i have something amazing to share

a bit ago i got a comment on my fic, for roses, too, asking if the commenter could bind it in a for real book. of course i freaked out and said yes, and now i have the result in my greedy little paws and it's absolutely amazing.

thank you thank you thank you to @reachthebluedot for creating this. i'm so honored and so touched that my little ol story could inspire such an amazing piece of fan work. this thing feels SO nice to hold, it's so well made and so special. i've always thought physical copies of fic were an interesting little fandom curio to have, but i never actually had any of them. until now, and it's my own thing! i wrote this shit! i'm over the moon :)

and even better, this was done as part of @renegadepublishing's FanFiction Writer Appreciation Day, today! there's a lot of cool stuff rbed there, i definitely recommend checking them out.

2nd Book Bound - For Roses, Too - sindirimba - Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day

Happy Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day folks!

For FFWAD, Renegade Bindery runs an event where we bind copies of fics for their authors, and I thought "I'm new here, let's do it". So it is 21st August 2023 so it's time to post about my contribution to the @renegadepublishing FFWAD event. This is, full disclosure, the second binding project I have completed, though not the second one I started XD (WIPs? What are they?).

I made @sindirimba a copy of their lovely fic, For Roses, Too. Working with her on this was just such a pleasure and I'm so glad she is enjoying having it in her hands <3

Some Info Words: 112,787 Pages: 515 (appendix included), 498 (fic only) Binding: folio, square backed Bradel, full cloth Book cloth: blue buckram Decoration: heat reactive foil, traced graphics (I cannot take credit for the design elements, or the fonts) Endbands: Single core, front bead endbands, red and yellow friendship bracelet floss around a twine core.

Notes: This is a significant improvement over the first binding I did (Pride and Prejudice). Both of the main issues were improved upon. The book can fully open and close, and the end papers are much less wrinkled :) (The copy I am making for my own shelf is still an unglued text block. If I don't get it finished before the fall semester starts, then it is likely to stay that way until I graduate in December. Unless of course, the university cancels one of my classes, because they still haven't assigned an instructor to it. We are two weeks out folks, and the instructor is still listed as "Staff".)

Room for improvement: The construction of the case was messed up, and I did not leave enough of a hinge. So the book does not sit closed properly. An additional, less pressing issue, is that the endpapers wrinkled during casing in.

First Book Bound - Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen

First completed bookbinding project. By the time I finished with the ink stenciling for the peacock decoration, and the title and author, my hand was cramping. Over all I was happy with it as a first attempt! Lots to work on still, but that's the fun of picking up a new hobby :)
