Code Week’s prompt (Relationship), my favorite element and theme of the game.
Though spoilers for the whole game. Don’t read it until you have completed it.
Basically what if Post-Game Yuma had stayed to talk with his friends about what happened behind the scenes?
Brace yourself, it has 7.1K+ words in the fic.

Detective
Word Count: 562 Prompt: Truth Featured Characters: Yuma Kokohead A/N: I've been writing around Yuma for all of these drabbles, but I haven't written about him directly. I figured this prompt was the chance to do so! This means I didn't get a drabble really featuring Vivia, but I honestly don't know if I would have been able to write him well, so it's not a real loss. Maybe by next year I'll have him down! In any case, here's to Yuma, a hell of a protagonist! (Spoilers abound, sorta.) @raincodeweek
He couldn't quite remember how he came to Kanai Ward, though he could deduce with ease that he had made it here by train. It was difficult to ascertain just how long the gap in his memory extended, though judging by the city's atmosphere, it was long ago to finally uncover Kanai Ward's Ultimate Secret. Maybe even the Great Global Mystery. Such a shame that he couldn't remember what the truth had been.
That was the only miscalculation in an otherwise flawless plan. Of course, he could easily deduce the answers by perusing the news and asking around the city. But if he'd solved the mystery, remembering how he did so would be the feather in his cap. If only he knew where the Book of Death was, or the god inside it. Maybe he'd be able to make a contract of some sort to regain the memories of his time under the other contract.
But that was impulsive, and he wasn't inclined to such behavior. Then again, resigning from the WDO had been a bit rash. He'd heard whispers of the WDO Headquarters coming under attack. Was the man who'd acted as his body double alright? Perhaps that would be the next mystery to tackle.
The smell of ramen briefly distracted him, and he wandered toward the source of the smell. There, he saw Yuma Kokohead. He raised his eyebrows as he took in the sight. So the rookie detective had made a place for himself in this city. And quickly, too. Interesting. The man looked up from his place behind the counter, his eyes widening briefly at the sight of him. But Yuma didn't react beyond that. Perhaps he should tell the rookie that he could be himself again. Although it seemed the ramen shop was fulfilling enough. What a lucky man.
Neon lights and rain blurred around him as he made his way to the train station. He would have to leave the city. There was an urgency in his blood—no, his heart. Whatever his goal had been here, it had been accomplished, even if he had no memory of it. Anyone he had met here would surely be wondering where he was, but he had more mysteries to solve. There was always a mystery to solve.
It was a tough job, trying to create a world where everyone is happy.
And yet, though it wasn't the sunshine he'd hoped uncovering Kanai Ward's Ultimate Secret, there was a certain level of happiness to be sensed here. Not that he could remember exactly why that was, but he had a feeling it had to do with him and the other Master Detectives who had been here. Someday, he would have to thank them.
For now, he would have to content himself with the next mystery. Slowly but surely, he was going to achieve the global happiness he wished for. He no longer had the Book of Death, but he would find other means to solve the mysteries. He'd done it before. Surely he'd be able to do it again.
Stepping into the station, he made his way to the train. It was time to start recovering the truth behind Kanai Ward, but more importantly, to see what new mystery such revelations would lead to. For where one truth was uncovered, another remained hidden. Such was the way of a detective.

Wingman
Word Count: 562 Prompt: Relationships Featured Characters: Desuhiko Thunderbolt (mainly), also Vivia Twilight & Fubuki Clockford & Halara Nightmare A/N: The title is probably misleading as to what this is about. I figured Desuhiko was the best focus for "relationships" considering his flirting and all, but despite that, I actually went in a completely different direction. So this is kind of like my epilogue to the epilogue, with Desuhiko kind of tying everyone together, because in the end, I feel like he was the most capable of it after Yakou and Yuma. @raincodeweek
Desuhiko let out a long, dramatic sigh as he stared out the train window. The adventure in Kanai Ward had finally come to an end, and he wasn't much closer to becoming a superstar detective. "This blows," he muttered.
He glanced over at the other Master Detectives. Only Fubuki looked as downtrodden as he did. Then again, Halara and Vivia barely seemed human most days, so that wasn't much of a surprise. They could at least stand to look the part of people who had mysteriously lost their friend and discovered a horrible dark secret at the heart of a city.
Yuma. The ultimate wingman and friend. Though they had short stature in common, Desuhiko had thought himself above the rookie detective. Along the way, the kid had proven himself more than worthy of the title of Master Detective, though, honestly? Desuhiko couldn't remember half of why he respected the guy so much. Probably had something to do with Kurumi, but his head got all fuzzy every time he tried to think about it.
Noting that the train car was empty save for everyone from the WDO, Desuhiko said loudly, "So what's the plan for getting Yuma back?"
Vivia grumbled something incoherent, most likely followed by, "I wanna die someday." What a buzzkill. But Desuhiko knew that in a pinch, Vivia would be there. Maybe. Honestly, he was a little unclear how Vivia felt about them all, but Desuhiko trusted him. Sorta. At least, he wouldn't have the urge to ruin his reputation by Disguising as him.
Fubuki had a determined look on her face, and Desuhiko briefly thought that she'd say something genius—and then she opened her mouth. "We should look everywhere for him."
"Yeah, princess, that was the plan. But we should probably be more specific. Right, Halara?"
"How much money do you have?"
Of course. Desuhiko hit the side of his head with his fist. "Really, Halara? Even to find Yuma?"
"I don't work cheap."
When he glanced over, Halara almost looked asleep. If Desuhiko blinked, he could see them in Chief Yakou's chair, feet propped up on the desk. It had been a temporary assignment, pending their solving the mystery of Kanai Ward, but still. There had been some good times.
"Well, there goes our best shot. I guess we start at Headquarters and work our way from there." Desuhiko frowned. "Or, I guess just me."
"I will assist you, Desuhiko!" Fubuki declared, but that didn't really make him feel better. Okay, it did. But he wasn't going to tell her that!
"I wanna die someday," Vivia reiterated, and Desuhiko groaned. These guys were impossible! No wonder Chief Yakou and Yuma had always seemed so stressed out!
He admitted, "I just… I can't stand the thought of not paying him back. He saved our butts somehow. I gotta pay him back."
There was silence among them for a moment, save for the sounds of the train. Finally, Halara spoke, and Desuhiko's head shot up. "Well… he does still owe me quite a debt."
"He did find the truth…" Vivia added quietly, almost as if he was sleep-talking.
"Then let us find our good friend, Yuma!"
Desuhiko grinned, his resolve renewed in light of his friends' enthusiasm (or at least their version of it). My man, you better be alright when we find you. I still need my apprentice!

Pieces
Word Count: 662 Prompt: Ultimate Secret Featured Characters: Yakou Furio A/N: Like the previous drabble, this one takes some liberties. Of course, I am highly referencing Yakou's DLC story "Thank You, My Detective," so there are probable spoilers ahead. This is what I hope happened after the end of that story. (I totally didn't cry during the DLC, promise.) @raincodeweek
He had no idea where he was. Frankly, he wasn't even sure what he was. If there was anything death had done, it had made him realize that everything he thought he knew was dust in the wind.
Yakou couldn't remember if the sight of his wife was real, or if it was all in his muddled head. He did know that he wasn't quite the same as he was, although the revelation that he was essentially some monster had something to do with that. Though that was a hard pill to swallow, in some sick way, it made sense. Really, he was a detective. How had he not thought the pink blood was weird? How could a whole city collectively have a weeklong gap in their memory?
With a groan, he lifted a hand to his forehead. He had his wife to thank, of course, for being at least a little more alive than he had been, but the headache was nothing to sneeze at. It had been a while since he'd thanked his wife, but he supposed he should do that, one last time. "Thank you," he murmured hoarsely.
Now… how the hell was he going to get out of here?
It was a struggle to get his simultaneously numb and aching limbs to function. But eventually, they responded, allowing him to be upright for the first time in, what? Hours? Weeks? How long had it taken for his wife's pill to work? More importantly, how long had he been down here, in the belly of this lab?
The one thing he knew to do was avoid the beams of sunlight breaking in through the dilapidated building. Just being within a few meters of the light made him sweat. Ah… sweat. So he was alive. Interesting.
Past the belly of the beast was the cloning machine where he and the rest of Kanai Ward had been created. It was all too futuristic, even for a technology mogul like Amaterasu. Creepy, too. If the appearance of the machine had anything to do with the failure of the research, no wonder it had all gone sideways. He wondered what his wife would have to say about that.
His footsteps echoed through the lab, but neither the strange old guy nor Dr. Huesca reacted much to his presence. That was either a good sign, or a bad one. He vaguely remembered Yuma's voice questioning the men, trying to piece together the puzzle. And handing him the DVD that held the key to it all… had he been helpful, even beyond death? He hoped so.
If Yakou remembered correctly, and he wasn't sure he did, Huesca had been the one contracted to do the homunculus experiments. He didn't have all the pieces himself, but he sure hoped Yuma had found them. Now he just had to find Yuma.
After an endless amount of stairs and walkways, he finally took his first step outside since he'd died. Huh. What a strange thing to think about. It was raining, of course, but his hood was already up, so he barely felt it as he picked his way down the path that led to the factory. There was an ominous feeling in his chest about the building, though he wasn't quite sure why that was. It had something to do with the fact that he wasn't fully human, but that was about all he knew.
Yakou stopped in front of the door, his hands in his pockets. He wasn't sure how he was going to leave this particular district, but the first step was, quite literally, through this door. If he came back in here, he'd be able to piece together the rest of Kanai Ward's strange history. Maybe he'd even be able to find the Master Detectives and tell them he was sorry for everything he put them through. Maybe he'd see Yuma again.
For the first time since that day in Amaterasu's lab, he smiled.

Fissure
Word Count: 494 Prompt: Mystery Labyrinth Featured Characters: Shinigami A/N: Some major liberties have been taken with this one. It's simply a theory of what might have happened after we leave Shinigami. I'm probably totally wrong, but all I can hope is that Kodaka won't come after me, haha. Anyway, I love Shinigami, and though she's not quite my top favorite (more like second from the top, perhaps), I wanted to give her something to make up for that ending. Here's to our favorite death god! @raincodeweek
All alone again. As a death god was meant to be.
It was boring as hell. HA! HELL!
Nothing was mysteriful anymore. Shinigami knew it was because she'd given Yuma the out. Was it so wrong that she'd hoped, somewhere deep down, that he wouldn't take it? That it would just be the two of them, trying to find a way out of the Mystery Labyrinth? Find a way around reaping the soul of the culprit? Out of everyone she had ever formed a contract with, he had definitely been her favorite. Even if their entire relationship was based on a lie.
She sighed, twirling a strand of her pink-and-white hair. There was no point returning to the Book of Death. It was unlikely anyone interesting was going to open it now. After Yuma, there was no one who was going to be quite so entertaining.
If a death god was capable of love, Shinigami liked to think she had found something akin to it in Yuma.
Floating over to the entrance of the Mystery Labyrinth, Shinigami touched down on the ground for the first time in centuries. It felt weird, putting all of her weight on her feet. She turned to the Labyrinth and stared up at it. The manifestation of Kanai Ward's Ultimate Secret. What would happen to this place, now that all had been revealed? She hadn't reaped Makoto's soul, but surely this labyrinth would have to disappear now that the truth had been revealed?
Wait a minute.
Shinigami summoned her scythe and stared at it. She tapped the blade on the ground beneath her feet. A fissure appeared at the point of contact. With a grin, Shinigami leapt into the air, swinging the scythe up, up, up—and with a violent swing down, she hit the labyrinth with as much force as she could. Much like the fissure below her, the entire labyrinth, including the giant skull affixed to the front, cracked right down the middle. She cheered as the Mystery Labyrinth collapsed, along with all of the secrets that only she and one other person remembered. A third would only remember if the universe decided it was right.
What a shame that she had a tendency to ignore the universe.
She rested her scythe on her shoulder and watched the Labyrinth crumble into nothingness. There was no point in a Mystery Labyrinth that had been solved, for the most part, where the truth had been revealed to the entirety of Kanai Ward. Kanai Ward's Ultimate Secret was not quite so secret anymore. It never would be again. Not after everything Yuma had done to find the truth.
"Guess I'll have to take a peek in the human world," she mused to herself. "Though I might want to find a different outfit. Would hate for Master to recognize me right away."
If Shinigami had anything to say about it, all hell was about to break loose. In a good way.

Forward
Word Count: 532 Prompt: Forensic Forte Featured Characters: Fubuki Clockford, Desuhiko Thunderbolt (brief) A/N: It is actually super unfair how great Fubuki is. I know Shinigami wasn't a big fan of her, and Yuma clearly had no idea how to talk to her, but for real, I adore her. Frankly, any character who can make me laugh from being goofy is always an A+ in my book. And since she canonically has one of the most impressive Fortes in the world of Rain Code, naturally I wanted to write about her. It's a bit of a challenge trying to emulate her, especially with her unique dialogue, but I tried my best! @raincodeweek
Fubuki Clockford was lauded as a Master Detective with one of the most powerful Forensic Fortes out there. Theoretically, that should have put undue pressure on even the most normal of Master Detectives.
She was anything but normal.
Some part of her definitely knew that her Forte was a thousand in one—that was how the phrase went, yes? A part of her certainly surmised the importance of such things. That did not mean the gears had completely turned in the clock of her brain. While instinctually, she knew precisely the importance of her power, she was also completely unaware of it. A juxtaposition. An irony.
Her power was useful in many ways, but it was also useless. She could not turn back time far enough to prevent the accidents she witnessed. Nor could she prevent death from taking the lives of the victims whose cases she took on. Sometimes, Fubuki wondered what use such a power was, if she could not use it for these things. She couldn't even turn back time to find Yuma and ask him why he had suddenly left Kanai Ward.
Although her task was done and she could leave this rainy city, she still didn't quite understand. Yes, she had written down information about the homunculus research, but she hadn't quite processed it. Based on what Desuhiko, Halara, and Vivia had discussed shortly after Kanai Ward's Ultimate Secret was revealed, everything here had something to do with Yuma… but what? She couldn't be sure, no matter how many times Desuhiko tried to explain.
She pondered the clock necklace around her neck, the physical manifestation of her power. If only she could turn back time and figure out why Yuma had left by herself. It was harder for her to understand things unless she had discovered them. While Yuma or Desuhiko talking things through with her certainly helped, it wasn't the same.
Closing her eyes, Fubuki pondered activating her Forte. She remembered the way Yuma would have to hold her hand to borrow her power, or at least be aware of its effects. Could she use her power to find him, if she tried hard enough?
Naive as she was, even Fubuki knew that wouldn't happen. Instead of moving backward, she would have to move forward if she wanted to find Yuma, wherever he had gone. If only her power allowed her to leap forward in time as well as leap backward.
"Fubuki! It's time to go." Fubuki turned and saw Desuhiko waiting, his arms crossed. He was small next to his backpack, but Fubuki had always thought he took up more space than his appearance let on.
"Do you think we will find him, Desuhiko?" she asked sadly, approaching her friend slowly.
"Sure we will. We're two of the best detectives the WDO has! If we can't find him, no one can."
That made a smile spread across her face. He was right. "Then let us go. Finding Yuma will be like finding a pebble in a hayshed!"
The corners of Desuhiko's mouth twitched, and he sighed. "Yeah, Fubuki. It sure will be."
Fubuki practically skipped after her friend, already imagining their reunion with their dear friend.

Day 3: Forte of Rain Code Week

Hat Trick
The Forte of Maximus Wellington, he is able to take out anything missing or hidden from places and crime scenes.
Even though he is able to take out things, he's not able to take out any living things or large objects. Only small and non-living ones.
His pet dove, Terry, resides in the hat. But not in the pocket dimension that his forte uses the hat for. It has a accustomed home of it's own there.
