as for my favourite episode! my choices, they skew modern, i'm sorry. oo, it gets hard because there are so many good flanders episodes and the man has a string of actual continuity to him so they all have to be watched to understand and sympathise the whole picture. But I'd have to say 34x13 "The Many Saints of Springfield". i think there have been other episode i've maybe felt more strongly about but "The Many Saints of Springfield"... it's just a good time all the way through. and it's such a out there concept but it just works so so well - who would have thought ned having a hand in the mob and being the don's favourite would be such a good episode? and why did he do that. why did they do that.

family wise, the title goes straight to 31x09 "Todd, Todd, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?". i have so so much to say about it, about what it means for todd. it's sooo ... god, so much to say, so many thoughts. but it's so hard to word them for this post !!! grahh !!! tldr; this little boy's faith is Not going to be the same after that. good almighty lord. and also ned is so horrible fucking LOL, its sooo good. i'm going to kill him, he's so bad. its so good.

i've been rattling around a fic? or, i guess a concept where, during homer and ned's night of drinking in "Todd, Todd, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?", todd (with bart) goes out into the night to see the abandoned praiseland. and there, under the cracked and overgrown statue of maude, they talk about religion and their complicated feelings for their fathers. if only i knew how to write this fsdjkfh

mtf rod Flanders headcanons (i think)

so as some simpsons enjoyers have picked up on, rod Flanders from the Flanders clan is lowkey very trans-coded, moreso talking about how he yearns to wear feminine clothing (“im jealous of girls cause they get to wear dresses!” that thing in tapped out etc). and like. that’s been on my brain forever. here’s my collection of rod mtf headcanons

tbh i think rod would change her name to ronnie. idk i feel like it fits and im gonna call her ronnie for the rest of this 4 shits.

i think figuring out that she was mtf was a huuuge struggle. i think she just one day got hit in the face by being perceived as male and it just made her sick when referred to that way. but she didn’t realize it was the male perceiving that was making her feel that way. she probably thought she had a demon or something.

the first person she told all this to was lisa. she was afraid to talk to her dad or brother or stepmom because she didn’t know what was going on and didn’t want their perception of her to be ruined. and lisa didn’t really seem like the type to judge, she wasn’t even christian. and lisa did not judge. she had a psychology session and she wrote down the triggers and brought up Transgender ™. and ronnie was a little scared, naturally. but it felt kinda right to her.

she just kinda experimented with expression a little. put on very light makeup her mom used to wear. walked differently. tried to manipulate her hair to be longer. it felt comfortable. she liked it. 

the next person she told about it was the reverend in a confessional. he basically told her that he likes to think god looks the other way, but her dad believes otherwise. and that scared her. 

i don’t think she’d even plan to come out to her dad. i think that how it’d work is that she’d come out to todd who would tell ned just out of fear that she’s succumbing to the devil. and that’s probably how ned would react. he might try to be nice about it because he loves his kid but he’s still under the impression it’s a sin. i think that at first he’d just consider it a phase and hope it dies down. but then after it dosen’t he just starts introducing her as Ronnie and she/her, trying to hide that she was ever a boy to begin with. so….win? 

I like to think that after the above happens todds just like ronnies biggest supporter. “oh hey is that your brother over there?” “NO 🗣️🗣️🗣️” 

i don’t think ronnie would give up on god. she’d still be a believer and that god loves her. just bc she’s trans dosen’t mean the lord dosen’t still love her.

she’d quite like dresses. they’re cozy and she can move around comfortably and she likes how she looks in them. she’ll probably mostly buy her own.

HM… MIXED FEELINGS. If I’m being honest I’ve rewatched that episode and Praiseland very very few times compared to other Ned episodes, (Maude’s death makes me a little sad…) so I don’t have a completely set opinion on it! I know about what happened with Maude’s VA quitting because of the pay and it intrigues me, I haven’t looked into the details of it and how she eventually came back to continue voicing Maude in past bits.

Overall, the episode isn’t! Perfect! Maude’s death was of course quick and made to be joked about, and the whole dating thing felt very rushed, but most complaints I can think of are just factors of the circumstances and the conclusion of the episode. Though I’m a over the top Flanders family fan I do think Maude’s death is pretty funny and I really don’t have much against it, I get it! It is sad The Simpsons don’t give Maude much of her own character because I would’ve liked to see more about her in the episode! There’s no Maude episodes and it’s really just Ned greiving.

I REALLY enjoy the ending. I do think it makes up for the other parts of the episode. Ned going to church last minute and walking in during the song is a really amazing and heartfelt scene to me, one of my favorite Ned scenes. Him meeting Rachel and deciding he wasn’t ready to move on yet, but still getting back on his feet, was a perfect ending to the episode. It explains why they added that dating bit, which was from Homer convincing Ned anyway. (I’M NOT AT ALL AGAINST NED DATING BTW LMAO. It was just really shortly after Maude died. I’m a Nedna stan, always!)

Side note but I do think Rachel is pretty cool and it’s a shame she was only made and used for the sake of Ned’s lovelife, I actually really would like to see more of her! (I assume she might have a celebrity voice actor which is totally another reason she only appears twice)

OK. RANT OVER. Sorry to the question asker you probably weren’t looking for this big of a rant BUT UHMMMM! I like ned flanders

i don't know if he already has an explained backstory but i thought it would be interesting if Ned had a childhood like Orel Puppington from Moral Orel, and that he broke the cycle of generational trauma like Orel's flashforward in the last episode

He does have a childhood backstory actually, yeah! I’ve never watched Moral Orel (though I want to at some point) but from that description, kind of! It’s less generational trauma and more him just not fitting the mold that his parents tried to fit him in though. His parents are beatniks and he has a ongoing rocky relationship with em’, Ned has admitted to hating his parents in his original backstory episode but they overall try to get along. His parents have been seen around springfield and babysitting Rod and Todd and such. They actually have a comic about Ned and his parents! It’s a very good read and a sweet ending.
