⦿ the aftermath ⦿ ‣ During the week Liam's parents are out of town, he stays in Theo's apartment. Theo finds out how bad he's gotten without anybody knowing.

However, the amount of care Theo puts towards helping him feel better makes it a little less scary. Even when the unknown disease starts making its way through all the werewolves in Beacon Hills.

Especially when they convince a certain chimera to join their side, or so they think. Unfortunately for them, Theo always has a plan.

⦿ "I love you. Don't come find me." ⦿ ‣ Waking without Theo next to him doesn't concern Liam much, it's his boyfriend's day to meet with Scott. The worry hits when no one, even Scott, hasn't seen him. It only gets worse when Liam gets an envelope with his name on it, and a note.

⦾ drowning in a winter wonderland ⦾ ‣ With months of peace under their belt, the McCall pack goes North for a pack winter vacation. That tranquil foundation of their trip breaks when hunters attack during a day on the lake. It's not the only thing that breaks though; ice does too.

⦿ burn me out ⦿ ‣ Getting back into the feel of high school is a tall order for Liam, who has more than enough on his plate, on top of dealing with most of his classmates previously trying to kill him. Luckily, Theo has a few ideas.

⦿ try, try, try ⦿ ‣ Post-canon, college Thiam ‣ An expansion of fourth time's the charm from Whumptober 2023. Liam hasn't seen Theo in four years since the war. What happens when he finally finds out the truth of what's been happening in his new town?

⦾ The What Ifs of Falling In Love ⦾ ‣ Mostly canon-compliant, a Thiam version of Teen Wolf S5-6 ‣ Liam Dunbar is a beta with anger issues and can’t see a future without them. Theo Raeken came back to Beacon Hills for a pack, and isn’t leaving without one. Now what better way to do that than to find a way to their betas heart and fight his demons back?

⦿ wreck the hunt, rebuild the hunter ⦿ ‣ Hunter!Liam AU, alternate S6, enemies to fuckbuddies to lovers ‣ An expansion of run and hide from Whumptober. When Monroe and Gerard move to wipe the supernaturals right out of Beacon Hills, an official McCall-pack-member Theo meets a certain hunter who instead of falling off a roof and getting bitten, is now trying to kill him.

The way Teen Wolf (and subsequently the McCall Pack and Parents) treated Theo is probably one of the most interesting dynamics in the whole show.

And by interesting, I meant downright hypocritical .

Because sure, we can’t kill or plot against people, but hey! Let’s also have the main characters constantly work with adults who did in fact hurt them, torture them, and even murdered them! Let’s have other murderers running around teenagers without problem. Or have them date almost murderers and actual murderers. We’ll even hand out second chances and thirds like candy on halloween!

Allison. Chris Argent. Peter Hale. Aiden. Ethan. Deucalion. Hell, half the McCall Pack at this point.

But hey, we draw the line at Theo fucking Raeken.

Let’s start with Theo’s vague childhood and the events leading up to his the Dread Doctors taking him. The story itself is so nonsensical that it’s a wonder we never actually got the whole true story.

1. We know there must’ve been something wrong with Theo’s health from a young age. No child would believe his sister wanted to give him her heart unless that child has a potentially soon-to-be fatal heart disease.

2. Teen Theo is very different from baby Theo. Enough that Stiles was able to guess that teen Theo wanted something from them. If baby Theo was a burgeoning psychopath or sociopath, Stiles would have mentioned it. He didn’t; baby Theo must’ve been a normal little kid before the Dread Doctors got their hands on him

3. Tara’s death. This happened around 4th grade. We know he was nine. Valack insisted that he was ten, but Theo himself admitted the Doctors were already manipulating him by the age of nine. We don’t know how long it was before that they started whispering in his ears.

4. Theo’s parents must’ve been quite absent. All the other Chimaera subjects were kids that were taken because no one would notice them gone for long periods of time. A nine year old going missing is a lot more obvious than a bunch of 15-16 year olds. So they must’ve manipulated him either during sleep time, or after school. Either way: where the heck were his parents?

Theo might be a good liar, but I don’t believe for a second he killed Tara because he wanted to. Or of his own free will. The Dread Doctors got into his head and manipulated him into doing it by focusing on his desperation to live.

A nine year old boy is abducted and tortured into a living science lab experiment. He spends the next 8 or so years being their only success. He’s exposed constantly to death and blood and torture. He’s raised to be the perfect spy, and was probably tortured into mastering his tells. Remember: at 17, Theo had more control over his shift and powers than even most adults. He was able to hide and manipulate his chemosignals. He was able to keep his heart steady despite lying constantly. Body language, eyes, tone—all manipulated to such a degree even Malia was fooled.

That is not a talent that comes naturally. That is not something a teenager should be able to do, not to mention do it so well he was able to manipulate so many shifters at once. That is something you could be trained and tortured into doing, though.

So you get a traumatized, brainwashed baby spy with murderous tendencies, who is self-serving to a detriment because he spent nearly a decade under the thumb of murderous scientists who could kill him anytime they deemed him no longer necessary. I’m not surprised Theo ended up the way he did: no one lives true that without accepting the need to do the worst possible things to survive.

What I don’t understand is what makes Theo so different from all the other antagonists/anti-heroes/villains that the McCall Pack considers him irredeemable and thus deserving of death.

They forgave Allison for Boyd and Erica and Isaac.

They accepted Chris Argent and his history of spilling innocent blood.

They let Peter live and worked with him after his return in S2. After S4.

Meredith Blake literally got people killed via a deadpool.

Deucalion was healed and allowed to go free despite the carnage he wrought in his revenge.

Nobody hunted down Gerard after needing his help in S5. Or made sure he was indisposed.

Aiden and Ethan were allowed to walk free.

So why Theo?

Kira sent him to hell. The entire McCall Pack stood there and did nothing while he was killed, even when he begged for help. Malia constantly threatens to kill him without remorse or care. Scott told Liam to put him back underground, essentially killing him again.

Oh, but this is the same pack that hands out second chances like candy! Who refuse to take lives or even consider it a possibility. Who works with murderers and killers without issue as long as it’s needed, with far less protest than they did Theo in 6A.

Or is because Theo’s the only one that succeeded, and they can’t accept they lost? This miraculous, spunky, rag-tag pack of teenagers who somehow survived against all odds…lost miserably to a teenager their age.

Even the adults showed more disgust and disdain towards Theo than, again, the literal adults who’ve hurt and killed kids before. You never saw Stilinski threaten anyone the way he did Theo, did you?

Or is it because unlike everyone else, Theo couldn’t really be manipulated? No loved ones or best friends or exes and lovers; no parents or sister alive to be used against him. He had no bridges to be burned, was already operating like a dead man walking.

I just find it funny that Theo had to stay dead and gone, but Peter was placed in Eichen and Gerard in a care home.

Oh how I love making moodboards for my fics instead of writing them

boyd, theo, and grief

I know I'm not the first to suggest this, but I like the headcanon that Alicia was taken by the Dread Doctors the last time they were in town--the same time that they took Theo. 

The timing works, since Boyd's voice in the flashback could conceivably be a fourth grader's. It would also explain how Alicia disappeared so suddenly, around "plenty of other people" (3x06), since the Doctors could have grabbed her unnoticed, and why Boyd can't remember when he saw her last, since the Doctors can mess with people's memories.

It also fits so nicely with the visual parallels between their narratives about their dead sisters. Boyd's attempt to kill himself at the Glen Capri and Theo's dreamscape in bardo can be taken as complementary narratives that can inform each other.

Alicia disappeared at the ice rink, and Tara died in the freezing water, details which inform their appearance similarly. Alicia stares up at Boyd from the ice and calls out to him. Later, Tara stares up at and calls out to Theo from the cold water, and will eventually climb out of the ground soaking wet to grab him. 

Both boys are haunted by their sisters' deaths. Boyd now works at the ice rink: with every shift, he returns to the site of her disappearance.

Soon after he's poisoned with wolfsbane, he breaks through the glass of the vending machine to get what he paid for, an action that foreshadows his attempt to get Alicia out of the ice: if he could just break through, he'd find her. 

But what really haunts Boyd is the mystery of how she disappeared. He has no idea how she disappeared, or even when he saw her last. He remembers himself asking is it my fault? He repeats the question to himself before he trudges barefoot to the tub—the same way Theo will later wander barefoot through the hospital.

It's striking to me that Boyd chooses to drown himself when, only a few episodes later, Scott, Stiles, and Allison will all drown themselves to access bardo. For them, bardo is about revelations: that the nemeton is responsible for Scott's tattoo; that it was close by when he was bitten; that Allison was there that night. It gives Scott a greater understanding of one of the most traumatic nights of his life. I don't think the writers intended this but it fits so well that Boyd is, on some level, attempting to access bardo by similarly drowning himself. His attempted death is definitely about his sense of guilt, but I think it's also about Alicia's death as a question Boyd would do anything to answer. 

Boyd wants to process his sister's death, but without the answers to his questions, it's impossible. It makes it all the more tragic that he dies the next episode with no answers about his sister, not even an answer to what happens to a werewolf during a lunar eclipse. In a universe where he survived, it would have been so interesting for season 5 to give him an explanation for Alicia's disappearance and, finally, an answer to his question: it wasn't his fault.

If Boyd is desperate to find Alicia, Theo is eager to keep her locked away, but he's similarly haunted. Like Boyd at the ice rink, Theo goes to the bridge where Tara died, smelling like grief (5x02).

Later, when Kira sends him to bardo, he's faced with his sister. Theo's dreamscape, like Scott's (4x08), is shaped by his own subconscious; Tara is there because subconsciously, Theo has decided to see her there, even though his conscious reaction is to run away from her.

I've argued before that Theo's dreamscape is—though informed by guilt—ultimately about grief. He's attempted to lock it away so tightly that his journey in bardo is simply to face it: that it's there, that he can't escape it, that it hurts. 

Theo does face it, though. One of the things I like about Theo's return is that his time in bardo doesn't magically change who he is. He comes back still angry, cynical, and defensive—but now openly grieving, which will prove crucial to his eventual changes.

It makes me think again about a version of the show where Boyd lived and went on a journey to bardo himself: what he might have seen there, and what he might have been like afterwards.

Welcome to the Thiam Big Bang 2025!

Back by popular demand, it’s time for another Big Bang Event! This time, we’ve got a brand new theme for you all to sink your claws into.

The Theme

'The Big Bad Wolf' is the theme of this year’s Big Bang. In your fic, we would love to see Thiam partnering up against some kind of enemy. Is it the return of Monroe and her hunters? A new supernatural threat? An alternate universe with its own monsters? There are no wrong answers here! 

How does this work?

Writers will create an original Theo/Liam work. In a few weeks, writers will submit summaries of their works. During this time, there will be a claiming phase for artists to claim a writer’s summary that they want to create art for. You will then work with your writer/artist/beta to create amazing works for the Big Bang!

What are the rules?

There is a minimum word limit of 10k. There is no maximum word count. We also ask that you produce a finished work by the final deadline.

Artists, create to your heart’s content using whatever medium you prefer. These include, but are not limited to: music playlists, video edits, aesthetics, moodboards, drawings, etc. The world is your oyster!

The main pairing must exclusively be Thiam - poly relationships including Thiam are not allowed. Side pairings/relationships are still allowed, but Thiam must be the central focus and endgame pairing of your fic.

Your fic can be any genre; canon, AU, etc. The floor is yours to write what you want, as long as it includes a Big Bad Wolf! Take your prompt and run wild with it!

Your entry for the Big Bang cannot be a work that is already published in any form. This must be a creation from scratch! Sequels to existing fics are allowed, as long as it has not already been published.

During the Big Bang, works must not be made public before final posting dates. You can of course talk with your friends, beta, and artist, for plot points, ideas, etc. Please also keep details about your story a secret during the course of the event. This keeps it a fun surprise for everyone when works are posted!

Work together with your partners as you create! This is meant to be a collaborative effort. Artists and authors, please communicate with each other about your vision. The two of you need to work together for this event to be a success for all!

If an author and artist wish to pair up on their own and create, please do so! The more participants, the merrier! Please make sure that both parties fill out the sign-up sheet for the sake of check-ins.

Betas:

Betas are not required for this event. If you have your own beta, great! Betas usually help with grammar and spelling but can also help with ideas, plot holes, etc. Beta readers, please sign up using the form provided. It will be the same form used for artists and authors.

Cheerleaders:

If you are also interested in being a cheerleader for our writers/artists, please jump right in! Cheerleaders offer encouragement, support, can act as a sounding board for ideas, or just generally chat about Thiam and/or the Big Bang event. You can be a cheerleader and a beta, a cheerleader for an artist, author or both. It will be the same form used for artists and authors.

A friend and I already have an idea for a fanfic/fanart collaboration - do we still have to go through the traditional sign up?

The Big Bang is the perfect occasion to do a collab! The sign-up form is adapted to these situations. So, yes, we do ask that you fill out the sign up form and state that you are partnered already. Artists will not receive the prompt bank in this case. You will still need to take part in check ins so that we know you are on track for posting dates.

Can I sign up with a co-author?

Yes! When filling out the sign up form, please state your co-author and ask them to submit a form as well.

Can I sign up as a writer AND an artist?

Yes you can! But please make sure you can fulfill the responsibilities you’re signing up for. Please ensure you have time to complete your fic and create art for the writer you are paired up with.

What happens if there is an uneven number of writers and artists?

We will have an option for artists/authors to do a second pairing, and advertise for pinch hitters if needed. We will do everything we can to ensure that every prompt has both a writer and an artist so everyone can participate in this event.

Checkpoints:

We will send out reminder emails during each checkpoint. These will be gentle reminders, used for encouragement and motivation, to check in with you in your writing process. The first mandatory checkpoint will be June 29th, where we will ask for confirmation that writer and artist partners have been in contact with each other. The second mandatory checkpoint will be July 27th, and the final mandatory checkpoint will be August 30th, where writers and artists must confirm you are on track for finishing your work by the posting week.

What if I need to drop out?

We know real life can get in the way sometimes. If you need to drop out, can’t meet the deadline, etc. please contact the mods ASAP (preferably no later than the second mandatory check-in on July 27th so we can find a pinch hitter). 

Posting/ Submissions:

There will be a Thiam Big Bang collection on AO3 to post all of your works. If you don’t have an AO3 account, you can sign up here. Please be aware that it might take several weeks to get an invitation to create an account. If you are a member of the OTL Discord, post and ask members if they have any invitations they can share with you as many of us have multiple we can give out. Submissions are posted on AO3, and it must be a masterpost of the fic and art. The collection will be unrevealed and moderated to ensure that posts are not revealed before the final due date.
