SPOILER WARNING FOR THE UGLY STEPSISTER & TRIGGER WARNING (textual reference to nasty/unpleasant actions)

i really liked the ugly stepsister, because in this movie showed really gray characters, whose motives and actions cannot be characterized only by white or black. each did something right or something wrong, at some point you feel pity, at another — a sharp misunderstanding of why the decision was exactly like that. i think this is a pretty good feature for a movie, where we actually see the lines of two heroines and will involuntarily compare them.

elvira is a striking example of misogyny because of which a person climbs out of his skin, just to match them. she did many horrific things, from a nose operation with eating a worm, to chopping off her fingers just to look like an unattainable, impossible ideal that society instills in her to achieve a goal (specifically in her case — a prince, whom she obviously romanticized and wanted to marry even before all the manipulations began).

agnes is an example of a girl who does not want to be subjected to misogyny, does not want to adapt to standards, but who has to accept them and live according to them in order to improve her situation. being in poverty, unable to properly bury her father, literally being a servant in her own house, being in one cage with a couple of moves she found herself in a richer, golden cage.

both are traumatized, both, obviously, did not get the happiness they wanted. one never married a prince, the other never buried the father she loved. one, having suffered through trying to conform, exhausted and empty, went into a new life with her sister; the other, who didn't want to uphold the standards, became part of it.

can each be understood? absolutely so. is one of them a brighter heroine in the depths of darkness? hardly.

Just saw a video analysis about if the Scooby gang could beat Light Yagami. I wasn’t worried about the gang but I didn’t realize how cooked Light was. Velma alone is way smarter than L, Freddy would instantly see through the trapped drawer that hid the Death Note and Scooby is such a wildcard overall, who is immune to the Death Note because he isn’t human. So even if he gets the rest of the gang, Scooby is coming with a vengeance.

Funniest scenario is Shaggy and Scooby trailing Light only to be confronted by him. Light tries to kill Shaggy but can’t because he would never just give away his name as “Norville Rogers.” Light thinks Shaggy is some genius playing fourth-dimensional chess with him.
