It's so funny how I got into anthropology in college, frequently talking about the importance of storytelling in culture and how it shapes who we are... and yet it took until my mid-30s to realize that I was allowed to tell stories.

We live in a culture that devalues and commodifies folk culture. So please: tell stories badly, sing off-key, paint something awful.

We need to bring creativity back to being focused on people, connection, community.

Not just something to consume and demand.

Since watching Arcane I've come to love Viktor so much, he's an amazing character and honestly I love how he's portrayed because I think there's so much detail to him? There are many aspects of him that I love, but I think the one I like the most it's how his disability it's showed because it defines many aspects of him. Of course people with disabilities aren't just defined by that but as someone who doesn't have a disability diagnosed it's made me pay attention to many things that had made me realize two things.

First, that I might be disable. And second, how many people go through unmeasurable pain everyday thinking it's normal?

I've been dealing with chronic pains since I was about 12 years old, caused by a broken bone that never received the proper care. Since then things have gotten only worse over the years, not only in that one specific injury but also on all the other injuries that I've had during my teen years. Injuries that I know will leave me with a disability on the long run, some of which are probably starting to take a huge toll on me as of now even if I'm only 21. Fuck, I haven't even finished college and my wrist pain it's so bad I can't even write sometimes. My life has barely started, there's so many things to do and create and yet most days I can't pick up a pencil to draw without ending in so much pain that I can barely move my wrist for the next week or so. Everytime this happens I am reminded of how fleeting my time is and how little I can do while I'm here. So seeing that in Arcane, when Viktor it's starting to succumb to his illness, was like a punch in the guts.

Just this Monday I had an experience that made me realize I am NOT fine. Having to run from the police when I'm having some of the worst leg pain I've had in ages was not funny at all and now I can't stop thinking of how many things I used to do and I am going to lose as this gets worse.

I know this is just a dumb rant mostly about myself but I can't stop thinking about Viktor in one way or another because I share that same frustration. Seeing that portrayal of his pain and how he's being slowly consumed by it has made me think for the first time how much I am actually being consumed by my own.

You know how Viktor sometimes gets this superpower, when he can just ignore the fact that he can’t move without a cane or a crutch?

People with mobile disability do not forget about their pain. And I believe people with any other don’t do either, but I can only speak for the mobile type. We do not fuck through it because the sex is so great. We groan and stop having sex in the middle because with pain it sucks. Our dicks go soft and our vulvas dry out at the pang of pain, especially when it comes in the spine/legs area.

Our partners have to be mindful, careful, present and attentive. They don’t get the luxury of losing themselves, they have to listen, observe and pay attention because a lot of things can be misread during sex. They have to make sure we are alright after.

Did you ever get a cramp during sex? Multiply it by an impossible number and then it’s still probably not good enough.

So yeh, Viktor can’t just abandon his cane and lift someone up. He will probably drop his cane by accident and then lean his entire body weight on you. ‘His leg hurt but he ignored it because the pleasure overwhelmed the pain’. No bitch, he fucking pulled out and asked for a breather, his dick flopped and now he needs a cuddle. Own it. It’s HUMAN. It’s cool. It’s beautiful.

Write about his cane, make it good looking, make the crutch in the colours of house Tallis, describe the braces, I wanna read it! It’s not boring!

And for the record - this is not an angry rant, I just have a big mouth. Love you all people who create art and send it to the world, it’s awesome. Don’t be afraid to explore something you don’t know, just imagine yourself when you had the worst flu of your life, the worst food poisoning of your life, when you were so hungover you wanted to cut off your head, when you fell off your bike and your ass hurt for a week and think if you wanted to have wild sex on the floor. Nah.
