feel like gushing ab p4 today so here’s that, vague spoilers for p4 and 5 also warning for grooming maybe???:

I absolutely ADORE the accomplice ending. I know most people really don’t like it, but I am totally in love with it, partially bc I’m a diehard Adachi fan. To me, the accomplice ending really ties into the way I think of the persona protags (only 3 4 and 5 I’m a loser okay); they’re just a bunch of traumatized teenage boys who are constantly being betrayed and facing the absolute worst things imaginable. I think the accomplice ending is so interesting specifically because of the unique bond that Yu and Adachi have. Obviously Yu is a silent protagonist, so you can’t infer too much, but I think it’s fair to say that that he cares a lot for Adachi. The persona kids don’t tend to have many good adult role models (plus my theory that Yu and Akira were severely neglected by their parents before the games but shhh), so it only makes sense that Yu might latch onto the first adult (besides Dojima) that gives him any kind of positive attention. Now, I totally get why most people don’t like the accomplice ending, because yeah, it doesn’t really make sense for Yu to betray the IT for no reason, but I always saw it differently. I always saw it as Yu still being attached to Adachi, even after all he’s done. It makes sense, at least to me, for a traumatized teenager to latch onto someone who used to be a positive force in their life, even if they are no longer that positive force. It reminds me a lot of grooming tactics; the way that someone can worm their way into your life and you’ll still want them there even after they’ve done terrible things to you.

TLDR; to me, the accomplice ending is really just Yu still being attached to someone he used to see as a good, decent person.
