Swim Meet

I mentioned the idea of modern Cullen being a swimmer in college to @feralise, that’s how he got his scar, and she ran with it with this amazing artwork and head canon of Swimmer!Cullen in Speedos. And I found myself inspired to write something.  I don’t know much about competitive swimming so forgive any errors.

Warning: Describes Cullen’s lip injury, blood mention, nothing too gross

Cullen cut his arms through the water and swam upward until his face broke the surface, only to hear wild cheers from his teammates. He climbed out of the pool and grinned from ear to ear, despite the chlorinated water trickling into his mouth.

“Excellent form, Rutherford,” his coach boomed as he handed him a towel. “After Shelby, I want you to try the big one.”

“Reverse two and a half? I can do that with my eyes closed.” Cullen scoffed, wiping his face with the towel.

“Reverse three and a half.” Coach replied, crossing his arms.

Just for a moment, Cullen’s smug grin left his face. He had never attempted three and a half somersaults on a reverse dive before. But he was training for the Olympic tryouts, and he would have to push himself to his limits to prove himself worthy. He was already a shoo-in for 200 and 400 meter freestyles, having matched or beaten many of the best times on record, now he just had to nail these dives to cement his place on the next US team.

The easy smile returned. “No problem, coach.”

A voice cut through the din of the gymnasium, and Cullen’s eyes darted around, trying to locate the source. He would know that sound anywhere.

It was Fiona.

Cullen ran. His bare feet dug into the gravel, rocks digging into flesh, blood streaming from fresh cuts and gashes in his soles. He scrambled uphill, using his hands as much as his feet to pull himself along. The thought of falling made him nauseous. His breath was ragged, lungs tight, the taste of blood in the back of his mouth. He was being chased, yes, but he was also chasing.

She ran in front of him, her feet steady on the ground, arms and legs pumping evenly. He didn’t know who she was, but he knew it was vital that he catch her. He couldn’t even tell what she looked like; the sun was rising, a burning halo around her. Cullen ground his teeth together, stumbling and nearly falling to his knees. Behind him he heard the steady thump of boots, the clank of armor. An entire platoon was following him. He didn’t need to look back to see the sword and flames emblazoned on their armor.

Then, suddenly, she stopped. She turned toward him. He couldn’t stop so easily, and fell before her. His neck felt weak as he tried to raise his head, tried to look at her face. She eclipsed the sun, making his eyes water. She reached down toward him, then shook her head. Turning, she stepped away from him. His mouth opened wide in horror as he realized they had come to the edge of a cliff. He reached for her, trying to scream a name he couldn’t quite remember. She looked back, once, and jumped.

Yes the Mass Effect Andromeda video is cool, but they failed to address some key questions, such as:

- how far can I drive the mako in a straight line before it is perpendicular to the ground

- what is the tallest thing I can drive the mako off of

- can I still park the mako on top of buildings

- can the mako parkour
