Some scrapped thumbnails…

Here are a few of the thumbnails that didn’t make the cut! Some were rejected by my editor, others just didn’t sit right with me. There were all kinds of reasons—but can you guess how many pages I ended up not using?

The answer is... over 600 pages! 😱 That’s about how much I usually draw for a single one-shot.

It would be amazing if I could create something great on the first try, but since I’m no genius, my process is more like building a sandcastle: draw, revise, discard, rewrite, and repeat—layer by layer, I shape the story. 🥹

One of the biggest blessings of making manga in Japan might be having a partner who truly listens when you’re honest about your doubts and struggles, and offers their support with sincerity.

Today’s a Little Whiny One…🥹

I’m struggling because I can’t come up with a new storyboard…It’s really hard to give shape to a brand new story.

I honestly think that most of a manga artist’s struggles come from this part—building the story itself.

Of course, the joy of it all is a given! But still—ugh, it’s tough…

And with a deadline looming, there’s no escape. I feel cornered, and honestly, I’m close to tears. 😢
