What's your opinion on the Angra NPP (Angra I, Angra II and the future Angra III)?
Don’t know much about it! A quick google has revealed to me that it is in Brazil. Brazil is a wonderful country and I’m glad to see they are actively expanding and investing in nuclear power. Nuclear energy is the future and Brazil will almost certainly benefit from its early adoption and continued development.
Strange reactor configuration, though. Would have thought Brazil would have used the Russian VVER, but I suppose the Cold War was still going on when they were constructed. I am always minorly concerned when there is a nuclear plant on the ocean but last time I checked tsunamis are not common in Brazil.
I hope Brazil continues to expand its nuclear power capacity. Such a large country could reap great benefits, especially by using cheap nuclear power to fuel mining and smelting operations in the Central and Eastern parts of the country. Cheers for the ask anon.

Me again, a little random, but what do you think of Cherenkov radiation?
It is wicked. Radiation is super weird and cool to me because it has so many crazy insane effects on all sorts of things you would never expect. Would love to talk to a nuclear physicist about it someday.

I’ve been searching for information about Akimov for God knows how long… and I believe I only know what has already been on the internet. I learned so much about most of the staff at this point, but this man— he is a total mystery. Literally nothing substantial, he’s a ghost. It’s like this weird obsession, I don’t know why but I’m just so curious about his life, family situation with the aftermath of his passing, and his children. I don’t want to sound rude because it’s like I’m prying. But there is absolutely nothing about him and I’m just so damn curious
So I hear- I think I’ve had a few asks about him before. Unfortunately, I’m hardly a biographical source for people involved in Chernobyl. I imagine his family were not very eager to share details of his life considering he was killed by the accident and then subsequently given a lot of the blame for it. Who knows. I wish you luck in your search for information!

what's your opinion on nuclear energy as a whole? is it worth the risks? are those risks really as bad as people make them out to be?
Hi Anon,
Despite the fact that I run a blog about the consequences of the worst nuclear disaster in history, I am firmly in favor of nuclear power.
Nuclear power is one of the most powerful technological breakthroughs humanity has ever made, and the fact that we have squandered and misused it is one of our foremost failings as a species. Nuclear power is clean, safe, and quite cheap when built to scale. Anyone who is opposed to nuclear power on an environmental or safety basis is operating with limited facts. While I will concede that those are two very important factors to consider when discussing nuclear power and they cannot be easily dismissed, the issues they present can be overcome with current means.
This is an issue I am quite passionate about. Nuclear power has become increasingly controversial as a direct result of nuclear disasters like Chernobyl. I can’t really blame people for being skeptical, but nuclear power is an enormous asset to humanity and that fact is often completely lost in discussions on nuclear power. I shan’t go into more detail in this post, but if you are interested in further discussion, my DMs are open.

Salutations!
Do you have a favourite power plant?
Gosh I can’t say I know that many power plants, butI’ve always been partial to the Kursk NPP in Russia.
Tumblr media
The ChNPP is so poorly taken care of (for obvious reasons, I can’t really blame the caretakers) and KNPP shows us what Chernobyl looked like in its heyday, and what it might look like today if the accident had not occurred.

someone semi recently posted a list or something with files of books about chernobyl. reminded me of you, i think you might enjoy it
That sounds very interesting! Could you provide me with the link somehow? I ought to do something similar, I have quite a few wacky resources accessible via the internet.

Yes but at least she got this funny photo. That poor couple’s wedding photos are used in “DISTURBING LAST DAYS OF PRIPYAT” compilations and finger-wagging documentaries, which is perhaps the lamest way to be immortalized.
feeling really bad for the couple that got married in pripyat the day the explosion at chernobyl happened
