do you still say reading is one of your favorite activities/hobbies even though you haven’t actually read in months but you used to read like a book a day when you were younger so much so that it became a personality trait and now you for some reason cannot for the life of you make yourself read but you’re still emotionally attached to that part of you and hope by speaking it into existence you’ll someday rediscover that happy version of yourself or are you normal?

There are so many volunteer opportunities that you can participate in without having to leave the sanctuary you call home! Here are some websites I discovered that I use to rack up those volunteer hours. 

Smithsonian Digital Volunteers

The Smithsonian Transcription Center asks for volunteers to transcript various of old documents into a digital form. This is by far the easiest way to volunteer where you do not really need any special skills to help.

United Nations (UN) Volunteering Service

There are various of opportunities to help using your particular skill set including: art and design, translation, writing and editing, outreach and advocacy, teaching and training, research, project development and management, technology development and a whole lot more!

This website is a unique search engine to find volunteer projects and organizations. 

Translators without Borders

If you are bilingual, this is for you! Translators without Borders asks to transcript a document from one language to another. So it is ideal to be fluent in that language.

However, you do have to fill out a Translator Application Form before you can volunteer. Here is the form. 

Zooniverse

Calling all STEM majors! All of these volunteer projects can give you a taste of researching that require no history of research experience. This is a great way to dip your feet into the research aspect of many fields. Honestly, this does not seem like you are “working” and is a lot of fun. 

Project Gutenberg

Project Gutenberg is similar to Smithsonian Digital Volunteers in producing and transcripting eBooks.

07.27.2020 | my uni had all 6,000 of its students try to log into a website at the same time this morning, and it did not work out very well. i had to wait 2 hours to finally get on the site :,0 i hope your mornings went a lot better HAHA
