this is kinda brilliant
Okay I’m going to start this by saying that I haven’t rewatched the explanation for the ‘echoes’ so I might be remembering it wrong but
What if there are no echoes? What if every single one is just Clara? What if echoes of her weren’t sent anywhere to save him but she is and the echoes thing was just the best that they (the Doctor and Clara) could think up at the time?
I mean, Clara has a TARIDS now. She can go anywhere in time and space. She could be making conscious decisions that she needs to go somewhere to keep him safe. Or, and I actually like this one more, her TARDIS could be taking her there. We have a president for it (“I might not always take you where you want to go, but I take you where you need to go” from ‘The Doctor’s Wife). Maybe her TARDIS knows where she needs to be/go in order to save him.
She has to die on Trap Street so she can’t die anywhere else, which means that she can throw herself into the line of fire. She can ‘die’ for him.
Let’s look at the two ‘echoes’ we know the story of. In Clara’s first episode we find out that she’s actually a Dalek. Well, the Doctor never looked inside the casing. Her whole human body could have been in there controlling it and he just didn’t know (as in “The Witch’s Familiar".) In “The Snowmen” she was a governess and a barmaid. The Doctor himself commented on the babysitting connection, and from the last episode we know she can act at being a waitress. This would also explain why she knew that ‘Pond’ would get him to come running.
And what happens after? After the planet blows up or her body is buried or whatever else Clara has to act at to keep the Doctor safe? Me comes in to get her. Me can operate their TARDIS, too. She could materialize their TARDIS around the Dalek shell or inside of Clara’s ‘coffin’. Me can come in and rescue Clara from the consequences that come up. And Clara doesn’t have to worry that she might not because, even if Clara ever doubts their friend/relationship, Me is invested in getting Clara back to Trap Street.
And when they’re not saving the Doctor they can be having their own adventures.
I know it doesn’t fit perfectly, but I like it.

The greater fool is actually an economic term. The greater fool is a patsy. For the rest of us to profit, we need a greater fool, someone who will buy long and sell short. Most people spend their lives trying not to be the greater fool; we toss him the hot potato, we dive for his seat when the music stops. The greater fool is someone with the perfect blend of self-delusion and ego to think that he can succeed where others have failed. This whole country was made by greater fools.

Maggie is working out and you know the stage direction that I put into the script was that she’s in the gym, she’s doing these sit ups just inhaling strength and and power and confidence and exhaling every rotten thing that’s happen to her in the last few years. This season we are gonna track Maggie’s strength and she really becomes her own person, very strong, very competent. -Aaron Sorkin
