The Remains of the Day
I finished the audiobook 10 minutes ago and I have found myself once again interacting with a devastating piece of missed connection media. The 8-year-old ratking in my mind bucks at the idea that the right choice for someone could be letting "their person" pass them by so I have to lay down on the floor for a little.
I really loved this book and I actually think there was some additional benefit to listening to it (Simon Prebble, you son of a bitch). Prebble narrated with a perfect British butler accent and then his voice cracks ever so slightly at "Indeed - why should I not admit it? - at that moment, my heart was breaking."

I immediately started crying and kept going until the end. I was incredibly impressed that Ishiguro still managed to leave me with a glimmer of hope after personally climbing out of the Libby app to rip my heart out of my chest. The entirety of the final entry was beautifully written. I will be haunted by Stevens saying "Goodness knows, I've tried and I've tried, but it's no use. I've given what I had to give. I gave it all to Lord Darlington." My chest hurts even typing it out.
Damn.
Wishing Stevens a happy retirement <3

Almost done with The Remains of the Day
Went in blind on this one and I was NOT expecting this to be so relevant to the current political climate.

Went back to my copy to find this passage. I annotated it back in high school. I’ve been finding myself going through my old books recently.

oh-
if you told me in 2016 liberal darling Ta-Nehisi coats would in 8 years be saying publicly that he could not see the police who died in 9/11 as human and he would join Hamas if he grew up in Palestine I would've thought you were crazy

Full analysis incoming.
Must a show be “good”? Is it not enough to be an alternative history that asks “what if instead of the Catholic-Protestant schism causing complications in Tudor England, it’s Animorphs?” that’s super horny on main, has the vibe of A Knight’s Tale, surprisingly pretty accurate historical costumes (with a few notable exceptions), and a bunch of British character actors acting absolutely wild?

Should I bother with the tandem read for Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn or is that stupid and not worth my time. (please say stupid and not worth my time)
FINISHED QUEEN OF SHADOWS
Okay, I won't lie. Sarah's got me a little hooked. Thank god the love triangle is over because I am locked in to crazy magic war time. Also I want to see Rowan and Aelin freak it crazy style.

Dignity in The Remains of the Day
Progress: ~33%
I am currently about halfway thought the audiobook for Kazuo Ishiguro's Remains of the Day and I cannot stop considering Stevens' rumination on what makes a truly great butler. In particular, Stevens' discussion of dignity and his admiration for his father's work. At this moment, I have just ended my junior year in college and I'm facing a choice that I have been putting off since high school.
I have made all my educational and career choices around making safe, smart choices. I have left my creative, riskier interests to be side work and hobbies. In school I have been able to explore those interests in a more serious capacity and the pride I feel in that work is difficult to ignore. Hearing anyone talk about their work with that much passion reminds me that I don't love math. I enjoy it enough. I could find a good job and probably be content. This dumbass butler Stevens has me contemplating in the club.

I MADE IT PAST THE EXECUTION !!
My professor has leant me My Lady Jane which he is borrowing from the local library. I have been obsessed with getting my hands on this book ever since watching the now-cancelled series on Prime and learning that this is a whole series of books about historical, fictional, and completely made up Janes and Marys written by three authors. I simply must know what happens to Lady Jane Grey in the book beyond her execution because, unlike the real Jane Grey, this Jane Grey survives. There’s something so intriguing about fanfiction written about real, actual history.
